I'm just a random person, but my concern is them moving 200 jobs out of Cleveland which I assume would include moving their HQ address. Sure, Ohio City keeps the brewpub but all the jobs and tax revenue from their national sales moves to Avon. If they don't do that, then it's not that big of a deal to me.

I guess that's fair, it hasn't been clear to what extent they will be moving jobs out of Ohio City. There's a lot of conflicting signals, including buying the W25th frontage of their building last year (which doesn't make sense if they are looking to move jobs out of the area). They've given zero reason to think they're reducing their Ohio City presence outside of looking for new real estate. I'd support them doing what's best for the company regardless, but if people are assuming they are moving everything out of Ohio City besides the brewpub I can understand the concern quite a bit more. From what they've said so far, I just think it's likely unwarranted.

It was reported they’d be consolidating their canning and brewing into one location no?

Yes I suppose it was, and that is clearly some of their jobs at the Ohio City location, but I'm sure it's far from all of them. I guess the question is if they move will they keep their business/headquarters jobs in Ohio City. They may also choose to continue to brew some smaller / seasonal batches at the Ohio City location. My guess is that as long as they retain the Ohio City space, they will continue to use it, and given that they're expanding it, and committed to retaining the brewpub, they will continue to retain and use it. That means that most likely a significant chunk of the non restaurant employees will remain in Ohio City. I don't have any inside information, but that's my read of the situation.

There isn't any way to say that for sure because they haven't made their full intentions clear. They have only said they plan to keep the brewpub in Ohio City.

The city needs to stop shedding businesses and workers. Even if they only lose some workers it’d be bad for the city.

It's a beautiful view! I sure hope something can be done to the bulkheads/riverfront by the apartments to really enhance it further.

^I think they should stay as they are; Old Cleveland, meet New Cleveland.

they're building a walking path above them right? that should enhance the look at least.

Side note, as these formerly industrial areas get built up they've got to get some ladders and life rings on the bulkheads. Poking my head out in and around down there I can't help but think if someone fell in it'd be bad news. Thankfully the UO mods said I'd be compensated for pain and suffering if I fell in but that's besides the point.

And I know there's a better place for this link, but years ago I made a map of all the Cleveland breweries I could dig up (it goes back a page of comments, but yes, a ton were in residential hoods, but Cleveland was also a very different city back then): https://veganbrisket.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=19628b56e7f8479c9261b7700272616c

I agree.  Scranton Peninsula is the rarest of things, too- a nearly from scratch new neighborhood adjacent to Downtown.

I feel like they’re already behind I see a lot of people during the summer climbing the bulk head from their boats to get to brewdog, meaning they will drunkenly be doing the reverse

Not the best photo, but was a cool feeling to drive through and see construction crews at work on two separate projects across the street from each other.

Just thinking out loud, what would be the best location for a tower to fill in the gap between SW and Key in this photo?

^That parking crater triangle thing next to the soon-to-be Hotel Cleveland’s ballroom, on Superior & Prospect.

I never noticed how the new construction sorta compliments the old, see the windows at Brewdog and the adjacent 3 story.

This must be Silver Hills. 1960 Carter Cleveland OH 44113.

363k sqft bigger than I thought.

The blank wall on the left of the photo, which is of, I assume, a parking garage, presents a pretty stark view from Columbus Ave. I hope there’s some plans to beautify it.

I took this photo back in 2008 on a visit to Cleveland. I get all of the completions of a former industrial site but the potential was always there it has taken a long time. This is an entire new neighborhood in such a picturesque area of the city. I'm very pleased to see the contrast.

I’ve been taking my daily walk down Carter Rd through these two projects and the scale of it all is pretty fantastic. I hope when these two are completed we don’t need to wait for better pedestrian connections. Without a street grid the parking options will be slim for visitors as well.

Drove around the area yesterday. Looks amazing. My only question is are there plans for sidewalks?

The view from Columbus Rd across the river should be OK, but there's still a big blank wall facing Carter Road, no?  I thought that's what you may have been asking about originally.

That entire segment of Carter needs a full depth restoration and completely new roadscape. It's a warzone.

But I have no clue if there are plans to redo the road. I can imagine that would be a city project if so.

Thanks, but it was Columbus I was referring to. I travel that road quite frequently and sat up on the bluffs on the opposite bank of the river, that wall looms large. Now I know it’s apartments, it’s going to look great and with the appearance of some real density.

Add sidewalks and some retail and we have a brand-new urban neighborhood to enjoy.

It's beyond time to reimagine street-level activation beyond retail.  I have no answers as to what make sense for property owners trying to maximize revenue - I just know that the old model is no longer viable, no matter how much we wish it was.  Group work space, exercise space - these types of things would add activity but not necessarily revenue.  Together they would make a district more attractive then driving up rent prices perhaps.  Maybe there's enough density for a dry cleaner, a small coffee shop but I can't image much more.  In my neighborhood 100% of the retail space at the new Top of the Hill apartments is still empty - and this is in an established commercial district with a ton of traffic.

The more time I spend in this area of the city, the more I hope the city and GLBC can work out a land swap deal and have GLBC locate on some vacant land in an industrial area (maybe Opp Corridor?). I really feel strongly that having that greenspace there next to the trail is a great natural habitat and could be restored to attract wildlife back to the area. It's just so peaceful when you bike by on it, and it gives a great view of the river and downtown. With the future of this area being much more residential/park focused, the industrial building will feel really out of context for Scranton peninsula.

GLBC and great natural habitat restoration don’t need to be mutually exclusive. Just google Stone Brewing in Escondido to see what’s possible! It’s the beer garden for the 21st century

I wish the city could have buried all the utility lines to beautify the streets.

Anyone know if Carter road is going to get improvements in front of these developments? Seems like sidewalks and at least one lane for street parking will be needed here.

The skyline views from down on Scranton are some of the best. Gonna be an easy seller for all the new apartments. My only complaint is all the telephone poles. Wish they’d be put underground.

That looks like a city I would like to live in.

That's a great angle that not many will have seen before. One thing I really value in Cleveland's cityscape is the lack of a cohesive grid Downtown and in its immediate vicinity. It creates interesting angles where buildings are oriented differently in the skyline, vistas are terminated by buildings, there's a layering effect you don't often get with strict gridded cities as much, etc.

I am so confused by how that garage part is going to work or how they're building it lol. Never seen one built like this before it's really interesting. Also looks hilarious right now by looking like most of it is held up by sticks leaning up against it 🤣

yeah that is a very unusual construction style to be sure. also and hopefully its just an optical illusion, but in the second shot yikes it almost looks like its sagging in the middle.

I've never seen a prefab parking garage before. The sticks holding up huge concrete slabs are much more typical with data center or warehouse construction. Really interesting to see it applied to a parking garage. Presumably it's cheaper and hopefully it works out well. I'd love to see more garages and less spread out parking lots.

And how is the garage ventilated?
