I just love how the courthouse is built into the block.

 

 

 

 

 

 

FANTASTIC!!!  Those are some sexy buildings.  Ohio cities have such a sense of place.  I can't wait for these spaces to become alive with activity again with the death of the car.  It's going to be a tough transition for a lot of areas of the country, but cities like Wooster I'm sure will fare very well.

Wooster's courthouse has always puzzled me. The basic style (Second Empire?) is all about symmetry, and the tower is of appropriate design but belongs dead-center atop the building, and not stuck on a rear corner like an afterthought.

That's because it was never completed. :)

Wooster had quite the "Little Italy" appeal at one time. Instead of hanging around New York, all of the Italian side of my family headed west and settled there on "the hill." Every weekend the neighborhood would make all kinds of food, play music,  and basically invite the whole town, including the starving Wooster College students over for dinner.

I agree about the courthouse being built into the block...very nice.

To my eyes it looks about as close to perfect as a small town can get.  Of course, I don't have to live there, but sure looks inviting. The courthouse is a quirky gem, at once scaled to the corner and on the other hand towering above the streetscape brazenly demanding attention.  Love it.

The courthouse may not be completely accurate to its style or completed as planned, but it easily is one of my favorites in Ohio. So imposing...

I know one of the buildings was a kite store, and I want to say the other was a natural food store. IIRC, the buildings are being renovated by Washington properties, the group responsible for much of the great work in the above photos.

Going to Wooster can suprise you if you've never been there.  You travel through miles of farmland and then Bam!! a fairly large city.  My office has been doing work down there for over 40 years and it never gets old going there to check on a job.

I hate Route 83 where all of the big box crap is packed into that one strip.  That mega-church right after the big box district is  a trip, too...and it's expanding.  83 is a pretty decent drive, though, from Avon to Amish Country.

I hate the Rt. 83 big box / megachurch strip too... think it's called Burbank Rd....  that's where all my co-workers lived/shopped/dined... I could never get any of them to go downtown to great places like Matsos Greek Restaurant, Olde Jaol, and P.J. McBurgerstein's
