If anybody is interested in learning more about a new volunteer ambassador program, in OTR, please contact me at [email protected] or by Personal Message.

I brought this up at the Merchants of Main meeting and it seemed to be well received.  I got into a side discussion with one of the owners who asked who we were targeting to volunteer.  It became an interesting exercise in going through the thought process of why different people would volunteer for this, where they were from and what the community as a whole would get out of it.  Initially he thought that current stakeholders, whether they be residents or people who worked down here would make the best Ambassadors but as we continued discussing it, people from outside of OTR who are perhaps students or anyone with a general interest in seeing this community turn around would not only be a benefit to us for getting out information, but it would also be a learning experience for them as well.  So if you are a student, a resident, a worker, or just someone who wants to see OTR be a safer, cleaner, and friendlier place, contact Randy or the Vitality Office at [email protected] and join this program.  We are trying to make it as easy, fun and flexible for any volunteers so you can commit as much or as little time as can.

Does anyone have any good contacts to get shirts printed up?

Bryan at Decal Impressions does shirts as well.

I was going to contact Bryan this week.  We just got pricing from OSO on Main and we would like to keep it in OTR if possible.

I'll be going to Decal Impressions tomorrow to pick up the streetcar bumper stickers.  I can ask him about pricing then if you would like...

I put a posting on Craigslist to recruit volunteers and generate interest....anybody scene it and then forwarded to your friends? (hint hint)  I think I am going to put another post under the "wanted" catergory.  The first was under "volunteers".

Chris,

That would be great if you could.  Ask him about lots of 50, 2 color on blue polo and Tshirts (anyone have a preference on the color of shirt?) Front and back printing, front will only be the Vitality Logo and the back will say OTR Volunteer Ambassador.

Also, I wanted to post this from Randy and Jeff Brandt who coordinated the explanation of the program.  This is the posting that Amber was referring to.

Background:

Over-the-Rhine residents and owners formed Vitality Over-the-Rhine (Vitality OTR) in 2006.  Our historic area is experiencing dramatic, positive change; Vitality OTR seeks to build upon this exciting progress.  For 2008, we are bringing together the residents, business owners, visitors, neighborhood organizations, and anyone who cares about Over-the-Rhine to (1) make immediate improvements in safety and cleanliness issues; (2) collect information from home, business, and condo owners on their long-term vision for Over-the-Rhine; and (3) seek funding to make that common vision a permanent reality.

You can help with that first goal by joining the Volunteer Ambassador Program and become an OTR Ambassador now.

Overview:

Where?

The boundaries of the Volunteer Ambassador Program are simply the boundaries of Over-the-Rhine.

When?

Volunteers are encouraged to engage in ambassador activities as often as possible.  But the program imposes no specific requirements for service.  Volunteers should simply wear their OTR Ambassador shirts whenever they are in Over-the-Rhine.  This could be for a night out on Main Street, some shopping at Findlay Market, or simply attending one of the many events that take place in the neighborhood (Midpoint Music Festival, Final Fridays, Second Sundays on Main, etc).

*If you are in need of service hours, Vitality OTR coordinartors will be able to certify the hours that you log as a Volunteer OTR Ambassador.

What?

Volunteer OTR Ambassadors will be asked to be one thing---a visible representative for Over-the-Rhine.  You will be provided with materials so that you can offer directions, recommendations, or advice to someone looking for assistance.  Simply put on your Volunteer OTR Ambassador shirt and a smile, and then do what you normally do in Over-the-Rhine, including shopping, eating, or just walking around.

Why?

Over-the-Rhine is experiencing a renaissance.  Our residents, businesses, and visitors are looking for ways to ensure that current progress is maintained for the long term.  As Volunteer OTR Ambassadors, you will both see and be seen.  Not only will you be the mobile "eyes on the street" (that statistics show go a long way to improving an area) but also someone that may be approached for information or help.  This is your chance to be a part of something special that is going on in Over-the-Rhine.

I've created a new web button that can be hyperlinked to the informational pdf.  If you have a website and would like to display it then please copy/paste the following html code somewhere on your website:

<a href="http://over-the-rhine-sid.googlegroups.com/web/Ambassador%20Information%20Sheet.pdf?gda=F9WINlEAAABwzbmTKuu7cnlYfSpu71PvtUsrklIIjN_NmSht3T_AImG1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDTR7p5lth5E8bgmIqgP-EC0q_8s1Cw8YEtD9_MDMmQD0eZKMvI7X4xQZrqClwsdFDQ" target="new"><img alt="Volunteer Ambassador Sign-up" src="http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e33/UncleRando/avatars/VitalityOTR_onlinebutton_white.jpg"/></a>

It has a basic white background, but can easily be modified to whatever color you may want that looks good on your site.  Just let me know if you would like a specific change for your particular website.

