July 30, 200915 yr I get all my reality doses via The Soup. Frankly, I wouldn't even know that 90% of these shows existed if not for that show. You mean to tell me you guys don't watch The Real Housewives of (x city)? they are all a hot mess. NYC Prep? the most boring closeted kids on the planet Kathy Griffin's life on the D list . Her mother is a hoot! Top Chef. Amazing Flip that house. Anything on HGTV Extreme makeover home edition. I'm practically in tears at the end of each episode.
July 30, 200915 yr ^The only reason I know about "John and Kate Plus 8" is because I work in the news industry, and we constantly did stories on them. If I had any other job, I would have never heard of it, and it was the biggest thing since sliced Kraft Singles. And every bit as good for you.
July 30, 200915 yr Their last big song was in 1990. She turned nine that year. I couldn't name the lead singer of the bands that first hit when I was five and stopped when I was nine. Not even then. I hear you. My wife is only 4 years younger than me and I still had to explain to her what "Spinal Tap" was. This discussion of course arose from me spontaneously singing 'Big Bottoms' one sunny afternoon. My wife is older than I am but I had to explain who Spinal Tap was the other day when she asked why one of Laverne and Shirley's neighbors was singing on the Colbert Report. I get all my reality doses via The Soup. Frankly, I wouldn't even know that 90% of these shows existed if not for that show. Agreed, I love Joel McHale. You mean to tell me you guys don't watch Top Chef. Amazing Easily my favorite reality show, though I'm not liking the 'Top Chef Masters' they're doing this year.
July 30, 200915 yr Easily my favorite reality show, though I'm not liking the 'Top Chef Masters' they're doing this year. I can't get into TC Masters either. that chick annoys me. I forgot to add Iron Chef.

My wife is into House Hunters and Property Virgins right now, so I'll watch with her occassionally, but even that is running it's course. Every once in a while I'll watch Deadliest Catch or Ice Road Truckers, but not on a consistent basis. I'm much more likely to be watching whatever movie they're replaying on FX that night. "OH look...The Mummy is on...again!!"

"OH look...The Mummy is on...again!!" Property virgins is pretty good. the first 48 is cool as well. the deadliest catch is addictive. what do you think about man-vs-wild? Speaking of addictions, I love my trashy reality TV as well, I love intervention. That show is a hot hot mess made with two week old fish grease! oh and the show 18 kids and counting, those people are just crazy, I'm surprised that woman's uterus hasn't gone on strike or fallen out of her body.
July 31, 200915 yr I've never rented a movie and haven't been to a movie theater in about 3 years. I've never owned a TV either and have gone a year without watching TV several times. It's always odd when you see it again, because your eyes actually have to get used to it, and everything's happening really fast. When I was a kid, I remember seeing E.T. and Return of the Jedi in a theater, Top Gun and Risky Business at a drive-in, and against my will was drug to Home Alone the night it came out. To date that's still the only movie I saw on opening night. That's pretty much it, I think I've only saw those 5 movies total in a movie theater or drive-in as a kid, and have probably only been to a movie theater 10 times as an adult. Also, we were the last people on our street to get a VCR. I remember a kid who watched Pee-Wee's Big Adventure every single day after school until his parents came home, day after day, month after month. I was always way more into music, I've been to hundreds of concerts.
July 31, 200915 yr I'm with Jake on this one. I haven't turned on my TV since the election in November. There's too much real life to experience right outside my house.
July 31, 200915 yr Add me to the list. I unplugged my TV more than two years ago. Since broadcast TV went digital, I no longer own a working TV. Not only do I not miss it, but I find it annoying when I'm confronted with it in a public place.

