January 2, 200916 yr The Bearcats lost the game more than Virginia Tech won it. Jake, how well did you do with your photography?
January 2, 200916 yr That was ugly. They had their opportunities. Though the pre-game show had some nice cincy-related profiles. I liked the comment that Mt. Adams should be changed to Mt. Kelly.
January 2, 200916 yr My photos all sucked. When VT missed that short field goal in the first quarter, there was a divine wind that came out of nowhere and blew it wide right. But that was the last of their good luck. Plus, people were pissed off out in the parking lot and back at the hotels. UC's crowed far outnumbered VT's crowd, maybe 3X as large.
January 3, 200916 yr It hurt my soul to watch Tony Pike and the defense try to tackle (esp. trying to get #8). Arrgh!
January 4, 200916 yr Just got back into town, and it was a terrible time for the Cats to play their worst game. They definitely did not cash in on their opportunities. As mentioned at least the fans turned out - way more UC than VT fans. Great to see them out and about in Miami, South Beach, Lauderdale, and especially at the game. Maybe the Bucks can win Monday.
January 4, 200916 yr Pike didn't look like he was ready for the big stage, the defense looked flat, and VT had been there done that with 3 previous Orange Bowl losses. If you don't step up and play BCS football, you lose. VT made fewer mistakes and like cincyimages said, UC lost the game more than VT won the game.
January 4, 200916 yr I'm sorry Bearcats, but that was one sloppy ass football game. You didn't deserve to be there before a few other more deserving teams (cough, cough, Boise State, TCU). It's not so much that Virginia Tech played good football, it's just Cincinnati looked like absolute trash. And just to clear things up, I was actually rooting for Cincinnati. They're my fourth favorite school in Ohio. As long as they're not playing OU, BG, or Toledo, they've got my support. And I just hate the state of Virginia and almost everything associated with it. Virginia Tech deserves no credit either. Wow, you clowns ranked 21st, and a got a BCS bid before teams ranked 9th and 11th. You beat a team that looked like it couldn't beat Florida International. The ACC and Big East have turned into complete clown conferences, and not good clowns. They're more like the clowns who show up to the birthday party a half hour late after tying one off at the local teachers bar, and then sexually harass the kids. The Orange Bowl should have been TCU v. Boise State. That was an infinitely better game and they were more deserving of the BCS bids in the first place. They were both higher ranked teams than Virginia Tech or Cincinnati. Screw the BCS. It created yet another sh!tty bowl game that wasted everyone's time. If Americans wanted to waste time watching football, they'd just watch Ohio State attempt to play football against USC. After seeing TCU and Boise State get screwed out of the BCS bids they deserved, watching Virginia Tech and Cincinnati have a pizza party that was unbearable to watch, AND watching Utah manhandle Alabama, I'm now boycotting all BCS games. The system just isn't fair (we always knew that, but this year proves it in spades). Hell, it doesn't even make for interesting football anymore... Watching that Orange Bowl was less exciting than watching Britney Spears attempt to make a comeback. Trash, just utter trash, Cincinnati. You embarrassed your school, the state of Ohio, and the entire Big East conference. May God have mercy on your soul. First of all, your antics are so tired, C-Dawg, I'm not even sure I want to respond, but I will. The Big East, in particular West Virginia, has beat many of the power conference teams recently. Have you forgotten WVU's trouncing of Oklahoma just a few years ago? The ACC has also had very solid teams in Virginia Tech (remember them with Michael Vick?) and Boston College, not to mention the fucking Miami Hurricanes... And if these schools like TCU and Boise State want to get in to BCS games, then join a fucking BCS conference and stop bitching. If they can't do that, then they should schedule Texas, USC, and Florida, and see if they're still undefeated. If Ohio State played Boise State's schedule, they'd probably be undefeated too, but you talk so much shit about the Buckeyes and how bad they are because they actually play GOOD TEAMS. I'm sorry, but beating Nevada and Idaho is not going to get you a BCS birth. They played one ranked team (#17 Oregon) and they barely squeeked by, that is hardly BCS worthy. And as far as embarassing Ohio and Cincinnati and all the other shit you like to spew on your incredibly trite rants, I for one am proud of the Bearcats, and I'm sure the University is thankful for the national audience to advertise to, and the large sum of money given to the University...
January 4, 200916 yr They beat #20 #23 and #25 lost to #4 and lost to #19 to me that 's a tough schedule. My gawd i can't believe your rants.
