Here are some shots that I took on March 6 and March 12.  Look out for some upcoming shots of the inside of the American Can building on my blog, Building Cincinnati.

Nice! Cincinnati has held on to the character that so many cities have discarded.

Blue Jay Restaurant is GREAT!

I agree that Cincinnati is the best city ever...well said, Rob.

Nice.  Check out the unique restaurant "the Hideaway" next door to the Northside Tavern.

I love that Alley sign on Hamilton Avenue.

I think it's the same design as the ones along Main St. in OTR.  Does anyone know the story behind them...Are they anywhere else?  Are they unique to Cincy?  Where they all installed at the same time?  (This one looks older than the Main St ones.)  I really love them.

Quite a contrast to the established gayborhoods of Columbus and Cleveland but as Rob said, there's so much character there. It reminds me in some ways of the western portions of Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood - equally full of potential and in need of a little polish. Great photos! :-)

How long has it been since you've been in the Northside MayDay?  Certainly, by these pictures and by hanging out there a lot, the neighborhood is still gritty in parts and is the state's grittiest gayborhood.  But before this year, I hadn't been there in 4 years and was quite amazed at how much the NBD had improved.  Still a ways to go though.

I agree with Atlas, it is currently changing a lot. Pollution and other environmental problems certainly inhibit fast development due to the Mill Creek (for example American Can Factory condos). Access isn't so convenient either. They have a very active community council though and there's prominant city leaders who live there. I kinda like the grittiness of it and I think a lot of people who live there do too.

ajknee...They also have those black street signs in the College Hill business district.  They installed them in 2005-2006 when they did their streetscape project.

I don't know the history behind them or the reasons for them, though.  It might be worth shooting off an e-mail to DOTE.

I know where I'm heading next time I'm in Cincy.

the name was cooler when called blue jay cafe. #20 is cool

I forgot...they're installing them in Woodburn as part of the streetscape project.

wait, am I known for alley's or something? I'm confused. But nice work, yay.

^ LOL...no, that alley's called Pope Alley.

I have to see it in person! Gotta a link to a map marker or something?

Nice photo thread!  That alley is my favorite scene
