Hey Cleveland-area UO folks...

I'm trying to gauge your interest in getting together an UO group bicycle ride and tour towards the end of May.

I'm thinking we can pick a destination and take an interesting route to it, and possibly even stop at a local place for food and drink at the end of the tour.  Maybe we can plan for a two-hour ride after work some night during the week.  It can be a great way to see the finer details of the city, get some exercise, and enjoy the company of fellow urban and Cleveland enthusiasts!

Respond if you're interested, and we'll figure it out from here.

This sounds like fun.  I'd like to participate.  I'll need enought time to request off, as I'm not a 9-5'er.

Wish I could do it since every time I head out to Cleveland, I take the bike although with my new job that might be difficult to meet up.

How about on a Saturday morning, then we end up at someplace at lunchtime for food/drink?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, but would like to chime in here.  I'm currently living in Spain, but ought to be back in Cleveland around the end of July.  If you all organize some kind of weekly/monthly UO bike gettogether, I'll be sure to participate once I'm back in town.  As for a schedule, I ought to be pretty flexible; weekend or evening would be great.

I hope this materializes, I love group rides!

Can I borrow a bike?  I'm taking my vacation in Cleveland this summer, and I'd love to meet some of you.  I haven't picked the week yet, but if this materializes, it would not be a problem to vaca during said week.  Just need a bike.  Maybe there's a cheap rental place somewhere?

Kinda off topic, but I came across this the other day.  Not really saying anything about it, but just thought it was interesting:

I think it sounds like a good idea and i'd be interested

I too really like this idea and would suggest that perhaps our first ride should be in conjunction with the ohio city bike co-op's (OCBC) weekly saturday morning ride, which departs at 10:00 am.  this would be ideal for anyone that doesn't have their own bike.  if you've never been on an OCBC sat morning social ride, they attract anywhere from 5 to 25 riders and jim sheehan of the co-op is full of interesting misc. facts about the flats that makes the ride a real hoot!

if folks are down with this, let's plan for a saturday morning in the near future. these rides usually last about two hours and end w/ a stop at the WSM for eats.

note that this saturday, may 17 (10am - 3pm), is OCBC's first annual bicycle scavenger hunt which will feature the unusual and fun twist of competing against an electric car, with the idea being to show-off the transportation prowess of the bicycle.  please sign-up at OCBC if interested.  lots of great prizes and some cool promotions with local businesses like dish global deli and room service!

Doesn't Ohio City Bike Co-op also have rentals?

"In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

^ yes, they definitely have rentals, but I believe one can use a bike for the social ride for free

Fridrich Cycles in Ohio City also has rentals.

There are other shops around the region that rent bikes too, so it depends on where the route begins.  I'm psyched today because it's the start of Cleveland Bicycle Week (www.clevelandbicycleweek.org) and I just bought a new bike down at the Ohio City Bike Co-op.  I'll be riding in style!  Also, now that I'm geared up, count me in for the ride!

Looks like we have a lot of interest!  I'm pretty excited.

So do you guys prefer Saturday mornings rather than an evening after work?  If so, how's

Saturday, May 31st for everyone?  As Guv suggested, the first one can coincide with Ohio City Bike Co-op's Saturday ride, if you'd like.  But we can always break off, pursue another destination/route, or stop somewhere for food/drinks.

Saturday mornings are good for me.

Great idea for an event.  If I'm ever in town for a scheduled ride, I would definitely be interested in joining.

bump!