January 4, 200916 yr Your rants are definitely a little dramatic - not sure of your motivation as only you know that. The Big East won their past 3 BCS games (since the new schools were added) so I do not think one loss is a reason to suddenly dismiss the conference. Most importantly, based on the conference performance, including their bowl games the conference has been reaffirmed a BCS member through 2013 so you have a lot of boycotting to do. This will actually give the programs like UC more time to establish themselves. I also think the fact that the Big East is by far the best basketball conference probably helps them. Oklahoma also slaughtered TCU (lost by 25) and Texas Tech (lost by 42) by the way (I think UC lost by 26 by comparison), among many others.
January 4, 200916 yr Your rants are definitely a little dramatic - not sure of your motivation as only you know that. Be gentle, he's under a lot of stress lately! 1) He went to OU 2) He doesn't have a job 3) He lives with his parents
January 5, 200916 yr The ACC has also had very solid teams in Virginia Tech (remember them with Michael Vick?) and Boston College, not to mention the f$&king Miami Hurricanes... And if these schools like TCU and Boise State want to get in to BCS games, then join a f$&king BCS conference and stop bitching. If they can't do that, then they should schedule Texas, USC, and Florida, and see if they're still undefeated. If Ohio State played Boise State's schedule, they'd probably be undefeated too, but you talk so much sh!t about the Buckeyes and how bad they are because they actually play GOOD TEAMS. I'm sorry, but beating Nevada and Idaho is not going to get you a BCS birth. They played one ranked team (#17 Oregon) and they barely squeeked by, that is hardly BCS worthy. Cincinnati never beat anybody ranked higher than 20th. Face it, you killed your own argument. The Big East is a joke now, get real. So is the ACC (though obviously much more competitive than Big East). Miami?! Ha! So a team looking good five years ago is related to the trash they play today? Key word you used there was "had" as in "HAS-BEEN." Share the dank. Your grow house should be ready to harvest. And Michael Vick is a felon. And I'll hold back on any more OSU sh!t-talking until I see the Texas game...in terms of USC, no one in the Big Ten, Big East, and ACC can hang with them, so there's no point in saying, "they didn't schedule USC." USC can run over anybody. If Jesus were a football coach, he'd be Pete Carroll. I for one am proud of the Bearcats, and I'm sure the University is thankful for the national audience to advertise to, and the large sum of money given to the University... Then may God have mercy on your school. You ripped off more deserving schools and you ripped off America. There's no defense for that game. Garbage in, garbage out. If you like trash, go ahead and defend it. The rest of America doesn't agree. It's not a good idea to be "proud" of getting your ass kicked. That's like McCain saying he's proud of picking Sarah Palin. Rant over in two. Ironically enough, I don't go to UC but rather USC. So, I agree with your assessment of my school (I'm confident we could beat anyone right now...), but I think you are mistaken about UC. Again, why don't these small schools schedule good teams so at the end of the season they can say "we played Texas, Florida, etc. and we're STILL undefeated". that would make a stronger case for them than just going undefeated in the WAC. And your Jesus and weed jokes/references just make you sound like such a tool, btw. ;-)
January 5, 200916 yr This is the beginning of a new era for UC football, not the end. Future years look great as the recruiting classes have been improving immensely for the past 5 straight years. We're getting 4 Star recruits to sign with UC now...something that has never happened before. We also have a couple of 5 Star/Blue Chip recruits considering UC for future years. Couple this with UC's spot in a BCS conference and improved facilities and you have yourself a bright looking future. I'm certainly proud to be a Bearcat football fan.
January 5, 200916 yr ^ Agreed - having grown up watching UC football this is the brightest I have seen the school's prospects for football. By the simple fact of being in a BCS conference they are now getting a shot at a different caliber of athlete. Next year will likely be a rebuilding year, but in two years they should challenge for the conference title again. This is not to say I am not disappointed by the egg they laid in Miami, but I do think they are building for the future. There is no reason they cannot continue to improve as a program and build tradition.
January 5, 200916 yr Well, I do think it's telling that the state of Ohio has two teams in BCS bowls in one year (no other state can say that). Granted, they both could lose but whatever, they're in it. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 6, 200916 yr well here we are after the fact. i watched uc-vt until halftime. they looked ok, what happned? nothing on 'o' i see that is for sure. the game was kind of dull i guess (i dont get that, i like close games), but it must have been way duller than i thought, apparently it was the lowest rated bcs game in history: http://sportsmediablog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/01/all-time-bcs-low-cant-we-just.html so now after the osu loss, the usual ohio big bowl game jinx remains in effect. ugh. ohioans just fizzle out when we go down to warm weather in the wintertime.
