Posted April 3, 200817 yr A beautiful day to signify a new beginning for Cincinnati! Good night from Cincinnati!
April 3, 200817 yr I wish I could have gone to the groundbreaking celebration, but I couldn't skip out of a class I had from 3:30-5:00. Looks glorious.
April 3, 200817 yr Was that what that was? I saw the tent being set up when I went for a jog around six this evening. I thought it had something to do with the game. If I would have known it was the ground breaking, I would have stuck around. Glad to see it finally taking shape.

April 3, 200817 yr Cincinnatus, I heard you ran into my husband today! After viewing your pictures, he decided not to post his because he thought yours turned out better. Here is a short video he took:
April 3, 200817 yr in a nutshell, what is the banks development? Question: What is The Banks? Answer: The Banks is a proposed 18-acre neighborhood district on Cincinnati's riverfront between Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ball Park. Currently that land is occupied by parking lots, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and not much else. Developers hope to build up to 1,800 apartments and condominiums, up to 400,000 square feet of retail space, up to 1 million square feet of office space and up to 400,000 square feet of hotel space. The exact amount of each type of space has not been determined. The maximum square footage is 2.8 million. The development will also include an expansive riverfront park.

April 3, 200817 yr in a nutshell, what is the banks development? A large scale mixed use development including retail and condos between two major league stadiums. Designed to be more economically sustainable and appealing than Newport on the Levee (a big box mall across the river).
April 3, 200817 yr (I do know there is another 50 page thread, but..) Will it be built in phases, or one fell swoop? Either way, great to see!!!! Congrats Cincy!
April 3, 200817 yr Not to take ANYTHING away from this awesomeness, but I wonder if this will give Ovation a swift kick in the ars and get it into the news soon with a possible start date. Big Bill may have a sleepless night tonight.... This is awesome though!! I am trying to fathom the thought of TOWER CRANES all over the basin and tracks being laid in pavement by next Spring... (Banks, QCSII,One River Place,Ovation, Southshore....etc....etc..... & hopefully the streetcar tracks to connect to all. ) We are about to see more action downtown in 2 years, than (I) have seen in my last 28 years.
April 3, 200817 yr I'll believe it when I see it. :D "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 3, 200817 yr LOL I love how people (including me) ignored the Banks thread most of the time during the whole fiasco. Now all a sudden we all seek BASIC info after groundbreaking.
April 3, 200817 yr Bout time they started, I'll come back to this thread in 5 years when the project is halfway complete and Cincinnati is looking for money to try and finish it.
April 3, 200817 yr Hey, a light is starting to shine for Cincinnati...quick everyone let's piss it out.
April 3, 200817 yr I think we're getting ahead of ourselves here. We need to stop this groundbreaking nonsense and really look at how this will affect downtown. I mean, this massive project hasn't really been discussed by anyone, and I think it's important to debate it for a bit. So put the bulldozers away and lets take this to the city planning commission. If this proposal lasts, then maybe we could restart it in a few years.
April 3, 200817 yr Haven't we planned enough? I think we need a money tree more than anything. Things always run smoothly when you have a money tree.
April 3, 200817 yr ^I'm pretty sure that ajknee was joking around (or at least I hope). But yes a money tree would come in very handy from time to time.
April 4, 200817 yr I somehow missed these photos - what a great day. Things are starting to move in the "core", and I am more excited about downtown overall than I have been in awhile. I also heard that the intial phase will cost around $74 million, but they have a line of credit of $96 million just in case. This development team was also able to get this in a challenging economy so as long as the space fills they should have no problem with future phases.
