That one is in my top 5, along with the weideman buildings, and the sterling welch / linder davis properties. At least there is something of "substance" where the hollenden was (even if the attached parking garage killed/continues to kill vincent and part of e. 6th) most of the losses around here just resulted in parking lots.

Amen about what that horrible garage does to E6th and Vincent.  Argh that one drives me crazy.

Wow, good call on Weidman- I'm not sure I knew about that loss.  http://ech.cwru.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=WC  :(

sitting inbetween the bingham and national terminals, the restoration of that complex of buildings would have probably added another 5-600 people on what is already the densest street in downtown. g-damn sara lee.

No one seems to be able to answer the most important question here: WHY IS CLEVELAND SO F*CKING COOL!!!???!!  I am somewhat infatuated with that city now.  You should all be very, very proud.  I love my city more than life itself, and I expect all of you to feel that way about yours, too.  CLEVELAND, CLEVELAND!  WHO KNOWS, YOU MIGHT EVEN SEE THIS GUY...!!

I've turned down better jobs in other cities because I would rather live here and do what I can to help it be a better city (transportation-wise). How's that for pride?!?!

BTW, here's the old Hollenden Hotel.....

No joke. I gasped when I saw that pic.

This is one of my favorite downtown old buildings...  Pity it is gone... At a time when the city was tearing down so many classics, there was already a myriad of parking lots and already cleared spaces upon which to build. If only that could have been the case to spare all these structures. :-(
