Thats why I suggested finding a place on the train line, unless his company will allow him to expense parking, which they generally dont or take a company paid car service to and from the airport. Maybe I'm naive or out of the loop, but what company doesn't allow you to expense parking at the airport on a business trip:? We'll at my company its based on title/position. The OP might not be at a level where parking is an allowable expense.

March 26, 200817 yr I just asked my assistant, and I was wrong. SORRY. :oops: Airport parking and tolls are reimburseable as long as you are on company business and its book via the company TA. I didn't know as I never drive to/from the airport, book my own travel or do expense reports. I've never heard of it either. If this person is travelling back and forth to Brussels, there are going to be several times that he gets in in the middle of the night or ealry early morning when trains are not running. I am a fan of the rapid, but it sounds like you are going to be using alot of short, expensible cab rides, or airport parking. And for the duration of time this person is spending there, sounds like they will have lots of luggage.
March 27, 200817 yr I don't think you'd arrive in the middle of the night coming back from Brussels any more so than a normal flight. Nor would you typically leave early in the morning. Trans-atlantic flights typically leave in the late afternoon/early evening and arrive back in the US at the same time, late afternoon/early evening, from my experience. Good point about the luggage though.

I have to say I havent been to the Shaker area much. I will be checking out a lot of apts in the listing over the weekend. One of the reasons I wanted to move to areas like Parma and Middleburgh is because I felt it would be easier to find newly renovated apts there and natural beauty and amenities (walking, running paths, gyms, pools) . But looking at the website I now think Shaker heights could provide both.

The Red Line start running at 4:00 AM (I get on a 4:05/4:10 AM train from Univ. Circ. to get me to the airport at about 5 AM) so he can make it. I would think he would be in corp. housing. ARe you going to be in corp housing? If yes, then I dont think the is a need to bring luggage.

Fully, please keep in mind, that some of those apartments listed are in eastern Shaker Heights, not on Shaker Square which is in Cleveland or the parts of Shaker Hts. which are closest to Shaker Square. You can't ask for more natural beauty than the Shaker Lakes, which surrounds the area. My grandfather walks/or rides thru the Shaker Lakes almost every day. Spring and summer the greenery is very lush and when the leaves change in fall its spectacular. Van Aken Crossing and Ludlow Gables can be seen in the upper right side of the first picture in the Shaker section. Ashwood courts is out of range, but to the right of that area.

Why is it not OK for me to point out that Sagamore Hills is a long drive to the airport? Maybe this will cause them to think about how they will get to the airport before they buy a place and then regret it. If the person hadn't asked for advice and given us information, then I wouldn't be offering an opinion.

March 30, 200817 yr I have a decision now. Not on the apt but the place... I have decided I want to move to SHAKER HEIGHTS. All day today, and I hope this beautiful sunny day is the start of Spring, I drove around the Shaker Square area and simply loved it. The Lower Shaker Lake, the fabulous houses, the trees, the urban feel, young professionals. I would be really happy if I could move there. I looked at the Fairhill Place (Fairhill and North Moreland) the Cormere (North Moreland between Larchmere and Fairhill) Kemper Place (Kemper Rd) Knickerbocker (off Coventry Rd opp Marc's) Crestview (Overlook Rd) but didnt quite find any appealing. The Fairhill Place is quite nice with its proximity to the lake and the square plus there is some recreational bldg next door. Does any one know what its called ? The Knickerbocker are really nice apartments but I dont think I want to live so close to the Coventry. Also they dont have convered parking. So now my task is to find out an apt in the Shaker Heights area. Does any one have some names to throw out?

No, unfortunately I don't. I've known some people who lived in nice apartments in Cleveland/University Heights but they seemed to be subleasing directly from the owner rather than being a part of a larger apartment community. More like a townhome or condo for rent I guess. Maybe you could try looking through personal ads in the Sun Newspaper or PD?
April 2, 200817 yr I checked out http://www.pluggedincleveland.com Another resource; they did not have a ton of rentals listed in seven hills, brecksville, berea, north royalton, etc but they did have some, and some were less than $700 a month, even a few less than $600. So you might want to look there. I also agree that Shaker Square should be full of rentals and it's right on the train line. Happy hunting!
April 2, 200817 yr Shaker's a great spot- congrats on finding a community that feels right. The parkways and shaker lakes really are amazing amenities. plus there is some recreational bldg next door. Does any one know what its called ? That would be the Cleveland Skating Club, a private (as in country club private) skating/swimming/racket sports club.

April 14, 200817 yr I have decided to move to the Hamptons in Beachwood. I could not find apts in Shaker Heights for a July move in date. I tried looking for a place in Cleveland Heights but same problem there. The Hamptons are a great apartment complex though. Right opposite the malls and close to university heights and case too. I got a 2 bed/2 bath place so now I need to find myself a roomate. Any ideas on how to go about that? I wanna thank all the folks on this forum for their help. I checked out numerous properties in the area and am now capable of guiding newcomers to cleveland. This has also given me an opportunity to better explore the city and get to know it more of its surrounding areas.
