April 29, 201510 yr Ok, I'm annoyed with Google Maps. I cannot figure out how to get back the satellite view. It seems like Google maps was updated and I only have the option for their generic street grid maps or Google Earth. I can't stand the cartoon-ish 3D video game looking Earth images! There is an option to revert back to the "old" Google Maps. That option takes me to the "Lite" version and I can view old grainy satellite images. However, when you zoom in, it does not do the cool 45 degree angle view. Give me back the satellite images, Google!!! :whip: Anyone know how to get the non-Lite old version of Google Maps back, with the cool 45 degree angle satellite views?
April 29, 201510 yr This link takes you to the classic maps https://www.google.com/maps?output=classic [edit - the link worked yesterday, now it does not --- sheesh] (I agree, none of the changes in the new Google Maps are good)
April 29, 201510 yr Yikes! Up until now, there has always been the option to switch back to the old version (see below). But that does not work anymore. This really blows. I used the 45 degree "bird's eye" view often for my work. Now I will have to go back to stupid Bing maps. Their images are old, but I guess that's the only (free) choice now.
April 29, 201510 yr The link still works for me, but they are calling it "Lite Mode" now. Plus, no angle view. but at least you can still see the satellite view without the horrible 3-D overlays.
May 4, 201510 yr Like many of you, for the past year or so, I've always switched back over to the Classic Google maps setting instead of the current Google Maps setup. And like many of you, I was disappointed to see the "Classic" mode discontinued last week, particularly because of the 45 degree images. Want to continue to use the "Classic" setup? I don't know how long this will continue to work, but here's a current work-around that I have discovered: Use this website: http://gmap-pedometer.com/ This is the classic Google Maps interface, and if you hover over the "satellite" button in the upper right corner, it gives you the option to view the 45 degree images. Enjoy! EDIT: this might only give you the "north" 45-degree view. Do any of you see a way to view the other South/West/East views on there?

And yes, you can use the other directions. Click on the "Street View Man" to rotate view 90 degrees.
May 5, 201510 yr What areas are you looking at that you feel Google Earth looks cartoony? If it's everything what type of device are you using and what operating system, browser/app are you using?
May 6, 201510 yr New Old New side view of same area (zoomed in) Old Noticeable difference. I'm running Windows 7 and using Chrome
May 31, 201510 yr This link still allows the rotate-able 45 degree views https://www.google.com/lochp Looks like this trick stopped working. It now forces you to turn on the Lite version for satellite. :x

August 22, 20168 yr I just went on Fi two weeks ago. So far so good. Yesterday was actually the first time I had weak service while inside, no big deal really. Will be in Europe for a few weeks at the end of this month, I will update after that. The seamless data coverage throughout 135 countries was one of the major selling points, so we shall see how well that goes.
August 22, 20168 yr Saw the google maps car driving up E12th st and onto Euclid this afternoon. Maybe I'll be famous with the new update!
August 22, 20168 yr ^ Two summers ago I saw the Street View car around Cincinnati 5 times in one day. I ended up with a cameo three of the five times. It must not have been actively capturing the other two times. They've updated their aerial imagery of Cincinnati since then and I don't know if there's a way to go back and get old images, but they actually caught me out in my back yard in that, too. It was starting to get a bit ridiculous because I'm the type of person that avoids being photographed as much as I can manage.
September 23, 20168 yr An update on my experiences with Google Fi Project so far: I have concluded that it's a very viable option (financially) if you use 3 GB or less of data a month. Anything more than that then the family plans from the other carriers are a better deal. That said, especially in light of recent news with the largest carrier in the US, paying a little more per GB for piece of mind might be worth it for you. I was consuming around 2GB a month with Verizon. On Fi I now come in just under 1GB. I think the reduction in data use is a combination of the open trusted Wifi switching and also being conscious that i'm paying directly for everything I use. That might not appeal to you, but if your a minimalist at heart like me then it works. Now the international aspect. This is where I think Fi shines. Upon entering a new country Fi informs you of the charges to expect. For the most part (depending where you like to take yourself) that means the same $10 per GB free SMS and 20cents/min phone. For the two weeks I recently spent in Europe my total was just over $11. That includes a few phone calls and sharing hot-spot data with the GF (free feature with fi). Not bad. Reception was not a problem other than when I was on some far out, small Sicilian island which who cares if you have service at that point :) I had to manually re-search for service a few times but that's something i'm sure will improve over time with fi project. My bill is now $30 month after going down to 1GB. Also the Nexus 5x is a steal for $250. Overall I think fi is pretty fantastic. Hope this write up helps someone.
September 23, 20168 yr Has anyone else played around with Google Allo? If you haven't definitely download it! Super cool and very useful. It's like one of those things ... like how has no one ever come out with something like this until now?
September 23, 20168 yr Just in random convo, it knows that you're looking for information that it quickly retrieves with no effort, weather, traffic, closing times and actually accurate responses to other people's txt messages.
October 20, 20168 yr Cleveland has very recent aerials that were updated in the past few days. It shows Green Line work being completed east of Shaker Square which was wrapped up only in the past three weeks.

January 4, 20214 yr whoa historic google news -- i never thought it could be allowed to happen, but it did -- google unionizes! Google employees announce creation of union BY CHRIS MILLS RODRIGO - 01/04/21 06:30 AM EST More than 200 Google employees on Monday announced the creation of a union, a historic first at a major technology company. The Alphabet Workers Union, referring to Google’s parent company, is launching with support from the Communications Workers of America. While smaller subsets of Google workers — cafeteria workers in the Bay Area and contractors in Pittsburgh — have unionized before, this marks the first effort to establish a companywide union. “This is historic—the first union at a major tech company by and for all tech workers,” Dylan Baker, a Google software engineer, said in a statement. more: https://thehill.com/policy/technology/532469-google-employees-announce-creation-of-union
