Twenty-three were identified this year as notable UrbanOhio forumers with a cluster of seven recieving the highest number of nominations (seen above in reverse alphabetical order). Everyone is entitled to one vote and results will be revealed when the poll expires in 5 days (March 21). Good luck everyone!

Glad to see John Schneider nominated.  He's done a remarkable job on keeping us informed of the progress of the Cincy streetcar project, as well as showing great insights on transportation issues in general.

I would have voted Noozer, but he wasn't on there.  Or KJP.

Yeah, he's really active, not just on informing the forum but also in the community. I've heard him speak twice at UC.

Jmecklenborg gave some incredible ideas and insight for proposed routes and problems. I learned a lot from his posts in transportation.

SlipperyFish.... thanks for the kind thought.  Still, a very good slate of candidates above, especially given the huge membership and level of participation on this forum.

Go U-O !!!!! :banger:

So is this final then...I am the 2007 Forumer of the Year?

Only 34 people voted?  Where is the Secretary of State?  I want a recount, if that egomaniacal UncleRando is the '07 winner I win never post on UO again!

congrats rando!  definitely deserved.  only 34 votes? geez.

What if I buy you a cup of coffee...will that smooth things over MTS?

You know I quit drinking coffee! You little B*stard!  Today is caffeine free day number 24.

come back to the good stuff.  I'm enjoying a nice cup from coffee emporium in cincy right now.  mmmmm, costa rican blend....mmmmm.

The original thread got locked, but I had a question...or a suggestion...or whatever this would be, but anyway...

I know this is over (and congrats UncleRando!), but maybe next time may I suggest a different approach since there were only 34 votes cast?

Is there a way to utilize a private messaging polling system to be sent to all registered members of Urban Ohio? So basically when they log in, a private message box will pop up much in the same way a private message sent from another member would. You could then cast a vote from there? That way, it's just kind of "in their face" and will more likely to get a vote from many more members than from those just browsing the forums? This may or may not have been done before, but I don't recall seeing it.

Just a thought....

In theory that sounds great - not sure how easy it would be to implement.

And I must have accidentally hit the "lock thread" button - sorry, it's just so easy to do that when you're the H.B.I.C., not that I'd expect any of you foolish mortals, errr... civilians err... wonderful people to understand ;-)

Just a thought....

We discussed this last year and for some reason it was denied.

I do think it should be a "banner" showing above every forum, until the cut off date, but not a PM.  I - and I am fully aware that UO is a privilege, not a right - feel as though if an individual is an active participant here, then they will exercise their right to vote without having to be "persuaded".

Maybe in the future for each nominee, there should be a brief reason why they were nominated, with supporting posts.  This would give newer members and member in a different regions (for instance I rarely read news on Cinci, so I don't know who posts articles that benefit all of UO) to become acquainted with candidates they don't know.

I felt the choices were skewed towards Southwestern Ohio.  Not to take anything away from UncleRando, but being from Cleveland, my top two choices would have been MayDay and KJP.  Anyways, congrats UncleRando.

^^^Oh, I didn't mean to imply members should be forced to vote, sorry. Maybe there could be a "No thanks" option or whatever and they would never be bothered again. ;-)

I do as well, but keep in mind, the general election asked folks to submit five nominees.  Maybe people from the Cleveland or Columbus area's didn't vote and the hicks and degenerates people from SW Ohio voted in high numbers since they are all cousins or brothers/sisters/aunts/uncles therefore giving them more candidates for the final vote.

It's been said before, and I will say it again, "democracy doesn't work".

Congrats Rando!

I think Rando voted for himself 11 times...

lol.  oh man, what a sh*t show

Well I swear I didn't vote for myself.  I didn't vote for David either.

I didn't vote, period!

What?!  :-o Young man why did you not vote?

I think Rando voted for himself 11 times...

I did create 9 new accounts and used each one accordingly.  You won't be seeing any posts from AuntRando, GpaRando, NanaRando, or BroDo anytime soon.

Well I swear I didn't vote for myself.  I didn't vote for David either.

Whats THAT suppose to mean?  :|

Oh well I guess we're the worst of the best. I suppose that counts for something.

At least you two were finalist!

I know, I'm just playing. :)

That surprised the hell out of me.

If only I hadn't voted for ink...

I think the FOY nominee should be sent out in January with a Jan. 31 cut off then a two week voting period the first two weeks of February.

This way we have a consistent Annual Event.

It's nice to see that me winning the FOY has caused all this discussion on how to have better voting/nomination processes in years to come.  :-D

shame on me, but i cast my way too late vote for unclerando too. oh sure he's totally biased against 3/4 of the state, but he's very cool about it. well desrved. congrats.

You egomaniac!  First you demand a party (if it were up to me, you'd be detained at the border, God knows what bad habits or diseases you've, knowingly or unknowingly, acquired living in the South), now you claim your win has sparked debate about improving the FOY process.  You sound like Trump!!!  ugh!

I demand a recount!

I have worked on that...Cbus has grown tremendously on me, and Cleveland is a city that I root for now.  I can't help that Cincy is far superior.

Just like when Bush won the election...hanging Chads and all...hope the outcome isnt anything like Bush...

^^ I'm sure it is in "Rando World."

  • 3 weeks later...

maybe I should start a new thread..

Anyone think that we should have a "rookie of the year" poll? I'd vote for McCleveland.

You can start one, ya know... ;)

Why not just have the "urban ohio awards"?

Folks can vie for a "Golden Mouse" (sponsored by Harry Winston) in several categories.

Sounds like a highschool superlative / popularity contest.

I hated that @sshole that was on every page of the yearbook.

humm, struck a cord with you, huh, David?

You've haven't gotten over your Prom King debacle have you?

Rewards are overrated ... that's what's wrong with kids these days ... we reward them for everything they do, even being rewarded for what they're supposed to do.

Who'se kids?

If you're a parent kids should just do as told, however, speaking as an Uncle, I want to spoil them and do the opposite of their parents (i.e. do the fun stuff or let them do things - within reason, that there parents are opposed to).

I plan to be the fingerpaint/BB Gun/drum set buying kind of uncle.

Drums is the best gift for a 3 year old!  Just make sure you send the drum set to their parents house!

Fine, send a drum set to my house, why don't you. I'll reciprocate by buying you a nice feral cat, with a severe case of tapeworms. ;-)
