April 1, 200817 yr You know what.. they are awesome anyway and i love them.. I LOVE night shots... And at least you aren't lazy and actually go out there and do it. You make me miss New York..
April 1, 200817 yr thanks. i would accept all tips & suggestions for camera settings, etc. except please no tripod, thats not gonna happen.
April 1, 200817 yr yeah without a tripod it's a little more interesting.. but depending on the camera.. you have to use the exposure settings.. what kind of camera do you have?
April 1, 200817 yr thanks. i have a lumix/panasonic dmc lx2 here are the details: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0607/06071904panasoniclx2.asp i like the oversaturation pics & the streaky cab & people shots. i want to use more of that stuff. they look kind of cool in moderation.
April 1, 200817 yr Yeah.. are you able to use all manual settings on it? Because if you can, try to slow down the shutter speed to maybe around 2-4 seconds and close the aperture a tiny bit. Just experiment with it. I just looked and that is a pretty sweet camera.
April 1, 200817 yr yeah it has manual and aperture. i do play with that, but always forget which way to go with them on the night shots. i don't take it out at night much so i always have to start from scratch. thx for the tips.
April 1, 200817 yr well for aperture, the lower the numbers go, the larger the aperture or iris, meaning it lets more light in and the shutter speed you will usually change when you change the aperture but since it's already dark out i dont think you have to mess with the aperture too much.. im not sure i haven't done too many night shots...
April 2, 200817 yr mrnyc, I just posted my first "night shot" in the picture of the day if you want to see it. Now I had a lot less light than you did but I put all the setting info to show exactly how that picture got the way it is. I'm going to keep practicing this.
April 2, 200817 yr Pretty cool - the blur gives them a certain character. Just squint your eyes if you want clear photos. If you don't want to use a tripod, look for things to lean on! Bracing the camera itself is of course best, but I've gotten by sometimes with holding the camera and leaning on things just to try to keep my body still.
April 2, 200817 yr I have extremely shaky hands when I try to keep my body still, so I HAVE to use a tripod most of the tim for night shots. But sometimes shaky hands add to the picture. A car was driving by as my friends were leaving a car meet and I was crouching while taking this picture. I thought it was kind of cool.
