Quit thinking it's cool to be old MTS.

What was Yesterdays? A restaurant?

I kept the front page from the PD when the SOHIO building was topped off. It had a picture of a construction worker mounting the American flag on top. I wish I could find that damn paper.

It is cool to be older.  MayDay and FloridaGuy (looking for his paper) have forgotten more than you'll ever know.

Scotto's Pizza was awesome.  The one at Euclid Square Mall, along with the kickass 1970's Burger King there are very fond images.

I also remember the old McDonald's on the other side of the Euclid Avenue Old Arcade entrance.  Or it may have been in the next building over.  Even as a 6 year old kid I liked the old worn down restaurants.

It was all about Mr. Hero's and Scotto's.  The corner was a fast food nightmare.  Burger King, Wendy's, Mr. Hero & McDonalds.  At one point there might have been an Arthur Treachers  street level along with the one inside the Arcade or was it Arby's?

I think it was a building over. They had a wall with pictures of Downtown, the Flats, etc. The larger one on Euclid was at playhouse square and had a giant chandler. Although I would never go in there again after seeing a roach the size of a small dog scurry across the floor.  :-o

Think it was Arby's.

ahhhh.  I love these trips down memory lane

I love the picture of the traveler's shoppe, mainly because all it's letters are intact.  :)  But seriously has there EVER been a tennant in the "Office Resource Center" there?  I mean that place looks as dead and vacant in the 80's as it has for the last 6 years now.  There's some law firm sign falling off on the 13th street side of the building, but jeez.  I was told not long ago after that crain's article came out on Traveler's leaving that, those two fronts are actually the same building, and long ago, someone actually put that ridiculous gravel facade on travelers.  I had heard that they want to pull that facade down and restore the builind, and then the other day walking down Euclid, I saw an architect / construction manager type walking around the building with a set of prints and a group of "civillians". He kept pointing at stuff on the building and talking and they kept oohing and ahhing while looking at the prints.  Should be interesting.

I miss the Hanna Fountains.

I miss the Hanna Fountains.

what happened the them?  (excuse my poor abililty to figure out what is there now...I am sure it is obvious)

^They were on Mall B; torn out for the last Convention Center modernization in the 80s some time.  I think they had major leak/mechanical issues, but they look so cool in that old photo...  I wonder what they did with all that granite.

That shot was taken shortly after the Cowell & Hubbard jewelry store closed. The frames in the windows were the original jewelry displays.

Barneyboy, were you a photographer for Ohio Magazine?

I didn't personally take that shot of the Sohio bldg., but yes, it did eventually appear in Ohio Magazine. I've been a graphic designer for many years and have been given lots of pictures, (a lot them just crap), but I just figured it was of the same vintage of the rest of mine, so I just added it in the post.

What was Yesterdays? A restaurant?

It was a fairly decent restaurant in the lobby soon after they stopped showing Lazerium shows (lazer light shows set to rock music). I once went to one featuring Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Thinking back, it was a bit of a rip-off, but it helped keep the place going.

As always, great photos which are bringing back more great memories.

I remember taking the Goodtime up the river in 1981 and seeing the shell of the Powerhouse. This was before it was cleaned up and lit at night. Back then there were piles of old tires and construction debris dumped "inside" the walls. Talk about coming a long way -- boy this city sure has taken a turn for the bad...BS!

Um, he's my age. And you're going to be 40 much more quickly than you're ready for. Translation: You will be soon be just like us, and you'll have some youngin' ragging on you for being able to draw on experiences that this little chap doesn't have yet.

We are your future, and you are our past. So talk nicely to your elders or you won't last!

That recalls a favorite scene of mine from Harlem Nights between Eddie Murphy and Della Reese

SassyPants I love your name.  LMAO!

How old is MTS?  Recently his agent called and said that although he did well at the audition, he was too old for the Viagra commercial.

I'm a proud 42!  Trust, I'll NEVA need Viagra or any other aide for those types of issues - everything works fine on this body!

Those were the good old day...

Thanks much Two! Despite repeated lazerings it has stuck with me since high school

I really like that corner building on the Huron Road shot..is that still standing?

(also, note the clunky old cars...i think I see a Chevy Vega in one of the pix)

Everything in that shot is still there (except the phone booth)

Yeah it's all bars now.

The Osborne Bldg. may be difficult to recognize to some because they scraped the blue paint off when it was turned into apartments.

The configuration of the west end of Huron Rd. has changed too, with a landscaped plaza, which is a huge improvement over this. This space could potentionally change again if anything of what we saw in the future plans for the Ameritrust site comes to fruition.

Fantastic!

  I'm laughing just thinking about that scene.  I heard an audio of that scene, edited of course, on the radio the other day; none the less still funny as hell!

Great old pics of Cleveland.
