I was trying to make an Amtrak joke. It derailed.

Anyway, I wrote about Breeze possibly coming to Burke as well as Ultimate Air Shuttle expanding at Burke:

Breeze seems interesting, but the article makes it sound as if the only flight from BKL initially will be to Providence?  I'll take any new destinations we can get, but I don't see too many people clamoring for that route.

I would use it!    I have a couple good friends in southern Mass.   I have flown into PVD before even with a connection, just due to proximity to their houses.

Would this be more convenient to Cape Cod/Nantucket etc. than flying into Logan?

We always  fly into Providence rather than Logan when going to the Cape.

An email forwarded to me from my travel agent yesterday.  This was United corporate talking to travel agents--not the general public.   Coronavirus is definitely affecting the economy en masse....

Is there a chance that the government intervenes and calls for essential airline travel only? I was traveling for work this week and I’m just frankly disgusted by being at an airport right now. Stuff like this heightens you’re awareness of human behavior and people are gross. I want now part of it.  Would love my company to send out a ban on any non essential travel, but we seem to be behind the times on that, as I know other companies have

America Airlines will not let me change or refund my 3/30 Cleveland-Chicago ticket since it was purchased non-refundable. Maybe I can work with my credit card company.

^ did you fill out the Refund information on AA.com?  You should be able to get a refund during March despite the ticket being non refundable.  They announced they will refund all travel in March...I wouldn’t give up on that

I talked to a customer service who said I wasn't eligible. I had already checked the website but will try again.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong page. By chance could you send the url?

Thanks!

Sometimes you just have to call American multiple times to get stuff done. I had to change flights during Harvey and I talked to like 3 different reps before I got a satisfactory answer and got my flights changed.

@TBideon

So actually I don’t see a full refund on domestic flights. I thought I had seen that and always beat them up until they give me it.  not sure when you purchased, But you should at least be able to delay with no change fee

I would call them and say you've been diagnosed with Corona virus, and is it ok if you take your flight?   Oh--and you know people in the media.    ?

I bought in early Feb. Looks like I will eat this one. Appreciate the response Believe.

Why not just let them go bankrupt?  They're not going to be flying at full capacity for another 6 months anyway.

Excellent points here in reference to another looming airline bailout.

Don’t Feel Sorry for the Airlines

Before providing them any assistance, we must demand that they change how they treat their customers and employees.

Yep. Airlines have been printing money for several years. Let them pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

I would not shed a tear if a certain airline went bankrupt.

People and things need to go out of business if we have any hope of people modifying their behavior.  If everyone knows they're too-big-to-fail (airlines like banks have been permitted to consolidate) they're going to get reckless during good times.

Agreed - we had two years in a row of record travel by plane and, after four down weeks airlines are already seeking a bailout.

That indicates to me that they've been fiscally irresponsible more than anything else.

I obviously don't want 750,000 out of work, but if one or two go belly up, the JetBlue, Frontier, Alaska, etc can step in and change the game

Let's give the bailout money directly to the people instead of the companies this time. Let people decide where to spend their stimulus checks. And generous unemployment benefits for the workers who are affected.

This is interesting. Delta is in the process of moving a large chunk of its fleet to Birmingham (BHM) and Marana (MZJ), where they will be stored until demand recovers.

In 2002 I drove near Andrews AFB in California and saw dozens upon dozens of airliners in storage after 9/11.  It was a peculiar sight.

And by a stroke of luck Boeing is now off the hook for needing to get all of those 737 Max planes back in the air.

And then what happened?

yes thats what i heard, that it could help boeing recover because the airlines will retire planes and later order new. that is, if they can hang on, airlines run on notoriously tight margins.

unfortunately for air travelers, with less routes and new planes, that will mean astronomical tickets and fees to come. it will be like the 1950s to mid-1970s again when air travel costs were prohibitive for most people.

Amtrak is getting $1 billion from the stimulus.

According to a WSJ news report Amtrak asked for $1.018 billion; so that's just what they wanted.

What goes up must come down.

Food and beverage service nixed for lights UNDER 4.5 hours.  There is definitely a component of this new policy for health and wellness--although there is certainly and underlying benefit for shareholders.   I can't help but wonder if once everything is back to normal that this will become the new normal for American and other big carriers.

It better not!  Although I wouldn't put it past them.  To me, it wouldn't save enough money to make up for the alienation of their frequent flyers.  If every carrier does it, though, I guess it's the "new normal."  I've got a feeling when everything is over, there will be a lot of "new normals."

Since we are not permitted to bring liquids through security, they better resume beverage service,.

This only works to an extent, my sister is a flight attendant and a union member, they have been fighting for weeks for the use of disposable gloves and mask to wear on the plane. The airline finally gave in on allowing employees to wear them, but they need to provide there own. She said even with no drink service, you still get rude entitled people who treat FA like sh*t because they arent doing beverage service beyond miniature bottles of water. She knows of multiple FA who are sick and even a couple who have died now from Coronavirus. You should see the little alcohol wipes they are providing the FAs to clean up areas of the plane, no bigger than a doctors office alcohol wipe before you receive a shot...

Shoot, my status expired in Feb, so I’m assuming this won’t help me. Oh well, I don’t have the pleasure of flying Delta that often anyway.

I did not realize that SLC is getting a massive renovation. When it's complete, it will basically be a brand new airport with none of the old structures remaining. (More renderings here.)

Also interesting that SLC is moving to a two-concourse layout while CVG's long term plans involve consolidating into a single concourse so they can shut down the train to save money.

Thank God.  That airport is trash.