Nothing like Intervention to make you feel good about your self and bad for those poor people. I basically watch TV because my wife watches TV...So a big dose of reality TV. if she is not home at night I will probably only turn the TV on for the Daily Show or the Soup. Ditto what MTS said about 18 and counting. However although they seem a little weird overall they seem to be a nice family that functions pretty well. Now I have watched the Jon and Kate train wreck since it went on the air. As a parent you couldn't help put be fascinated what it would be like to take care of that many kids. They probably would have stayed together with out the the Cameras, she was overbearing and he was a slacker but it seemed to work for them. Somewhere around the second season it went from the cameras documenting their life to a Production. Let's send them and lets have this happen. And that through them out of balance.
July 31, 200915 yr Life on the D List Hell's Kitchen No Reservations Deadliest Catch That's it. I love hell's kitchen! The only job in america where you can go to work and cuss every out and its OK LOL [speaking of addictions, I love my trashy reality TV as well, I love intervention. I basically watch TV because my wife watches TV...So a big dose of reality TV. the sad thing about those people is they all had opportunities. Most come from a classic family or has a family close enough that cares. My cousin always teases me and a says "Can you see us on that show? You and your shopping and us pleading with you to stop."
July 31, 200915 yr Did you see the one about the homeless crack addict that had been a world class cyclist? Got kicked out of the US program because he got into a fight with Lance Armstrong (who has issues of his own, personality wise. Personally I think he is a prick, but one hell of an athlete). Sad. This kid could of had it all, living the dream even if he didn't strike it rich.

What about the shopaholic in Bev Hills? My heart went out to her. However, when you make 20k a year and spend 50k, you've got issues. I was pissed that she opened credit in her mothers name. A mother on a fixed income, who the creditors came after.
July 31, 200915 yr I was always way more into music, I've been to hundreds of concerts. I'm weird, I'm not really into music at all. I haven't been to a concert since high school (and only then because a girl I liked was going to be there), very rarely listen to the radio, and haven't bought music in any form for about a decade. I don't get why people are attracted to music.

I don't get why people are attracted to music. Did your parents listen to music when you are kid? It seems that everybody that I know that are disinterested in music either grew up in households where they never heard music or they had major ear problems as a kid. It seems like it is one of those developmental sequence things that if you miss it, your brain just doesn't make the connection. The flipside of that was my friend growing up that was disintrested in discovering any new music, he had 2 or 3 tapes that he listened to constantly and that was it. And this was over a period of more than 5 years. It got old very quickly... :-D

I don't get why people are attracted to music. My father is that way. I've never seen him listen to so much as one piece of music, ever. When I was a kid, when we bought a car, he insisted that they take out whatever car stereo was in there and replace it with an AM radio only. He wasn't going to pay for anything extra. He'll read 3-4 newspapers cover to cover every day, though. As a kid, he'd sit in the kitchen reading a paper, while the rest of us were watching TV. He's started watching a little more TV in his old age, mostly A&E mystery programs. Everyone's different.

July 31, 200915 yr The only time i really watch tv is late at night before going to sleep. I work 2 jobs, an 8-5 during the week and then a 12 or 3pm till phase shift at a restaurant on Saturdays, so any time im home when the sun is out i try to get outside. Then throw in hockey, soccer, and softball 4 nights a week in the summer and 2 nights a week in the winter when the earliest im home is usually 9pm and could be as late as 1am, I just dont have the time to waste sitting in front of a tv. Family Guy, South Park, Seinfeld, The Office, The First 48, Intervention, Food Channel, food shows on the Travel Channel, History and Discovery channels are what ill usually watch when i turn the tv on, but rarely will i get to watch a full show of anything. The Soup might be the best show to ever come on tv also. I dont understand the fascination with shows like the Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, and other shows with the whole "voting off" system. American Idol has got to go, along with every other dope that watches it. If I'm out at the bar or at dinner i DO NOT want to be talking about how bad Kate has it now that Jon divorced and how sorry you feel for her. That is not my life nore is it yours, so please dont speak like you personally know her and are her personal advisor. Im amazed at how much our country actually feels a part of these reality shows and the families that are in them too. My dad works crazy shifts at his work, but i swear that guy can sit in front of the tv and watch episode after episode of CSI: Las Vegas, Miami, Barcelona, Lost City of Atlantis, however many different cities they have now, its unreal.
