April 29, 200916 yr I call it low ball because Ford offered a 109k buyout early last year. 17k will not last more than 4 months. Well considering they will get a full year salary, plus a lump sum of 17k, plus 1k for each year of service, for some that could be more than 109k.
April 29, 200916 yr Yes, that sounds like a good deal. P&G's packages are typically 1 year salary alone.

June 24, 200915 yr Honda's buyouts hit mark Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 2:59 AM By Dan Gearino, The Columbus Dispatch Honda's first employee buyout is complete, and participation was high enough that the company has no plans for a second round of offers, a spokesman said yesterday. The automaker made the offer in March, the first of its type in company history. Honda is trying to reduce its work force as it endures the greatest sales slump in generations. "This market is just deader than a doornail, still," said Art Spinella, president of CNW Marketing Research in Bandon, Ore., a company that monitors the auto industry. August 15, 200915 yr Honda to increase production shifts Business First of Columbus Friday, August 14, 2009, 3:51pm EDT Weekend work will resume at Honda’s East Liberty auto plant. Marysville-based Honda of America Manufacturing Inc. said Saturday shifts will return to its production calendar in September and run possibly through then end of the year. Improving market conditions are driving the added work days, spokesman Ron Lietzke said. This is the first addition to the work schedule since last fall, when the automaker cut overtime and Saturday shifts from the schedule. Honda also had removed some regular production days from the schedule at all of its North American facilities. Workers at East Liberty assemble the CR-V crossover, which, along with the Civic were Honda’s only two vehicles whose July 2009 sales topped July 2008 sales. The plant also manufactures the Element sport-utility vehicle. Lietzke said inventory levels of both the CR-V and Element need to be increased. He said there are no plans to add weekend work at the Marysville plant, which primarily builds the Accord sedan and coupe, the Acura TL sedan and Acura RDX sport-utility vehicle. November 2, 200915 yr Honda to build new Accord at East Liberty Honda’s Ohio operations build Accords and the CR-V crossover vehicle, so it’s only natural that it’d also be the birthplace of the new Accord Crosstour. Honda of America Manufacturing Inc., the automaker’s Marysville-based manufacturing arm, confirmed Thursday the new vehicle, a crossover utility vehicle built on the Accord platform, will be assembled at its East Liberty plant, where the CR-V and Element sport utility vehicle are made. The Accord is manufactured at Honda’s Marysville plant along with the Acura TL and RDX. Honda also reiterated its plans to convert its motorcycle production facility, the company’s first manufacturing foray into the state, into a parts consolidation center to make production more efficient, and announced updates to the 2010 CR-V, which includes styling changes to the grille and bumpers, upgraded technology options and an improved engine.
November 2, 200915 yr Honda researchers make advances in nanotechnology American Honda Motors' central Ohio-based research institute may have discovered a new way to conduct electricity - though it takes a microscope to see it. Research led by Honda Research Institute USA, Inc., in conjunction with other researchers, was published in the Oct. 2 edition of Science magazine detailing the company's work with microscopic carbon nanotubes, which are 100,000 times thinner than a human hair and may have the potential to transport electricity faster and over greater distances with minimal loss of energy, according to company spokesman David Iida. Located on Kinnear Road in Columbus, Honda Research Institute USA worked in conjunction with researchers at Purdue University and the University of Louisville on the nanotechnology research. Honda has worked in the field for about a decade, according to Iida, achieving a success rate of 91-percent metallic conductivity.

November 3, 200915 yr it would depend on the resistance of the material that is transporting the electricity. Carbon, I believe, has a low resistance factor; addtionally these nanotubes are extremlly strong.

