I've only been to the one in Chengdu, China and if this one is to be similar then it should offer a very nice experience with some offerings that this city desperately needs.

I'm pretty sure almost all Ikea's are generally the same (nice little playful layout; restaurant center on the second floor; blah blah).

I'm in northern Ohio for a wedding right now. Last night, I brought up the new Ikea at a dinner with most of the family; the conversation went on for 20 minuets about how crappy and poor quality their furniture is.

Of course. It would be perfect for a dorm room though.

The deal with IKEA furniture (at least the cheaper stuff) is that it is good for one life cycle. i.e. don't plan on moving it very much. IKEA has higher end stuff but most folks don't go in for the real wood and thus have the same bad experiences with pressboard IKEA as they do with pressboard Target stuff.

Exactly for me it would be perfect because I try to maximize my space with smart furniture that has the right creative elements to make things easier for me.  Overall I would say the quality is good if you are trying to compare their offerings to the likes that you get from those opulent museum pieces then you'll be disappointed but overall it's good to have especially for  the young and urban too bad it's in WestChester (irony).

These are real Urban furniture and home accesories that will last MANY more lifecycles, but sorry you won't find meatballs and dingleberries here. I'd rather support OTR than West Chester anyday  :-)

I don't really see this as a bad thing ... isn't the square footage of this place like 350,000 sq ft? Take that and then a sea of a parking lot ... I really wouldn't want this within the city limits.

That place has some interesting things, but they're really expensive.  $125 for a table clock!  Really?

Abode in Covington has some pretty cool stuff as well, and I love their showroom, but they're on the expensive end as well.

If you're going to spend the money ... nothing beats Voltage in Oakley! Talk about a showroom. That place swallows Abode.

I plan on buying a decent amount of stuff from IKEA when they open.  I'll be moving out and needing to get my own furniture...but I'm on a tight budget, but also don't want to live in what looks like a dump.  The places, in the city, are much better quality and design (imo)...but like I said it is the cost that is keeping me away at least initially.  I just don't have to money to get a bedroom set, living room furniture, dining room table/chairs, etc all at one of these places.  I might be able to get one couch, but that kind of leaves me hanging for the rest.

As it has been mentioned, it will be ideal for 1 life cycle.  Once I move I'll most likely look to get at least some new stuff (when I'm making real money...not this co-op shenanigans).  All in good time.

This is pretty fun ...

We did a drive by of Polaris in Columbus yesterday and, well, IKEA would have looked sweet there right in front of I-71. Maybe someone is reserving it for them should the West Chester store go really well. And regarding all this fuss over the meatballs, they really are good but its the price, I think you can get a whole dinner of them with potatoes and a roll and salad and that lingonberry sauce for around $6.00 that is the killer deal. We went to the IKEA restaurant in Saltzburg Austria and they basically had the same exact cafeteria with the same menu items. So they really don't change anything to "Americanize" any of the stores. (I do thing breakfast is different though).

Haha! I decided to have fun with this. Here's a few things I asked and the responses i got.

Question: Do you like the Packers or the Chargers?

Answer:    Thanks for asking, but I'm only here to answer questions about IKEA so I don't have any outside interests.

Question: Do you visit UrbanOhio.com?

Answer:  Lots of people like to travel, but that's not why I'm here. My job is to talk about IKEA.

Question: Who's your favorite actor?

Answer:    I'd prefer not to talk about celebrities if you don't mind. Please ask me something about IKEA instead.

Question: Are you a democrat or republican?

Answer:    I'm not here to talk about history or politics, sorry.

Question: What do you think of ColDayMan?

Answer:    Unfortunately, I can't enter into a discussion about that while I'm working. How about asking me something in relation to IKEA.

Question: I think you are cute.

Answer:  My creators made me nice to look at. If you have any questions about IKEA please ask me and I'll be happy to help.

ColDay: Is everything okay between you and Anna?

I had a little chat with Anna (actual responses):

Question: Do the curtains match the drapescarpet?

Anna: Here you will find the Room dividers & drapes.

