April 11, 20232 yr For anyone keeping track, with crossline, both this and the second part, 4th and 5th and the lusso, there will be a total of 1025 apartments added just to this small stretch of 5th. Edited April 11, 20232 yr by VintageLife
April 12, 20232 yr It still disgusts me how they tore down the old warehouses over there. Those are beautiful buildings that could make for some really cool spaces.

Over two dollars/square foot per month is just the norm nowadays. Wow. I am sure they will be nice for those who can afford them though and the growing density of the area is just great. Fifth is turning into it's own linear node now. We need more of this(and more affordable housing thrown in the mix as well).

April 12, 20232 yr All jokes aside, I would love to have a Moo-Moo on the Westside either the Lincoln Village area just outside 270 or just within 270 off Broad. Maybe near the new Sheets/Bob Evans.

April 25, 20232 yr Marker's Crossline project wrapping up in Weinland Park “Crossline, the latest mixed-use project from Marker Development, is set to open next month. The development has 180 units and a second-floor outdoor amenity space with a pool, grill stations and a tenant lounge area. The pool will be surrounded with landscaping, greenery and large planters. The building's gym has views of downtown Columbus and also has a yoga room. Pre-leasing has already started for the Crossline, with the apartments about 20% pre-leased, Marker said. The first apartments will be ready in May, but the whole building will be finished this June. The Guild will also break ground this summer.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/04/25/crossline-weinland-park-development-weinland-park.html

I have a bit of a fear of heights and it almost seems like I am there looking down. The balconies project but the railing on them seems to tie them in and they don't bother me as it might if they were glass. It looks good and we need more like it. I also love the nice big windows.
May 1, 20232 yr Kind of a cool view out from the Kroger produce department. Zoom in and look out the windows - a little hard to photograph but it’s evident in person. On the left is The Verve well underway at King and High, in the middle is The Common, and soon the Peer will fill in the windows on the right.

The most striking thing about this image is the Starbucks in this Kroger. A bit different from how I remember this Kroger.

It would be an even better view if those windows weren’t there and it was a 10 story building instead of a parking lot.

I really like the way you think. We need height between OSU and our CBD. Driving between the two you can just feel the connection now in a way that was not there before(ten, twenty years ago?)and height along High would just help to cement the feeling that it is all just one continuous entity. I can't wait for the Short North Tower. Anything else they can get in there without demolishing something really historic I am all for it. Keep some facades, have some recesses like on Park Street, but build up. Mayor Coleman nailed it years ago with the whole "High Five" thing. Edited May 1, 20232 yr by Toddguy

It is kinda funny how they've tried to create that urban connection between downtown and OSU via the Short North, but it's like the definition of surface level because you go a block east or west and it becomes so much less dense so quickly. It is nice to see more of the infill going in both along high and into Victorian and Italian Village to actually create a more urban dense connected environment though.

Once all the parking lots along high fill in, we should start seeing some east/west movement. Although the only street that is super doable on is 5th. It will happen on campus also. There are tons of crappy 80’s apartment buildings all over the place that can be easily replaced. Edited May 1, 20232 yr by VintageLife

You are correct-it is like a string really. But it is our most important street IMO and it can be the linear spine of our inner city, from German Village to Old North Columbus. This spine will have nodes of density along it-that is where the infill that can happen adjacent to some extent to High becomes important-it forms the nodes. We have OSU and the CBD, the height along High gives visual confirmation of the spine, and the density will help us to get better transit, hopefully enough density to warrant a streetcar or something. I really thought the "High Five" was a great idea and should be pursued vigorously. We need to play up to our strengths, and High is a very strong point. Which is why I love the idea of ten story buildings put here and there along or adjacent to High, and loved VintageLife's comment. JMO of course.

I would probably cry if street cars came back to High Street. If they did, I'd probably be about a 5 minute walk from a stop and could randomly pop into the short north and downtown without having to drive.

Honestly it should go all the way from 104 on the south up to 270 on the north. I hate that clintonville destroys the feel of high st. Maybe in 20 years they will catch on.
May 8, 20232 yr I’m at Kroger and was looking at the verve and they completely changed the look of the building. The brick on the south side is a dark gray the panels are dark and the brick on the north is more red. It doesn’t look bad, but is 100% different from the rendering they have displayed on the fence.

May 23, 20232 yr I can’t imagine the inflation costs they’re working with, but it does make me so frustrated considering they own two other lots in that area of fourth which are ripe for development. Are those lots just going to sit vacate for years too? I guess the consolation is that I generally like Lykens’ projects.

June 4, 20232 yr From 4th & 5th- a new elevator core is rising along 4th And it's kind of hard to see because it's up a bit of an incline but foundation work appears to have started for the apartments that will be just west of the parking garage along 4th

For the builds not being tall, it really does a good job of feeling packed. That corridor is really narrow and you wouldn’t really notice before.
June 24, 20231 yr New Apartments Rising Behind Preserved Murals “A new apartment complex is rising at the southeast corner of 11th and Grant in Weinland Park. The project will feature two 24-unit apartment buildings (each three stories tall), in addition to a swimming pool and a community center for residents. What makes the development unique, though, is what still remains on the one-acre site – two historic brick buildings and significant portions of the outer walls of two other buildings are being preserved, meaning the graffiti-style murals that have adorned those walls since 2015 will continue to be been visible from the street. The project marks the final piece of a larger development that extends south along Grant Avenue, from 11th Avenue to 5th Avenue, and that has been years in the making.” https://columbusunderground.com/new-apartments-rising-behind-preserved-murals-bw1/

It looks weird to me, but overall it is still a good project and is great for that area.
June 24, 20231 yr It's definitely odd, and the lower units whose windows look out directly onto the back of that brick wall are going to have it rough ... They could have creatively (and relatively easily) added some openings to punch through at different points while still preserving the bulk of the murals

I used to live in the area and one of the two tracks begins to turn eastward which causes incredibly loud screeching as the train slowly navigates the junction.

Hopefully there’s some decent sound proofing. When I first moved into Gravity, I was worried about the noise with it being right next to the tracks, but it ended up barely being noticeable inside.
