Posted March 29, 200817 yr Around Cleveland Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Five Part Six After walking around Ohio City, my friend and I made our way to the flats. This is my friend who joined me in my Cleveland adventure. I was impressed with the Stonebridge buildings and the views from that side of the flats were amazing. Coming up... Part Three: The WHD and Downtown
March 29, 200817 yr Looks like someone likes bridges! But MayDay won't be happy seeing a bottle of GLB left sitting on the rail (that's Great Lake Brewing -- not Gay, Lesbian, Bi for you out-of-towners!). March 29, 200817 yr ^^Yeah, I like bridges. And that bottle was actually in the grass, I just set it on top of the rail to take a picture of it, but at least whoever owned the bottle had the courtesy to drink it all before just leaving it there. ^Thanks
March 29, 200817 yr Good shots! Did you know that the Veterans' Memorial Bridge (Detroit-Superior Viaduct) has a lower deck that used to carry streetcars across the river from the bridge's opening in 1917 until the demise of the streetcar system in 1954? The lower deck and subway approaches will be open to the public for self-guided tours on Saturday of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends; you can get the details here.

Hummmmmm? I have a sneaky suspicion the HBIC works for the GLB company's marketing street team.
March 29, 200817 yr Maybe the HBIC is the one who left it there. Hummmmmm? I have a sneaky suspicion the HBIC works for the GLB company's marketing street team. I have a feeling that the HBIC knows how to properly retire a bottle of GLB that doesn't include littering. :drunk:

Yeah I'm going to have to come to Cleveland sometime later this spring or summer. Andrew, awesome shots!! The Flats seems like an awesome place. I really like those new condos. I really like your pictures.
March 29, 200817 yr The Flats looks confusing and hard to navigate. It is, but alot of its charm comes from the short streets meeting at odd angles and the unusual buildings and vistas that results in.
March 29, 200817 yr Andrew captured what is the true defining quality of the Flats, and my most favorite feature: the bridges! I wish there was more adaptive reuse of the old buildings for residential living, especially on the West Bank of the Flats, but Stonebridge does look impressive. If we didn't live in Ohio City, we would likely live somewhere in the Flats.
March 29, 200817 yr If we didn't live in Ohio City, we would likely live somewhere in the Flats. Lol. I say that about Ohio City (even though technically the west Flats falls within OC boundaries). nice pics Andrew!
March 30, 200817 yr Rob- I had been wondering what the purpose of the lower deck was. Thanks for all the info. I am glad that everyone likes my pictures, thanks.
