April 6, 200817 yr best. office. ever. I was going to bring my record player to work, but work is a library. so I guess that's not gonna happen.
April 6, 200817 yr "We give our employees monthly RTA passes if they want, but it's not a realistic option for some of our guys that live way out in Twinsburg." Not sure if it would be an option (or ideal) for them but Akron's Metro service might be useful - the X60 has a stop in Twinsburg: http://www.akronmetro.org/Schedule%20PDFs/Spring%202008/28161%20x60-61_2.pdf clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 6, 200817 yr Yeah, I looked into that too. The issue was that in order for him to get to the office at a reasonable time, it'd be close to 1:45min commute. As it stands now, it's only 40 for him. Once we move the office, I have a feeling he;ll be looking for an apartment downtown. Tower Press was impressive, and right in the wheel-house for what my employees generally want.
April 8, 200817 yr What section should I start a build-out thread in? Or is this not the appropriate site for that kind of thing? In my other hobbies, we always have threads for projects the members are working on. Should I make one in this section? We're kinda doing that on out Blog, but I'd be happy to double-efforts if that gets more exposure for people moving their companies to Cleveland.
April 8, 200817 yr I've got some photos of build outs for the brewery: And the new wind break and way finder for building 44 (it lights up): Hopefully some interesting developments to post in the next few days... WW
April 8, 200817 yr ^^Mr. Doug... this would be a pretty appropriate thread for the build out, as you can see Weepin Willow posts these sorts of things whenever he can... and we lllllooooovvvvveeee pictures. :-)
April 9, 200817 yr Weepinwillow, I saw the Building 44 signage last night driving home and almost ran my car off the road!!! It looks really great, and plays well with the little courtyard it borders. I know I tend to gush about Tyler all the time, but I must say once again that this is one of the most interesting projects taking place in Cleveland, and it's a real shame that its visibility isn't higher.
April 9, 200817 yr Thanks 8shades.. we actually joked in the office that the 44 sign could cause accidents, so be careful out there. BTW, here's PC Helps' space: Just about ready to move in!
April 10, 200817 yr this is amazingly wonderful! we could use some good news about now no? and amenities that make sense, go figure :-)
April 11, 200817 yr http://www.apieceofcleveland.com/index.asp APOC (a tenant) has a new website up and running, the photo's of the nice conference table was shot in a space that I hope to eventually have very big news about. WW
April 11, 200817 yr ^APOC is pretty much my favorite new business ever- happy to hear they're in pretty much the coolest business center/incubator complex ever.

April 11, 200817 yr I know, I know.. look for a story in a local news source some feel maybe too, uh, down on Cleveland at times.
April 15, 200817 yr That is going to be EXCELLENT news when its released. And I love APOC's work also - incredible work from them.
April 16, 200817 yr fyi, really good story on sound of ideas today... John Zitzner just mentioned us on WCPN/NPR. So I'll follow it up saying that E-Prep is preparing to move here to Tyler Village in the fall. roughly 30,000 SF growing to as much as 100,000 SF.
April 16, 200817 yr This project is so interesting because it shows that if there are unique work spaces available, suburban companies are more than willing to move back into the city. ANd really, who would rather work in an office park than a refurbished warehouse with Lake and Downtown amenities and views? Just makes for a better work place.

Are these the folks from Erie?
April 16, 200817 yr we plan on knocking down as many historical buildings as possible to accommodate both a soccer field and expansive parking lots.. (j/k)
April 16, 200817 yr Unfortunately, that quote could be a serious one from more than a few Clevelanders of the past. Albert Porter comes to mind.
April 16, 200817 yr "ANd really, who would rather work in an office park than a refurbished warehouse with Lake and Downtown amenities and views? Just makes for a better work place." Believe me, they're out there - and they're scary. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
April 16, 200817 yr Unfortunately, that quote could be a serious one from more than a few Clevelanders of the past. Albert Porter comes to mind. I know.. though I sometimes feel like people cling a little TOO tightly to structures that are both functionally obsolete and have too many real problems tied to them to ever have them brought back. What's scary is we may see people protecting empty Super WalMarts some day as "historic" artifacts of our proud retail history. Eh. Anyway, we have plans for some open areas E Prep will be able to use on our campus.
April 16, 200817 yr ^I've thought about that. Like someday, will this really sweet new club open in an abandoned Best Buy?
April 17, 200817 yr My guess is yes, and it will be located in the Historic Power Center District of Phoenix.
April 17, 200817 yr My guess is yes, and it will be located in the Historic Power Center District of Phoenix. And the name of this club will be "God's Wait Room - West"
April 17, 200817 yr My guess is yes, and it will be located in the Historic Power Center District of Phoenix. Historic Power Center District?? Sounds like a lot of areas within Phoenix will be competing for that moniker. The future-day arts-district.
April 17, 200817 yr "ANd really, who would rather work in an office park than a refurbished warehouse with Lake and Downtown amenities and views? Just makes for a better work place." Believe me, they're out there - and they're scary. I work with a bunch of them. :(
April 17, 200817 yr to get back on topic, there is about to be a ton of work happening to the storefront section of building 44, as we start build-out on the fitness center and our 2 floor garage (built into floors 1 and 2 of 44, 44A and 47).
April 28, 200817 yr Cleveland schools, E Prep charter join forces Monday, April 28, 2008 Thomas Ott Plain Dealer Reporter The Cleveland School District and charter-school operator John Zitzner find that the old adage, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em," sometimes works for both sides. The district, which loses lots of kids to privately run, publicly funded charters, serves as the nonprofit sponsor that Zitzner's Entrepreneurship Preparatory School needs under Ohio law. E Prep, as the business-oriented school is called, is the only charter embraced by the city system. Cleveland school officials monitor Zitzner's charter in return for a sliver of its state aid. More important, the district can lump E Prep's promising test scores with its own and tout the charter as one of its specialty schools... April 28, 200817 yr One more article: New company reclaims old-growth wood from razed buildings Thursday, April 24, 2008 Fran Henry Plain Dealer Reporter There are dreams, harebrained schemes and promising business ideas. For a long time, Chris Kious wasn't sure which he had. But he couldn't stop thinking about the waste of sending old-growth wood to landfills after Cleveland houses and buildings were razed. He knew that beneath the wear, stains and gouges, the wood was beautiful and could be used again. Kious, housing services manager for the St. Clair-Superior Community Development Corp., was right. And after he wrote about reclaiming wood and other building materials for the group's March 2007 newsletter, he connected with P.J. Doran, 42, an Ohio City furniture maker. And a demolition contractor offered Kious a crack at salvaging materials from a building, the old Adelstein Pharmacy at East 79th Street and Cedar Avenue... http://www.apieceofcleveland.com/pdf/Plain_Dealer_4_24_2008.pdf
May 6, 200817 yr Hello! My name is Rachel Mattheis. I recently applied to PC Helps for a career (don't worry, I wont make my posts sound like an "please look how cool I am so hire me!" attempt) and i'm really interested in the progress they are making within the Tyler Building in Cleveland. I read that there will be a two-level parking garage? Oh that's such a relief! Safety is my biggest concern in the area PC Helps will be moving in to, and I was worried I would have to park on the streets. What amenities will the building have, if any? Also, when will the development be finished, roughly? Was thinking of taking a drive down there someday soon to check it out. 8-)
May 6, 200817 yr Welcome Radeona,  You might want to read a bit upthread as WeepingWillow post status about this project quite frequently.

