Posted March 14, 200817 yr after a monsoon rain all day last saturday i couldn’t wait to get outside. so i took the camera on an errand sunday, which turned out to be sunny and nice (quite a contrast to the major blizzard in ohio!). this is up and down lower 9th avenue in manhattan between 14th and 23rd streets: apple store at 14th st & 9th ave quite a trio -- port authority building, porter house & the old homestead steakhouse (1868) looking back at the chelsea market building the maritime hotel building a peek up on the groovy deck of the maritime looking back at the fulton houses pj’s typical stuff across the street from pj’s heading north on 9th avenue i like this old apt building my fav block on this strip (although I don’t give a hoot about the unified awnings) here’s the real reason I wanted to show this stretch – a new “test” dedicated bike lane along wide 9th avenue last but not least, the iconic & block busting london terrace apts on 23rd st bet 9th-10th avenues *** so that’s whassup on lower ninth ave last wkend ***
March 14, 200817 yr I actually kind of like the unified awnings over this I guess it's just personal taste for me.
March 14, 200817 yr The Porter House is God awful. But great thread :). "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
March 14, 200817 yr I sort of liked the Porter House projects. I have no idea what they looked like on the inside, but the building itself looked well constructed. Certainly has a staid quality to it, but it isn't trying to show off, or ape anything either. Hey, mrnyc, can you get some shots of the hot pink palazzo on West 11th Street next time you're in the neighborhood?
March 14, 200817 yr Nice shots! Nothing like walking around downtown on a sunny day- like today in fact! And I love the bike lane (thank you commissioner Sadik-Khan!). I really hope the city has the guts to put them on streets with significant traffic someday. Not holding my breath though.

March 27, 200817 yr Thanks. Sorry it took so long for me to respond, it's my first time back to the internet since the 15th of March.
March 28, 200817 yr Damn bikers.. they're more dangerous than the cabs when walking. Everyday on my walk to work I nearly get hit by a courier. They'll just run through intersections, not paying attention to the crosswalk signals. Not that cabs ever do that....

It's mean, but it will make you feel better.

Poorly, haha. Still staying out on Long Island. Avoiding moving in with complete randoms and trying to at least find friend of a friend.
March 31, 200817 yr Haha yeah "dedicated" until they are constructed. I've seen cabbies pass other cabs with 2 wheels on the curb.
April 4, 200817 yr last but not least, the iconic & block busting london terrace apts on 23rd st bet 9th-10th avenues This is where I stayed when I was in New York last summer! My friend has a 1 bedroom apartment in this building. The interior court yard is sooooo beautiful. Such a relaxing retreat from the hustle & bustle of Manhattan. I think I'll be visiting him again at the end of June for Pride weekend. Can't wait to be back! :)
