Posted May 17, 200817 yr I think there are a couple here that aren't often seen... The new tech center is now in use... I think all the work is done on the facade of the John R. Davis building. Maybe they will restore the some of the ornament in the future? Notice the auto-oriented detail... The back of the new tech center. When the trees don't have leaves, this is a pretty cool view of the Mahoning Commons bridge. (aka Mr. Peantut bridge) It's currently being refurbished.
May 17, 200817 yr That's some pretty buildings you got there. Can you add some people too? :) I heard someone say that a city of pretty buildings but no people isn't really a city. It's a museum. I hope these investments will start pulling people back. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I hope these investments will start pulling people back. Keep in mind that these were taken during "off peak" times. The first 5 were taken around 7:30AM, before people started arriving for work. (except the construction workers working on Federal St.) The others were taken after 5:15, after most of the office workers went home. (or to a restaurant like Rosetta Stone or Cedars) I took another look through my pictures, and I must apologize for the tilt that some of the pictures have. I was in too much of a hurry, and didn't straighten them.
May 17, 200817 yr Thanks JRC. Do you know the status of the Liberty Theater? I heard it is slated to be demolished. Is this true? :-(
May 17, 200817 yr I haven't heard anything official, but the concensus is that it will be demolished eventually. The guy who bought it, Paul Warshauer--in association with Lou Frangos, claimed he wanted to refurbish it. But, he has a shady past, and most feel that he was just wanted to get some money and run. No one has heard anything from him for a long time, so it's assumed that the project is dead.
May 20, 200817 yr The Taft Technology Building was dedicated yesterday. It is going to be a big boost to the economy of downtown. Also note, the Reality Buildings had a ribbon cutting last week to announce the construction of 26 apartments in the 14 floor building. They will be converted into 2 bedroom apartments and from the sounds of it, they are going to sell fast. Two other buildings will be renovated in the coming 2-3 years into apartments; making downtown a place to live once again! http://media3.vindy.com/vindy/swf_flv/flash_video/2008/may/realty_building.flv
