Very nice photos of a charming little town.  Have never been there, but every picture I've seen is very inviting.  Must be the French influence.  I like the old fashioned street lighting--simple yet effective.  The courthouse is bad, but there are worse, and they did have a budget to consider.  Looks kind of like a home for the aged poor, rather than the focal point of a county.  Love the little park with the gazebo.

All those little burgs along the river ooze charm (although it may be covered with a hundred years of soot) and have many hidden treasures.

Pretty nice-looking downtown, nice & tidy.

If my memory is correct, it's been just over forty years since the Silver Bridge collapsed, probably the greatest tragedy in a lot of residents' memory.

This hamlet pleases me.

R.I.P. Bob.

A great city for its size (a little over 2,000?). The courthouse burned in the late 1980s, I believe, but its replacement was horrible.

Is that a 12 foot tall mannish looking moth across the river?  Those West Virginians had better lay off the inebriates.

Looks like Downtown has survived better than many.  It's surprising to see so many occupied storefronts.

Great shots, looks like a well kept town.

Thanks!

Passing thru to West Virginia last week, I noticed that one of the gaps on the main drag (directly across from the park) is being infilled. The design is rather odd, but I guess it is good to (mostly) fill the hole.

Pretty amazing that it is even happening.

My dad's side of the family has lived in Gallipolis since its founding in 1790 and I always enjoy visiting because it's the only place where people know how to pronounce my last name correctly, lol.

I highly recommend visiting when the "Gallipolis in Lights" is going on during the holiday season.

^I've been in Gallipolis in the evening during the holidays. The square looks great with lots of people walking around.
