March 17, 200817 yr Nice! Cincinnati has held on to the character that so many cities have discarded.
March 17, 200817 yr Nice! Cincinnati has held on to the character that so many cities have discarded. I agree that Cincinnati is the best city ever...well said, Rob.
March 17, 200817 yr Nice. Check out the unique restaurant "the Hideaway" next door to the Northside Tavern.
March 17, 200817 yr I love that Alley sign on Hamilton Avenue. I think it's the same design as the ones along Main St. in OTR. Does anyone know the story behind them...Are they anywhere else? Are they unique to Cincy? Where they all installed at the same time? (This one looks older than the Main St ones.) I really love them.
March 18, 200817 yr Quite a contrast to the established gayborhoods of Columbus and Cleveland but as Rob said, there's so much character there. It reminds me in some ways of the western portions of Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood - equally full of potential and in need of a little polish. Great photos! :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

Great photos! :-) How long has it been since you've been in the Northside MayDay? Certainly, by these pictures and by hanging out there a lot, the neighborhood is still gritty in parts and is the state's grittiest gayborhood. But before this year, I hadn't been there in 4 years and was quite amazed at how much the NBD had improved. Still a ways to go though.
March 18, 200817 yr I agree with Atlas, it is currently changing a lot. Pollution and other environmental problems certainly inhibit fast development due to the Mill Creek (for example American Can Factory condos). Access isn't so convenient either. They have a very active community council though and there's prominant city leaders who live there. I kinda like the grittiness of it and I think a lot of people who live there do too.
March 18, 200817 yr ajknee...They also have those black street signs in the College Hill business district. They installed them in 2005-2006 when they did their streetscape project. I don't know the history behind them or the reasons for them, though. It might be worth shooting off an e-mail to DOTE.

I forgot...they're installing them in Woodburn as part of the streetscape project.
March 25, 200817 yr ^ LOL...no, that alley's called Pope Alley. I have to see it in person! Gotta a link to a map marker or something?
March 26, 200817 yr ^ Yeah, it's just below the mis-labelled "Polk Alley". You can see it running off of Fergus Street: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=39.162702,-84.536689&spn=0.001988,0.003616&t=h&z=18
March 30, 200817 yr How did you get to the roof of American Can (Pic #1)? I've heard that there are plans to turn the old factory into condos. Edit - Nevermind - the answer is on your blog! (http://www.building-cincinnati.com/2008/03/inside-american-can.html)
