April 25, 200817 yr Nice photos as always, Ink. Mount Vernon appears to have saved much of its early architecture and there are examples there from the early 1800's Federal Style to the 1950's. The little white frame "Gothic" storefront, if original, is a rare treat. The gable brace with scroll-sawn ornament closely resembles one featured in a planbook by A.J. Bicknell in the 1870's. There are some nice mansard-roofed Second Empires as well. I'll have to put Mt. Vernon on my intinerary for a future visit. Thanks for the visual treat. John S.
April 25, 200817 yr A great, intact all-American (whatever that means) town. Even better if it is accompanied by a visit to nearby Gambier, home of the 2nd most expensive college in the world, Hogwarts (that's a comparison of the interiors of the classrooms to those in Harry Potter).
April 26, 200817 yr They have a beautiful little opera palace there. Nice shots of a great town. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
April 27, 200817 yr What a surprise. I had no idea that Mt Vernon was even remotely interesting, let alone picturesque. Looks almost Southern, with the Vicorians, Civil War memorial etc. Another great Ohio small town. You are the best at capturing the certain something. Haven't been back to Ohio in years, but feel like I know it better now that ever!
