My wife is threatening to furnish our house with Ikea when we move to Cincinnati this summer. (I like the prices, but tend to dislike the Ikea style.)

Does anyone have good suggestions for an Ikea alternative in Cincinnati? Some place that sells quasi-reasonably priced furniture made out of something better than particle board?

That being said, one way or another, I'm sure I will become very familiar with the Ikea store in the next few months. Plastic lampshades here I come!!

I'm not overly informed on the subject of home furnishing, but it seems like there are 2 main clusters of furniture/home stores in Cincinnati.  The first is Kenwood which has West Elm, Restoration Hardware, Williams and Sonoma Home, Container Store, Pottery Barn, and Crate and Barrel will soon be there too.  The other is Oakley which has the aforementioned Voltage, and some other fairly contemporary places around there.

^There is also a growing number of places in the Gateway Quarter including: Metronation, Lucky Step, Park + Vine (a few selected items), and Outside.

Williams and Sonoma Home is like the anti-IKEA. Everything is classic and gorgeous, with the most absurd prices you've ever seen. When we got to that store, we had a "race" to see who could find a $100+ throw pillow. We both succeeded in less than 30 seconds.

Try Bova. The stuff is real wood!

Some female friends and I went to Smokey Bones to watch the Cavs game and we went past the IKEA. It looks tacky! (like the rest of West Chester). They said they went there specifically to eat. Apparently the cafeteria is great and has a lot of food. I think they said they had fajita burritos or some other elaborate type of food. Im anxious to go now. It seems like there's a whole city inside the place.

Actually a small planet with a separate species of humans . . .

Don't forget Monroe with Trader's World! ;)

Well ... I finally went to our IKEA for the first time. It was packed, I spent about $300 more than I planned, and I am glad we don't have that sea of parking anywhere near the city. Glad it's in our metro though! ;)

^Definitely.  This is one case where I was glad to hear that they were building something in Mason and not in "the city".

It took about 7 months but i finally was able to get inside this place. Me and my mom went in looking for some chairs. The way the store is setup, they have you walking through just about every department before you are able to reach the exit. I thought that was awesome, But if you don't like walking you wouldn't like that. lol

The miniature(apartments?) are awesome for a single guy. It wouldn't work for a family. A person could spends days in that place because there is just so much to see. Even after 7 months of it being open. It's outer chaos. All lanes were jammed packed with people. Ikea must have hit a gold mine.
