Posted May 6, 200817 yr So I decided to get out of dodge and visit my folks. Took some photos in and around Salem, Lisbon and East Liverpool - the weather wasn't the best but what can you do? Quick shots of Salem's South Lincoln Avenue historic district (on the National Register, I believe): The house for sale is the one you see in the 1st pic: http://www.stamprealty.com/buy/details.asp?ListingID=1497665&ListingType=Residential Some flora at Guilford Lake, near Lisbon: Time to grab lunch in Lisbon, bustling metropolis that it is: See that gazebo? I've seen people have weddings there - they park their tractors on the street and everyone wears their finest/cleanest overalls. No. I'm. Not. Joking. :-o That's not to say Lisbon doesn't have any redeeming qualities - charming historic downtown and residential stock, and the Steel Trolley Diner: Chocolate + coconut flavored milkshake... droooooool... Across the street from the diner: Gooooo diner! The Old Stone Tavern, home of Lisbon's historical society: Columbiana County courthouse: The Lepper Library: Onward to East Liverpool - they have a nice antique mall - and a residential midrise! Does that say "shopping" district? And that's West Virginia on the other side of the bridge: Okay, the downtown has some nice historic buildings but I have to take issue with that "shopping" thing: This charming little coffee shop is in a nice spot - the ground floor of the former Ogilvies department store: Some details: Back through Lisbon again: And back to Guilford Lake: Howdy from Guilford Lake: Sunset at Guilford Lake: And back through Salem: Hmm, kinda like Crocker Park without the Gap! And back where I started: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

May 6, 200817 yr Wow MayDay, your neighborhood has some beautiful homes. The diner is cute! See that gazebo? I've seen people have weddings there - they park their tractors on the street and everyone wears their finest/cleanest overalls. No. I'm. Not. Joking. Wow.
May 6, 200817 yr Nice tour - I think you made East Liverpool look better than it is in real life - I always thought it was pretty depressing except for the view from across the river in WV (i.e., best when seen from a distance!). I was hoping for a shot or two of Hanoverton since you were out that way - I used to make the trip out to the Spread Eagle Tavern every so often but it's been a few years now. And you went to Guilford without a stop at Mark's Landing?
May 6, 200817 yr Oh, I've been to Marks Landing plenty of times and will likely go plenty more - just not this time around. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
May 6, 200817 yr good ole Columbiana County... one of my favorite counties in Ohio... heading east into Lisbon is where I first started to feel like I was "home"... what a quaint little hamlet... E. Liverpool has some good "bones" but is unfortunately quite downtrodden... at least nearby Calcutta (the shopping mecca of Metro E. Liverpool) has a Tim Hortons AND a Sheetz! I got a speeding ticket in Hanoverton a couple years ago... the cop was using a 1980s Crown Victoria... it's a little nothing-village... which is why I was amazed that there was some pretty interesting early 1800s structures a couple blocks off the highway next time, get some Wellsville!
