Posted April 2, 200817 yr Glouster is one of the larger of the towns in the Black Diamonds region of Southeast, Ohio (Perry, Morgan, Athens, and Hocking Counties). I find this area simply facinating. It is certainly worthy of a leisurely drive some afternoon; there are numerous views and towns that simply can't be captured in a picture. From http://www.littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org/index.html: There was an abandoned mobile home on this lot that I trespassed on to grab these; to think of what people pay for views like this elsewhere.
April 2, 200817 yr Very nice! Just moved to the region. I like the western little cities of black diamonds (Nelsonville, Haydenville, New Straitsville & Shawnee) the best. A lot to explore.
April 2, 200817 yr Looks like there wasn't much going on in Glouster. Interesting photos from an area I haven't spent a lot of time in. Please keep them coming.
April 2, 200817 yr Oh man... this town is fascinating. Keep these tours coming!! My area of Pennsylvania has many tiny towns like this and they just intrigue me beyond belief.
April 2, 200817 yr Ah yes, the Black Diamonds Region. Perhaps Ohio's most depressed region yet one of the most fascinating. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 2, 200817 yr Interesting photos, and an area I have to visit sometime. Some of my ancestral roots are in Hocking County. There's something incongruous about the photos of Glouster in sunshine, under blue skies. I think dull, flat lighting and a gray, overcast sky would have been a better fit for the character of the town.
April 2, 200817 yr "Wonder Bar" is a surprising popular name. Glouster looks interesting, if sad. I like the 2nd story balconies overhanging the street.
April 3, 200817 yr Burr Oak State Park has a Glouster address. I stayed at a cabin there a few years ago that we shared with a mouse. Wonderful, remote, scenic area. It feels like the absolute end of the earth.
August 26, 200915 yr There are a lot of towns, err "little cities", listed on that site and I'll at the very least check out the book when it comes out. They even have an event calender. Glouster, and the region as a whole, definitely has it's own flavor. I'd like to see more of these towns covered and am, of course, intrigued by the towns listed on the site that don't have any photos. Murray City looks rather promising...
August 26, 200915 yr Very nice. Been by it once and was impressed at its scale for such a remote area. Newer roof?
August 26, 200915 yr Towns like these really interest me. Makes me want to explore the area. I have been to Shawnee but that's it.
December 20, 200915 yr I got the book from the library and I'm impressed. Some good urban BW shots of Gloucester and numerous smaller towns yet to make their way on UO.
December 21, 200915 yr I got the book from the library and I'm impressed. Some good urban BW shots of Gloucester and numerous smaller towns yet to make their way on UO. I have a few more towns sitting on my computer ready to post.
December 21, 200915 yr Excellent. Glouster looks like the best of the bunch, since I like bigger towns.
December 22, 200915 yr ^They call it that because twenty minutes after you eat one, you'll wonder what the heck was in it. :-o
