Posted April 15, 200817 yr Check out this company from Boston - WindowGain: http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/04/some_shopping_center_owners_wa.html In Cleveland this would look cool at 515 Euclid or the sides of the Higbee building.
April 15, 200817 yr I think it's a great idea for high traffic areas. Foot traffic right??...cuz I would probably crash my car the first time I'd drive past. ;)
April 15, 200817 yr I think it's brilliant. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 15, 200817 yr very cool idea if it isnt just used for a barrage of advertising. of course it would also have to be done in relatively secure buildings to prevent vandalism.
April 16, 200817 yr Please.....not more advertising. I guess that I am totally alone in the world on this, but I think that we are so bombarded with advertising that it is beyond crazy and sensory overload. Lighting up vacant storefronts would only add another dimension to the visual pollution we already endure. Lighted billboards, scrolling billboards, flashing billboards, entire buildings painted with ads, buses wrapped with ads, subway tunnels filled with ads, airports rammajammed with ads, enough is enough. The whole world doesn't have to be Times Square or the Ginza.
April 16, 200817 yr That is... really awesome! I'd like to say that it would be nice if it would be a mix of advertising and public notices/advertisments. I can see some real creative uses for this.
April 16, 200817 yr I think the best approach would be to save them for local events - as in, an empty storefront in downtown Cleveland pointing out events a few blocks away in whatever "entertainment" district. I think people feel bombarded by advertising when it's just stale corporate crap - but if they would see something that's pertinent to a current event, that makes a lot of difference. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 16, 200817 yr It's cool if they would promote C-land attractions and maybe even show some educational or historical clips, but I agree that we have way too many pop-ups in our daily life as it is. They could make this work, but limit the amount of advertisements.
April 16, 200817 yr Foot traffic right??...cuz I would probably crash my car the first time I'd drive past. ;) There's a billboard on the freeway in Milwaukee that is a giant TV, and the add simply says "The most common cause of traffic collisions is...DISTRACTIONS!!!!!" With the word "distractions" flashing different colors and bouncing around. I don't know who paid for it, but I think it's hilarious.
April 17, 200817 yr Looks pretty cool, but I could definitely see this getting out of hand. I can envision bum building owners using this as a method to generate revenue at their high traffic area without having to look for a tenant and worry about the lifespan of that particular tenant.
