I love the GoogleWaves people sometimes give. One of the best was apparently staged outside the Collaborative Innovation Center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh......

 

 

 

Then, apparently the Google Streetview van turned down this alley for another pass, giving this crowd more time to assemble and grow. This GoogleWave was so big, and included some flags, that I had to use two views and stitch them together in Photoshop....

In Google Earth, Cleveland just got new aerial shots dated 4/6/2012, but seeing as there is an Indians game going on I think it's actually from 4/7/2012.  So you get pretty new looks at the Innerbelt piers, MM/CC, and FEB.

^ Judging by the progress on Washington Park I would say the photos were probably captured in May or early June 2012. The park actually opened during the World Choir Games in early July. A lot of the trees are planted, but there is still no grass laid out and the fountain is still being assembled. My best guess is early May.

 

Good find, though! I was hoping Cincinnati's images would be updated soon! And those angled shots look much more flatering than the top-down view. One of the main reasons I use Bing is because of the great bird's eye view. Now Google is catching up in that regard. You can also rotate the view by dragging the north icon at the top left corner, so it has the same functionality as Bing too.

Zoom in on the Tower City Complex on map view. Something new.

Google Earth just updated the 3D imagery of Cincinnati to their new satellite projections instead of the user-generated objects for Downtown, CUF, OTR, Walnut Hills, quite a bit of Northern Kentucky, East to Mt. Lookout, and West to Addyston. Welcome addition since the user-generated buildings weren't always available. I would like to see this extend to the edge of Hamilton County though.

 

The one downside is that you can't right click on buildings and hide them.

 

Also, Music Hall, the Great American Insurance tower, and St. Peter in Chains (among other buildings) look like shit. :/

Take a look at the intersection of Walnut and 2nd Street in Cincinnati. If you look east you can see the Great American Tower and The Banks rise out of the ground. Also some of the differences between Washington Park and 14th/Vine is pretty impressive.

I'm on a Mac. The interface is completely different on Chrome, Firefox v. Safari. I still get nothing to change time.

Maybe it just doesn't work on Mac? I saw it didn't work on mobile.

Are you using the New Google Maps or is it the old version? That could be the difference. I'm on a PC using Chrome.

FF & Chrome put me into new maps, Safari did not. My OS is kinda dated so my Safari is not the latest either.

Latest versions of maps requires WebGL, which isn't turned on by default and not supported on older versions of Safari. Simply turning it on doesn't really help though, as Google has simply decided not to support Safari at all because of that, so they default to Lite mode.

You can also see the change in Big Butter Jesus just off of 71 in Monroe. You can see the original statue, a pile of debris, a new metal frame, then the new standing Jesus. Unfortunately the Google Street View never captured Terminator Jesus after the lightning struck.

Google just updated the Street View images of Cincinnati. Images were taken in July/August 2014

I remember when they were out getting the current images. I just went and found myself in front of Quan Happa. Fun times haha.

Yeah I found myself driving on Reading. Unfortunately the car must not have been recording when it passed me in front of Rothenberg because the image is up but I'm not there.

Just clicked around for a minute, but it looks like they covered Over-the-Rhine much better than in the past. There were a lot of streets they never hit before.

 

Edit: Wow, Vine Street looks so different even from the last time I was there. Incredible. While the Mercer Commons buildings on Vine are kind of ugly, they look better in context than in isolation.

Yeah it's not the best building, but that corridor is definitely better for its existence. The massing is contextual and that spot really feels complete these days.

I don't mind One Mercer, but I HATE HATE HATE the townhouses.

At the very least the townhomes across the street in Phase III look to be more appropriately scaled and will probably fill in the space better.

I'm kind of hoping somehow 10 years from now one of the middle town homes will become abandoned and then accidentally burn to the ground when no ones in it so that we can fill it with something less monotonous.

 

The charm of OTR is in the varying heights and style of vertically oriented row houses. What the heck were they thinking building a row of identical buildings? Even the cheaply building Brackett Village on Walnut didn't do that.

I don't mind that they're the same. Rows of identical buildings occur all over Cincy and in many places close by to OTR. Maybe not exactly typical for OTR but I'm also not of the opinion that just because something happened (or didn't happen) historically that it should be emulated.

I am planning on doing a huge set and posting in the photos section here. I was getting such a kick out of it (obviously haha) and figured Facebook wasn't the best medium to get across how much has really changed in a fairly short time. Google Maps has new aerials for Cleveland - it looks like the images were taken last summer.  This must have changed within the past couple days because I don't remember them being updated on Monday.  You can now see FEB, Uptown Phase II, the Downtown Hilton, County Headquarters, etc., etc., etc.

 

 

*Now that I look at it again, it appears nothing west of W. 25th has been updated, weird.
