August 26, 200717 yr Alright, I am going to get on topic by getting off topic. It's amazing how people love this place. We had friends in from Columbus for the Cincy Masters, and they were saying how fired up people are to have one fairly close. This is going to be a major draw.

We had friends in from Columbus for the Cincy Masters, and they were saying how fired up people are to have one fairly close. This is going to be a major draw. Very true...it's a zoo inside these places. I was at the IKEA here in Atlanta again this weekend...doing some price gauging and what not for when the Cincinnati IKEA opens. There looks to be this great leather couch (super comfy) for $699. I was at this furniture store later that day and saw an almost identical couch for $1300. I'll take that bargain any day (unless it's from an American big-box).
August 26, 200717 yr you can also get coffee for 75c, the only place that beats ikea for coffee prices is madison's at findlay market for 50c. But with madisons, it is locally roasted

Although this is technically a big-box it still has a cetain cachet.
August 28, 200717 yr Drove past there yesterday and they are putting up the blue siding. I'll be over the tonight, so I'll snap a picture or two. I was so excited when saw the blue going up!
August 28, 200717 yr I went to Ikea two weeks ago in Frisco, Texas. It was slammed with people and there was a line out the door for free daycare. If you have never been to Frisco, Texas you must visit to see sprawl gone mad. I have never seen sprawl in that extreme ever. The entire town looks like it is only 5 years old, the shopping centers and strip malls never ended. Let me put it this way... the stores started repeating themselves. That is right, you would see a Kroger and Kohls followed by every other strip mall store and fast food joint and 3 miles down the road they started over again. UNREAL!
September 19, 200717 yr Ikea on pace for spring opening BY MIKE BOYER | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER September 18, 2007 WEST CHESTER – Fourth months after breaking ground, construction of Ikea's first Ohio store here off Union Centre Boulevard is on schedule for opening next spring. The bright blue panels have begun enclosing the iconic home furnishing retailer’s 344,000-square-foot store on a 56-acre parcel at Allen and Muhlhauser Roads. Construction of the two-story ikea store with on-site warehouse, showrooms, offices and 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs and lingonberries, won’t be completed until year-end, weather-permitting, said Joseph Roth, Ikea spokesman. Then begins a two-to-three month “build-out” period during which the store will be stocked, 50 different showroom settings installed and amenities, such as the supervised children’s play area, completed.
September 19, 200717 yr I's WAY over the enquirer having a boner for "meatballs and lingonberries" EVERY ARTICLE
September 19, 200717 yr ^ LOL. Or how about the way they work the word "confluence" into every single article about the Ovation project? They're not the most creative bunch.

That is right, you would see a Kroger and Kohls followed by every other strip mall store and fast food joint and 3 miles down the road they started over again. UNREAL! What brought you to Frisco? Are you familiar with the DFW area? I moved to a neighboring mega sprawl suburb of Frisco called Plano in December of 2003. I was 17 and lived there for about 9 months, until I went off to college. The suburbs north of Dallas are the epitome of sprawl. Frisco is basically just a newer Plano and your estimate of it being about 5 years old is pretty accurate. In 2000 Frisco's population was 33,000 and a 2006 census population estimate for the city is 88,000. As for Plano, In 1980 the population was 72,000, in 1990 it was 128,000 and the 2006 census estimate has the population at 266,000. Contrast that with Mason, which had a 2000 census propulation of 22,000 and West Chester (45069) at 43,000.
September 20, 200717 yr ^West Chester Twp is at around 53,000 now; I believe they are estimated to peak around 80,000 by 2020 when they'll be out of land.
September 20, 200717 yr ^West Chester Twp is at around 53,000 now; I believe they are estimated to peak around 80,000 by 2020 when they'll be out of land. We'll see come 2010. It will be interesting to see how Census counts these suburban areas which have seen a lot of single-family home construction over the past five years. Many of these homes are sitting vacant, and I'll personally be interested to seeing the hard-counts of these areas over their projection models which simply don't account for the bursting of the housing bubble that we've seen.
September 20, 200717 yr Sibcy Cline has 640 West Chester Twp properties listed...but that includes commercial and vacant lots.
September 20, 200717 yr ^How many is many? Do you have any actual numbers? Take a drive around some of these new subdivisions...have a look for yourself. I never claimed to have actual numbers...actually I was more so curious to find out what the actual numbers are when the 2010 Census hard count comes out. On a side note, I would appreciate it if you quit hounding me all the time.
September 20, 200717 yr Randy, are you paranoid? I'm just curious! Besides, your posts always leave me thinking of more questions. Take it as a compliment!
September 20, 200717 yr Randy, are you paranoid? I'm just curious! Besides, your posts always leave me thinking of more questions. Take it as a compliment! I must be...and you must be the ONLY person around that I have that problem with. I guess your comments towards me were not meant to be condescending but rather complimentary...and for that I must say thanks. It is great to have such a fan like yourself...I'm truly honored.
September 20, 200717 yr .....but rather complimentary...and for that I must say thanks. It is great to have such a fan like yourself...I'm truly honored. Finally! Something we can agree on!! Actually, I do have a lot of respect for some of the ideas you have shared here on UO. I know I have laughed at some of them which seem so "off the wall", but at least you are thinking! I will try to go easier on you in the future.