January 6, 200916 yr Well, it's time to bring those precious Pac-10/SEC-hometeam bowls up north! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 6, 200916 yr Well, it's time to bring those precious Pac-10/SEC-hometeam bowls up north! ^Actually, I completely agree with that! They'll be out of their element. I'd like to see how they handle snow... oh hellz yeah -- badda bing, badda bang -- now we're talking. great idea. i'd love it. unfortunately too great of an idea so it'll never happen. :| wait, let's maybe a throw a mac league champion under the bus to try one out someday? what the hell no big deal. if it doesnt work out no one will notice. anybody wanna play a mac team in a bowl game outdoors in january at invesco field in denver? say yes you wimps! :wink2:
January 15, 200916 yr WR likely leaving USC for UC http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=blog04&plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&plckPostId=Blog%3ada6629a0-7bd0-4605-8869-25a20cb5adabPost%3ae80bae04-c0b1-4c9f-b603-f0561979c657&s I just talked to Vidal Hazelton and he said he has not officially committed to UC yet, but it sounds as if he's leaning strongly in that directon. Hazelton said he's leaving USC to be closer to his grandfather, who lives in Georgia and has been recently diagnosed with cancer. He has also visited Syracuse and will choose between UC and the Orange, but the way he talked about being five hours driving distance from Georgia certainly made it sound like UC was at the top of his list. He said he liked the Bearcats' spread offense and believes that UC will play for a national championship in the next few years. He'll make his decision after he visits UC this weekend. UPDATE: USC wide receiver Vidal Hazelton is transferring to UC, where he will have one year of eligiblity remaining after he sits out the 2009 season. Hazelton, a 6-2, 210-pound junior from New York, was one of the top receivers in the country coming out of Hargrave Military Academy. He had 50 catches for 540 yards in 2007, but caught only six passes for 38 yards in 2008. He suffered a high ankle sprain in USC's season opener vs. Virginia and by the time he recovered he was unable to reclaim his starting job. He's expected to visit the UC campus this weekend. Hazelton is expected to fill the slot that will be vacated by Mardy Gilyard after Gilyard completes his eligibility next fall. By the way, UC announced today that Gilyard is not making himself for the NFL draft and will return to UC next year.

February 5, 200916 yr Kelly recruits help for present Seventeen of the 27 players in the University of Cincinnati’s 2009 recruiting class are from within 100 miles of the campus, but coach Brian Kelly and his staff were more than willing to go a long way for a talented player who they believe can help them right away. Having lost 10 of the 11 starters from last year’s defense, they signed two California junior college players – a defensive back and a defensive lineman. Having lost All-American punter Kevin Huber, they signed a high school punter from Florida. And looking to replace wide receiver Dominick Goodman, they signed another California juco, although in this case it’s Jamar Howard, a Withrow High School product who is coming home. “We have a couple of transfers that we expect to come in and contribute for us right away,” Kelly said today as he announced his third UC recruiting class. February 5, 200916 yr I really like this year's recruiting class. I can't wait to see how much better the recruiting gets in years to come. I think in a few more years UC will be stealing some of the higher rated players from the bigger schools and will definitely be competing in the national title race.

February 19, 200916 yr Football Announces Staff Changes Bob Diaco named defensive coordinator; Kerry Coombs & Mike Elston promoted University of Cincinnati head football coach Brian Kelly announced three staff changes, including the hiring of former University of Virginia assistant Bob Diaco as the Bearcats defensive coordinator Wednesday (Feb. 18). Kelly also announced the promotion of defensive backs coach Kerry Coombs to associate head coach and special teams coordinator/recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Elston to assistant head coach. Coombs and Elston will also retain their current responsibilities. “In any business, you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with,” Kelly said. “I’ve been fortunate to have a great staff, and today we were able to make it better. I appreciate what Mike Thomas and the administration at the University of Cincinnati have done in helping us to continue to compete for BIG EAST Championships year in, and year out.” Diaco (pronounced DEE-ah-ko) joined the Virginia staff in Dec. 2005 as the linebackers and special teams coach. Following the close of the 2008 season, he was named the Cavaliers’ defensive coordinator. He inherits a defense that finished 31st in the nation in total defense (321.9 yards a game), 19th in run defense (115), and led the Big East in sacks (2.86). February 19, 200916 yr If Brian Kelly leaves...Kerry Combs is being groomed for the Head Coaching position here. He's a local guy with a lot of respect. He's also responsible for signing many of UC's top-notch recruits over the past couple of seasons. The best thing is that UC would be his dream job. When he first got the hire when Kelly came here I thought it was the best move Kelly could make. Combs was even part of the Head Coaching discussion then (albeit a long shot, but still).