May 7, 200817 yr and people wonder why there aren't many females on this board... :-) back to tyler...
May 7, 200817 yr anybody who wants a tour of what's happening at Tyler should feel free to set up a tour with me, just IM and we can work it out.
May 7, 200817 yr Hey thanks so much for the warm welcome! and lol KJP if its any consolation; sorry but i'm taken :)
May 7, 200817 yr Thanks goodness for another woman :). I was starting to wonder if there were any other women around here! I guess I should be used to that since I'm an engineer...

May 7, 200817 yr I'm also glad that more females are joining the forum*. I'll be even happier when this thread gets back on topic :-) *Public service announcement to all males - let the gals have about 10 or 20 posts before "propositioning". Trust me - just trust me. :-) clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
May 7, 200817 yr Haha, yes, I am a woman. Okay, sorry to go off topic, it's just something I've been wondering about since I started reading UO. Back to Tyler Village!
May 8, 200817 yr Safety is my biggest concern in the area PC Helps will be moving in to, and I was worried I would have to park on the streets. What amenities will the building have, if any? Also, when will the development be finished, roughly? Was thinking of taking a drive down there someday soon to check it out. 8-) Safety has not been an issue here at Tyler, or really much in the area. I know the midtown area has had a much bigger problem as does the E. 20th and Lakeside area. Amenities include an on-site restaurant, available covered parking, free wi/fi hot spots, a dog station and dog friendly offices, we're close to the freeways, close to downtown w/o the hassle of downtown, close to the clinic and university circle, Dave's supermarket is right around the corner, we'll have an on-site fitness center soon, we across the street from New AsiaTown Plaza where there will be a bunch of food options as well as an Asian grocery store and of course, the Town Fryer is right next door when you want some gumbo and fried catfish.
May 8, 200817 yr Welcome Radeona. I've lived just one block away from Tyler Village for the past two years and park on the street overnight all the time. I've never experienced any crime problems or even any situations where I was nervous. I've heard previously from one of the local CDC folks that Tyler is in the census tract has the lowest level of reported crime citywide. I haven't seen any firm data to verify this, but my experiences have been that it's incredibly safe. I've walked from the Town Fryer (next door to Tyler) past Tyler home at 2 a.m. in the morning before and it's always been perfectly fine. As with everywhere else, it definitely makes sense to be aware of your surroundings, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the neighborhood ... it's pretty amazing.
May 12, 200817 yr That sounds almost too good to be true! When I was using google maps to check out the area through street-view, it didn't look too promising. I was beginning to worry, and hoped the photos they took of the area were at least a half a year old. The Tyler building still looked run-down, from what I could see. Maybe it was when they had just started to build. Any updates on the site?
May 12, 200817 yr Tyler Village is finishing phase 1 of the build out of a 1.2 million square foot re-development. We kicked it off with building 44 on Superior. Now we are starting phase 2 now, which will have a good deal of impact on the 36th street buildings. The fact is this is a huge project, trying to eat the elephant all at once would be nearly impossible so we need to go in phases. Frankly, without visiting the campus there will be nothing I can really say to ease your perceptions about safety. I know it's a safe work environment, I know that the women who left the Beachwood offices of DigiKnow for the new offices at Tyler seem to enjoy the campus and will walk off campus to some of the local restaurants in the area.
May 12, 200817 yr Safety: I employ "nerds"... not fighters. If I felt that any of them were in harms way, we'd have picked somewhere else. When we had an office on W-6th that one of my employees got jumped out back of it. Un-lucky for the mugger, he picked a Kajukenbo Grand-Master, so it was more comical than anything.