January 12, 201015 yr More than 4 of 5 Hondas, Acuras sold in U.S. were built in North America Sunday, January 10, 2010 - 11:31 PM By Dan Gearino THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH A record 84 percent of Honda's U.S. sales last year were vehicles assembled in North America, the company said late last week. If the results can be maintained in a year with more-normal sales than the horrid numbers posted last year, it will be good news for Honda's two Ohio plants, which account for about 45 percent of North American production. Honda sold 1.15 million Honda- and Acura-brand vehicles in the U.S. last year. Of that total, 960,000 were assembled in North America, a share that was by far the largest of any foreign-based automaker, the company said. The two Ohio plants, in Marysville and East Liberty, assembled 463,596 vehicles, although not all of them were sold in the U.S. Some models, such as the Acura TL sedan, were made for both U.S. sales and export. Honda has four other plant locations in North America: in Greensburg, Ind.; Lincoln, Ala.; Alliston, Ontario, in Canada; and El Salto, Mexico. The company's 2009 U.S. sales were down 20 percent from the previous year; the industry's U.S. sales dropped 21 percent. Notably, Honda leapfrogged Chrysler to take over fourth place in U.S. vehicle sales, behind General Motors, Toyota and Ford. In the previous year, Honda was just short of Chrysler's total. Community leaders and Honda representatives recognized the plant's 20-year milestone in December. In the last two decades, the plant has produced more than 13.7 million automobiles. Production at the the 1.9-million-square-foot facility (located at 11000 OH Route 347) first began on Dec. 18, 1989. Construction crews broke ground on the $380-million project in 1988. The Acura CL was produced from 1995 to 1999, while the Honda Element (2002), Honda CR-V (2006) and the Accord Crosstour (2009) are still being produced. April 25, 201114 yr No layoffs, but quake slows Honda's production in Ohio Sunday, April 24, 2011 By Dan Gearino, THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH MARYSVILLE, Ohio - The March 11 earthquake in Japan might as well have occurred next door to the cluster of auto-assembly plants and suppliers northwest of Columbus. In this landscape of small towns and cornfields, Honda is the largest employer, and Honda is hurting. Starting late last month, the company cut back to half-shifts because of an interruption of parts shipments from Japan. For now, the Tokyo-based automaker is giving workers the option to get paid for full shifts by doing extra training or cleaning in the afternoons. Workers and community leaders wonder how long this can last before the crisis overseas begins to put a dent in paychecks here. The second is construction of a new employee entrance, new lobby entrance and activity center at the south end of the same facility. That part of the project carries a $10 million price tag. The East Liberty plant makes the CR-V. A redesigned version of the vehicle begins mass production this week and will arrive at dealers in mid-December. August 23, 201311 yr Here Honda grows again... Honda investing another $215M in Ohio operations By Dan Eaton, Staff reporter Business First - August 8, 2013, 10:36am EDT Honda Motor Co. is upping its recent Ohio investments by another $215 million. The automaker Wednesday announced another round of upgrades and new construction at facilities in the state, including the addition of new powertrain technology and a technical training center at the Anna Engine Plant and a new 160,000-square-foot building in Marysville that will be home to new office space for Honda North America Services LLC, a new entity housing some jobs and functions relocating from California. It will have about 500 employees, Honda said. (. . .) Honda will have invested almost $2.7 billion in its North American operations, more than $1 billion of which will be in Ohio, in the last three years counting the new projects. Many of the production improvements have been necessary as North America takes on greater duties in Honda’s global operations both by producing more vehicles for sale in the North American market and by exporting more cars and light trucks. Honda’s operations here sent more than 90,000 vehicles to other countries in 2012, a figure expected to climb to 200,000 annually in the coming years. Parts exports are expected to increase 70 percent this year as well, according to information from the company. Nobody wants crossovers once they are 5 years old/over 100,000 miles. Only female customers like crossovers and women despise cars that have any chance of leaving them stranded, so old complex vehicles are out. Besides trucks and sports cars/sedans/coupes, demand for today's vehicles is going to be very low in a few years.
March 16, 20178 yr My girlfriend bought a new CR-V. She essentially just bought it because it was the best selling SUV and has a good reputation. I think a lot of people do that and it becomes a self-fulling prophecy. It's a reliable car but for $30k I thought it would be a little more glamorous and have more bells and whistles. I was sort of surprised by how cheap the interior looks.
March 16, 20178 yr When you market cars to women, it's clear you can't do insulting things like include perfume dispensers or paint random parts pink. Instead, you have to tell them how popular and safe it is once it has already been in a crash. Regular cars don't crash as easily since they handle and brake better -- but there's no statistics regarding cars that never crashed. Even if you add tech to an SUV to make it less likely to crash, the cars get the tech too and you're back to square one.
