Per Blinker 12's suggestion, I'm including some neighborhood shots this time.

WOW @ the Great Lakes Brewery before...

Around 1979 that place was in business as the Market Street Exchange. My BF at the time worked there, as did some of his friends. I think you had to be gay to be a waiter there.

Great shots! That Amalgamated Union Hall is wonderful.

That second house on East. 25th is my favorite in the city, after the four townhouses on Prospect at East 36th.  Both of those East 25th St. homes appear to be in better shape today than they were then.

Amazing shots, BarneyBoy... Love those old boat-like 70s-era cars; what'd those things get, like 5 MPG?  And the Huron-Prospect Point lows my mind...

The area, esp Prospect, was a total dump in those days... Compare that corner's trendy existence today, with the Winking Lizard, Pointe condos & Kent's Urban Design Insititute, among others.

Stouffer's and Halles!  BarneyBoy, this trip down memory lane is killing me - I a good way.

For anyone who states downtown has not improved, they should be directed to BB's threads.

Wow, thanks. Complete with the old Fotomat on W25th.

Freakin' awesome threads.

Northwest Orient!?! Where's People's Express! Braniff!

These pics, along with Ink's roaming moves around the state, are hands down the best pics threads on here.

And MTS is right, overall downtown is leaps and bounds better today than it was 25 years ago.

Barney, weren't most of these pics in the "Cleveland: You've gotta be tough" T-shirt era? Or was that earlier? Feels very early 80's, maybe just after the Kardiac Kids, or around the summer of the All-Star game. This pic is newer though, I see the USA Today box on the corner.

Awesome

Great stuff! And those are also early 80s shots. The Cuyahoga and Williamson buildings on Public Square were demolished in 1983 for Sohio.

Brings back so many memories. I can just imagine listening to the car stereo while driving down Prospect, listening to Culture Club, Soft Cell and Human League on 92Q - The Rock of the 80s or G-98! Throw in some radio ads in there for Sony Beta tapes, Zayre's, Cotton Club ginger ale, Sohio's forecast low ("You go or Sohio pays the tow") and we've completed the trip down memory lane.

these are too funky

Great stuff Barney... keep it up!

For some reason, I thought Theo's Restaurant was on Memphis and Pearl across from Deacones in Old Brooklyn.

Great Photo's!

It is, or at least until very recently. I believe Theo's has closed.

yes indeed, egads to the old Downtown Wink Building.

fantastic pics -- keep'em coming. gotta love the one of the market street exchange aka great lakes brewpub --- and note the boarded up future wine bar on the corner of it. i can remember it all looking like that.

these threads remind me of getting old and of an old broadway song....

TITLE: I Remember It Well

We met at nine

     We met at eight

I was on time

     No, you were late

Ah yes! I remember it well

We dined with friends

     We dined alone

A tenor sang

     A baritone

Ah yes! I remember it well

That dazzling April moon

     There was none that night

     And the month was June

That's right! That's right!

It warms my heart to know that

You remember still the way you do

Ah yes! I remember it well

How often I've thought of that Friday (Monday) night

When we had our last rendezvous

And somehow I've foolishly wondered

If you might by some chance be thinking of it too?

That carriage ride

     You walked me home

You lost a glove

     I lost a comb

Ah yes! I remember it well

That brilliant sky

     We had some rain

Those Russian songs

     From sunny Spain?

Ah yes! I remember it well

You wore a gown of gold

     I was all in blue

Am I getting old?

     Oh no! Not you!

How strong you were, how young and gay

A prince of love in every way

Ah yes! I remember it well

Dear diary, the song I'm listening to today is......
