Posted March 16, 200817 yr the sunset park neighborhood in brooklyn is home to ny's newest chinatown. lotsa pics --enjoy! wiki sez: Since the 1980's, the neighborhood has attracted many East Asian immigrants, centered on an area now known as "Brooklyn's Chinatown", along 8th Avenue from 42nd to 62nd Street, where the city's third-largest Chinese community (after Manhattan's Chinatown and Flushing, Queens) can be found. Some claim the reason the Chinese settled on 8th Avenue is because in Chinese folklore, the number eight is lucky for financial matters, and "8th Avenue" can be loosely interpreted as "road to wealth". Another explanation is the direct subway ride to Manhattan's Chinatown on the N/R and D lines. so do you think he saw me? reminders of an older polish neighborhood on the northern part of 8th avenue a legion hall just off 8th brooklyn chinese-american club you can see the verrazano bridge way down the street  typical home siding one of many bubble tea cafes typical shops older classic bodega style signage getting into the heart of it now rather crowdy around these main blocks another view of this newer multi-use building chinese american banks a mall street side business more colorful shops another look off 8th along a side street a mosque -- the southern section of 8th avenue has the beginnings of an Arabic neighborhood that lies between sunset park and bay ridge hk grocery store yet another side street peek street vendor chinese product delivery trucks local transportation – aka chinese “dollar vans” something new in an old block after school treats a new asian style shop front on the way tags -- looking for work? cracky crabs! people people everywhere the old soccer tavern adapts below street level retail & the verrazano at seen from the southern end of the strip a last look at colorful street side food time to grab a vietnamese ice coffee & banh mi sandwich at thanh da for the road a final look up 8th avenue last up -- the 8th ave/63nd st subway station waiting for a ride home *** and there you have it -- brooklyn’s colorful new chinatown in sunset park ***
March 17, 200817 yr When I went there years ago, it was almost a transplanted Queens neighborhood. I'm sure it's still that way, if you catch my drift. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