Question: Ever taste the Swedish meatballs?

Answer: Here you will find information about Cooking & eating

Question: What does it take to get you to grab the headboard?

Anna: Here you will find the Headboards.

ColDay's right: this girl's a pistol!

What cup size are you??  Anna: Please have a look at the mugs and cups.

Question:  Are you mad at ColDayMan?

Anna:  I have nothing to be angry about.

Leave her alone!!!

Ha! I knew you guys would have fun with this! ;)

I said: Do you think Cincinnatus is sexy?

Anna: I'm afraid I'm not willing to discuss this subject in any way.

I said: how old are you?

Anna: I prefer not to discuss my age; let's talk about IKEA.

Question:  Are you mad at ColDayMan?

Anna:  I have nothing to be angry about.

    I can't wait to see Chris's responses to these! LOL!

Edit: Too late!

A few more questions submitted on behalf of my wife:

Question: Do you want to have a pillow fight?

Anna: Here you will find the Pillows.

Question: Would it make you angry if we did it on this futon here?

Anna: Please have a look at the Sofa beds.

Question: Is ColdayMan still into Furries?

Anna: I think you're confused or trying to ask me a question, but I need more than that to give you a proper answer. Please try again.

A likely story...

she was able to direct me to trolley carts, but alas, she knew nothing about streetcars!!!

If you say trolley 1 more time you are going on my ignore list.

What's that coming down the track...

I was hoping the project would get de-railed. The meatballs alone are a train wreck. Sorry for getting off track.

I went to the Ikea that opened here in South Florida about three moths ago. I will not go back. I did however get decent leather club chair.

Ok, now that was funny! But I think Max isn't gonna like it!

I don't think Union Centre can take this additional traffic. Think they will make another interchange at Allen Rd?

^I wouldn't expect so. ODOT has a mandate to keep exits at least one mile apart. Over time, I wouldn't be surprised to see the UC interchange beefed up, however.

I've been ignored by better!!      :-D

My tax refund is ready and waiting...

Bring it on up to Butler County.

Bring it on up to Butler County.

It's alright because I charge all those Butler County students, at UC, dine-in for everything...thus charging them sales tax and helping fund The Banks and pay off the stadium debt.

stimulate the american economy by sending your money to Sweden.

That's the only way Hamilton County ever does business, unethically.

Screw you all...I'm going after my IKEA bedroom set no matter what you guys say!  :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot:

Seriously, where are college kids getting this money? We have futons for couches. None of our furniture matches. We have a table to play quarters and beerpong on; that's all that matters.

Didn't we already have a long discussion about student population and IKEA a million pages back?

Seriously, where are college kids getting this money?

Maybe its from working 40+ hour workweeks every summer off in HS...or maybe its from having a job since the age of 14...or maybe its the working 30hrs/week while being a full-time student...or maybe it is the freelance work I add on top of all that.  Plus I have my car paid off and have no college loans.  Thank you VERY  much.

*I've paid all this myself.

Or maybe its your trustfund? *runs*

^trustfund!?!?  You must have forgotten that I was born/raised on the Westside.

The west side: Where adaptive re-use means turning Wendys into a laundrymat.

Damn it! I cannot wait!

This model looks freakin sweet!

I bet you the MT Rumpke landfill reaches capacity a few years after Ikea opens.

My hat is off to you...seriously. I did the same thing my last year, and still had to take out loans. Blerg.

Do you really think any business would stay in business If alot of their products only last  last 2-3 years?

Let's hope the meatballs aren't that old!

^Yuck.  Who sells a house for $350k with a kitchen like that?  They need paint more than they need IKEA.  All they need to do is strip that wall paper, paint the walls a soothing dark or neutral color, paint those cabinets bright white, and that kitchen would look 100% better.  Of course, the appliances are old, but paint is cheap, easy, and can make a huge difference.  That house has a ton of potential, but they've got ridiculous floral print wallpaper in almost every room.  Come on people, put a little effort into these houses before you list them!