Here is the version I have on my website - UrbanCincy.com.

If you would like to be included in this first roll out of Volunteer Ambassadors you need to contact [email protected] immediately so that you are included with soon to be released information regarding when/where to pick up your related materials (i.e. t-shirt, maps, contact list).

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This weekend we should see the first volunteer amb. shirts on the streets of OTR at both Final Friday and the OTR 5K.  Our volunteer numbers right now are approx. 40 and we still have shirts available for anyone interested.

Next meet and greet for the ambassadors will be Thurs. June 6th 6:30 at Mr. Pitifuls on Main.  If anyone would like to join up, get a free shirt and support the community, just walk through the door.

Ambassador shirts were spotted today at the OTR 5K and at Findlay Market.

Also, new Facebook page for the program

Here is a picture of the ambassadors (MrsAWeeks and myself) following the GoOTR 5k.

There are nearly 40 people signed up for the Volunteer Ambassador program.  These people are residents and business owners in OTR, students at UC and XU, Downtown residents, Art Academy students, and much more.

This program is bringing together a diverse collection of people that are all dedicated to improving Over-the-Rhine.  If you do not participate, in this program, be sure to stop and thank an ambassador if you see them.  These are all volunteers and they deserve every piece of recognition they get.  Thanks.

Thanks captain eye-spy.  I tagged him, in that photo, on Facebook.  :-D  He worked up quite a sweat...I guess that's what happens when you actually run a 5k in that muggy weather.

Gotmy shirt thanks Michael! Only problem is now I have to decide which shirt to wear, Vitality or streetcar??  :-D

As hot as it will be this week, you can wear one to wherever you are going, and the other on the way home.....just a thought!  Are you coming Thursday night?

Amber thinks of everything.  I spoke to Dan at Park & Vine today and he will be putting up 3 mannequins with Vitality Shirts on each in the window just north of the store(another Amber idea).  I would like to get a store front on Main and anywhere else dotted around OTR with something similar.  We will also try and use these locations to distribute the shirts for us as well giving multiple locations a volunteer will be able to go to join and get outfitted.

26 members so far on the facebook group site for the ambassadors and our numbers of total volunteers are now approaching 50.

We are doing the OTR question of the day which will be posted on the wall (todays question is for the die hard OTR fan) and whoever answers first, gets various OTR prizes.  You can post a question yourself.  This will hopefully make for a fun way to learn various facts about OTR and we will also be doing an OTR scavenger hunt in the upcoming month to help volunteers both identify sites and people.

We plan on attending tonight.  :)  We'll see you there.

I'll be there...I'm already sporting my t-shirt around OTR as I am inside Coffee Emporium right now.  :-D

Bring a camera tonight so we can document the event and post pics on the facebook page.  Randy, it is supposed to be HOT today.  I hope you have an extra shirt to throw on tonight! Seriously, we will need to rehydrate after the walk there.  Good thing we are meeting at Mr. Pitifuls.

Well I'll be inside for the entire day (at school)...so I'll be fine.  I am planning on heading down to Game 6 of the Kelly Cup Finals tonight after the meeting (might have to cut out a little early).  Cyclones are gonna win the championship tonight!!!

Amber has started a great thread on the group site "What does it matter we do this? Why are you involved?".

It will be interesting to see the different reasons that each person feels that this is important, especially the non residence.  The Facebook Group is now at 30 and there are some big names on there plus our volunteer totals are right at 50.  Take a look at the Group "WALL" daily for the OTR question of the day (some are tough ones) and you too can post questions and play "Stump Vitality" and if you can stump us, you win an OTR related prize.

Tonight if anyone wants to bring anyone else, a friend, another potential volunteer, your mom, I don't care, just show up and lets kick around some ideas and get to know one another.  See you all tonight, June 5th, 6:30 at MR. PITIFULS.

I now recall seeing you sporting said shirt...lounging in a comfy chair in the corner. very stylish.

You should have come over and introduced yourself...maybe next time.