October 1, 200717 yr Idea of Ikea thrills fans Still months away, excitement rises for opening day BY LAUREN BISHOP | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER October 1, 2007 WEST CHESTER TWP. - To many drivers speeding by, the big, cobalt blue-walled building on the west side of Interstate 75 in West Chester Township probably looks like just another chain store cropping up on a rapidly developing parcel that once produced corn. But to 38-year-old graphic designer Jen Segrest of Middletown, it's not just another chain. It represents Ohio's first Ikea, the Swedish-based, modestly priced home products retailer that's provided nearly everything that Segrest and her husband sit on, put their clothes in, drink out of and cook with. Ikea's the store that inspired Segrest three years ago to start a Web site, www.ohikea.com, devoted to reporting any and all rumors that Ikea might build a store in the Buckeye State - rumors that turned out to be true. ABOUT IKEA Founded: In 1943 in Sweden by Ingvar Kamprad. The name Ikea comes from his first and last initials; E from Elmtaryd, the farm where he grew up; and A from Agunnaryd, the name of the parish where the farm was located. Business philosophy: To offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishings at prices so low that as many people as possible can afford them. Merchandise: 10,000 exclusively designed products, including sofas, bookcases, kitchens, appliances, beds and office furniture. Stores: 255 in 35 countries, including 31 in the United States. The closest store to Cincinnati is in Canton, Mich. Employees: 105,000 worldwide, 11,000 in the U.S. Fiscal year 2006 sales: $22.1 billion globally, $2.5 billion in the U.S. Catalog: Ikea says it's the world's highest-distributed annual free publication with 175 million copies printed in 55 editions and 27 languages. Where Ikea product names come from: Scandinavian places and occupations, men's and women's names and animals, among others. October 22, 200717 yr AP: IKEA begins hiring for Cincinnati-area store 10/22/2007, 8:55 a.m. EDT The Associated Press WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) — Applications are being taken online for about 400 new jobs in the Cincinnati area. Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA is starting to recruit workers for a store set to open in West Chester in the spring. Job descriptions and applications are available online at http://www.IKEA-USA.com. The monster store will include about 10,000 items, three model homes, 50 room settings and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties and American dishes. IKEA operates 260 stores around the world, including 32 in the United States, and has about 100,000 employees.
November 28, 200717 yr Ikea opening looms BY MIKE BOYER | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER November 27, 2007 WEST CHESTER TWP. – Ikea-fanatics take note. Construction of the iconic home furnishing retailers’ first Ohio store here is about two-thirds complete, paving the way for its planned spring opening. An opening date for Ikea’s 34th U.S. store hasn’t been set. But spokesman Joseph Roth said today construction of the 344,000-square-foot blue and yellow store off Muhlhauser and Allen roads should be finished in January. That will allow Ikea employees to begin a two-to-three month “build-out” period to install storage racks, finish the store’s 50 different room settings and stock the 10,000 different items – from meatballs to sofas – that each Ikea store carries. Located on 56 acres overlooking Interstate 75, the store is one of only two Ikeas to open in the United States in 2008. It is expected to draw shoppers from several states looking for the privately held Swedish company’s mix of value and sleek styling. Lonnie Rodgers II, store manager, said all 50 department managers have been hired, and hiring of the first of about 350 hourly employees is underway. A particular focus is on food service workers for the store’s 300-seat restaurant, employee cafeteria, quick-serve Bistro and Swedish foodmarket. Food is an important part of the Ikea experience because Roth said the typical shopper spends three hours perusing the store’s second-floor showroom and first-floor Marketplace, featuring accessories, cookware and lighting.
November 28, 200717 yr ^WTF why does the enquirer always emphasize the food and the freakin meatballs at IKEA???
November 28, 200717 yr Hey the food rocks. Didn't have the meatballs, but the best chicken fingers around and darn cheap. I used to go once or twice a week while living cheap in Philly.
November 28, 200717 yr ^That is the same exact article that I already posted...except this one has a modified headline.