February 23, 200916 yr Bearcats' six-pack get last laugh NFL SCOUTING COMBINE During this past season, University of Cincinnati defensive backs Mike Mickens, DeAngelo Smith and Brandon Underwood kept pushing each other in practice. The internal competition paid off as all three have a good shot at being drafted. "Looking at past years, UC never turned out at a combine like this. We went from being laughingstocks to Big East champions. Our season and the players here speak for everything we've accomplished," said Underwood, who had four interceptions last season. August 29, 200915 yr Long video that recaps the 2008 season. Cool intro with Brian Kelly driving through the city.
September 8, 200915 yr ^ I love it!!!! After tonight's spanking of Rutgers every Cincinnatian should get behind this team. Let's support the team that we know can win!
September 8, 200915 yr The funny thing is that Rutgers was once again picked to finish higher than the Bearcats in the Big East, they were the favorites going in to this game with their newly expanded stadium and home field advantage, and 3 out of 4 ESPN guys picked Rutgers in this game. There were questions about how the defense would look only returning 1 starter from a year ago and the defense was better than what was expected. The same can be said for the offense which probably was the most dangerous looking Brian Kelly offense yet. He has his fast/athletic players in there, he ran a Wildcat formation several times, and ran five wide outs consistently. The formations and shear athleticism was obviously too much for the much touted Rutgers defense. The thing I was most impressed with was the dominant offensive line. Pike barely got touched and the line that was known for its holding penalties last year basically played mistake free today. Had we kept our starters in for the fourth quarter we probably would have dropped 60+ on the Scarlet Knights. Pead (true soph. running back) also looked incredible today.
September 8, 200915 yr Check out the analysis from ESPN now (summary video at bottom of article): Cincinnati again team to beat in Big East http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_/id/6280/cincinnati-again-team-to-beat-in-big-east
September 8, 200915 yr I saw the last few minutes of the game on ESPN. I'm not big into college football, but it was pretty sweet seeing the Bearcats open their season by whopping Rutgers.
September 8, 200915 yr ^Well if you tuned in that late then you saw UC's second, and in some cases, third string offense. Pike had nearly 300 yards passing at the half and completed 20 of 25 pass attempts. When he was pulled early in the fourth he completed around 80% of his passes, threw for around 400 yards, passed for 3 TDs, and was sacked only once. This was pure domination today...Rutgers was clearly over-matched in every regard.
September 8, 200915 yr Awesome performance by the Bearcats. I really hope they can have another BCS season this year!
September 8, 200915 yr Just stumbled onto this thread. I knew the offense would be potent, but yesterday's game was a remarkable display of efficiency. If the defense can even perform at an average level, this team has the potential to be better than last year's. Hopefully we can get a strong crowd at the game Saturday vs. SEMO and continue to help Coach Kelly build Bearcat football into a national power.
September 9, 200915 yr I would love to go to the game but I have to work Saturday and I'm not sure that I would make it on time. My only fear is that Brian Kelly will leave at the end of the year for some big name/big money program. I hope I'm wrong.
September 13, 200915 yr The Bearcats beat the brains out of their second straight opponent tonight. The final score was 70-3 in a game where the starters were pulled at the end of the 2nd Quarter. By the end of the game the Bearcats had the 5th string QB in with a whole field of underclassman. The offense is scary good and is scoring at will. During the first two games they're scoring TDs almost at will and are driving 60-70 yards in about 2 minutes. The special teams look terrific, the defense is much better than expected, and the offensive line is overpowering its opponents. This is obviously a well-coached team that should be frightening Oregon State right now. After two games the Bearcats are outscoring their opponents 115 - 18.
September 13, 200915 yr I almost went to the game tonight. Kinda glad I didn't because i'd rather see a close game than a blowout but UC has been playing awesome! They are gonna keep sliding up in the rankings if they play this well from here on out.