November 30, 200717 yr lol rando, i like the hhhmmm comment. i went through and read you and dans little argument and thought it went away, but then he wrote that, and I honestly dont know what he means by it but it makes me laugh. My original intent was to illustrate the silly fact that the Enquirer likes to change their headlines around 2, 3, even 4 times online. I'm guessing they're testing ideas out before the morning print, but it is really just annoying/confusing. Either way, DanB comes out of nowhere and makes that post...one of the first posts I've seen from him in a while. Makes you say hmmm...
November 30, 200717 yr yeah, when they do that with crime reports, it makes a place look much more dangerous than it really is.
November 30, 200717 yr I _LOVE_ Ikea's decor, furniture and food. And meatballs. Would recommend again. A+++
January 10, 200817 yr Ikea to open March 12 BY JOY KRAFT | CINCINNATI ENQUIRER January 10, 2008 WEST CHESTER TWP. - March 12 is being circled on the calendars of IKEA shoppers as the Swedish company, specializing in contemporary home interiors, announces the opening of the 344,000 square foot West Chester store. “We made excellent progress on construction in the summer and fall, so we are confident the remaining construction milestones and interior build-up process will be complete by March,” says Lonnie Rodgers II, store manager of the West Chester site along I-75 at the southeastern corner of Allen and Muhlhauser roads, south of the Union Centre Boulevard exit. “Now our primary objective is to continue hiring and training the nearly 400 local hires . . . before we open.”
January 10, 200817 yr This place had better have good meatballs, since every other post or article talks about the meatballs. I bet they aren't as good as grandmas meatballs!!
January 10, 200817 yr Dayton Daily has a more detailed article about the opening along with job fair information... IKEA announced plans to build the 344,000-square-foot retail center in August 2006. January 10, 200817 yr I was reading alot of comments about people not having to goto the Chicago or Pittsburgh store anymore. This will be HUGE for both the Cincinnati and Dayton area.
January 11, 200817 yr ^ Agreed. I'm interested in checking the place out, but not in that first month. I'd love to see pictures of different license plates in the parking lot on opening day, as the claim is that people drive in from all over for these stores. Must be the freaking lingonberries and swedish meatballs that we keep hearing about!
January 11, 200817 yr The one in Detroit (okay, Canton) was front page news for WEEKS. It was a mob scene for the first few months. But even then, Monday nights were always a bit mellow.
January 13, 200817 yr Hundreds attend job fair at Butler Tech for new IKEA store At least 400 positions still need to be filled before the store's March 12 opening. January 18, 200817 yr IKEA delivers minimalism to the masses The merchant, which is opening a store in the area, prides itself on simple products. By Shelley Emling, Cox News Service Friday, January 18, 2008 STOCKHOLM — When American shoppers hear that Swedish home-furnishings giant IKEA is opening a store nearby, they circle the opening date on their calendars and camp out in the parking lot the night before. How does a chain emphasizing simple design and quirkily named merchandise inspire such passion? "They have an astonishing array of products at reasonable prices," said Swedish shopper Ilze Filks. That simple mix has made IKEA a global leader in economical, assemble-it-yourself home furnishings, with 237 stores in 36 countries. The company has 33 stores in the United States and will open another 25 stores worldwide this year, including one in West Chester on March 12. It's the kind of place where intrepid shoppers can find a three-seater sofa for less than $100.
