There are no lounges, bars and or live music venues clustered together anywhere outside of the Cincinnati CBD and neighborhoods. Not Montgomery, Kenwood, Blue Ash, Glendale, Anderson, Fairfield, Mason, Springdale or West Chester... About the only northern burb with a few bars walking distance from each other is Loveland and that's a stretch.

 

Glendale/Woodlawn has the Friendly Stop/Century Inn/Pike Bar march. Of course that area is unexplored territory to most Cincinnatians.

Where are you guys seeing the full tenant list?

 

The only announced tenants I'm aware of according to local media referenced in this thread are Dillard's, CineBistro, Dick's, and an AC Hotel by Marriott.

^Butler County also has an anti-pouching component to the Development agreement, so Steiner is not supposed to recruit tenants currently at Bridgewater Falls. Dick's was already controversal, but Dick's supposedly came to Steiner. I'm suspecting it actually ends up being a Field and Stream.

 

The Century Inn should now be the Two Century Inn.

The Dick's store won't be like any of the other area stores.  While they are single level 50,000 sq. ft. stores, this one will be an 80,000 sq. ft. two level upscale Dick's/Field & Stream hybrid.  According to Dick's Annual Report, they only build these larger two level stores in trade areas with the demographics to support them.

Looks to me like you both posted sarcastic comments at the same time. This is a tragic line-up and whoever thinks these run of the mill establishments will cause people to go to Liberty Center vs Kenwood who don't live in the immediate area need their heads examined. "Most exciting destinations....."HA!

Yeah, I'd say the only exciting aspect of Liberty Center is potentially shorter lines at the Kenwood Cheesecake Factory.  Go Steiner, go!

In no way, shape, or form is a bunch of bland chain restaurants exciting. What's outstanding about a bunch of overpriced food that can literally be found anywhere in this country? You even pointed out a development that's basically exactly the same yet in a completely different part of the country. Where's the local influence? Where's the uniqueness? Where's anything of any interest whatsoever? It's boring. I'm sorry, but this entire development is about as generic as you can get.

I'm breaking my boycott of this thread to point out that you guys that you should leave SAF be.  He/she is just earning the paycheck this week.

I will say the tenant list is.... disappointing. Nothing groundbreaking. Heck, whether we like to admit it or not, IKEA was groundbreaking. Easton Town Center was groundbreaking. The Greene, given Dayton's market size, was groundbreaking. This isn't.

 

But on the positive side, at least Steiner does seem to do a good job with their developments. Admittedly, it would be nice if The Greene did a better job integrating with Indian Riffle Park across the street, but overall it's well done. Also on the wish list would be a larger residential component, but at least that's an easy fix for whenever the day comes that the apartment complex due south of The Greene comes up for sale.

 

And Steiner, overall, isn't doing that bad of a job here. I saw earlier there was mention in their statements of a pedestrian bridge across 129 to integrate with Cincy Children's and Lakota East HS. Great move. I'm hoping traffic calming measures will be implemented at the intersection of Hamilton-Mason, Wetherington, and this (which I assume will have a main road that is directly across the street from a Wetherington road). If I was really getting optimistic, I'd be seeing another pedestrian bridge across I-75 that went to a section of offices and apartments, with nice sidewalks and maybe even a bikeway that lead right to the Voice of America park. That's what it could be, if it was done well. Steiner is about 2/3 of the way there.

 

The 1/3 that's lagging is the reliance on retailers. Stop building F$%^ing malls and start building places people want to be, if you're going to build anything at all. Steiner's formula is closer than Mills', but there's still a big gap.

It will be interested to see if they can land a comedy club. Right now, Ohioans have to travel to Kentucky for jokes. Pun intended...

"Go Bananas" doesn't get the same quality acts as Funny Bone.

In or around Montgomery Sneaky Pete's was the name of a bar on the basement floor (it was on a slope) and the comedy club was either upstairs or across the parking lot.  I can't remember the name because I never went to the comedy club.

What the hell?  They're actually approaching this as though its a Cincinnati mall?  Umm...this thing will not draw a single person up from Cincinnati.  The Northern burbs, yes...but the city?  Not buying it.

^Like the "Cincinnati" "Premium" Outlets an exit north haha. Complete with the fugly "Union Terminal" mock-up monstrosity that is their food court.

 

 

As for this, I don't understand why they decided to go with a 280k sq. ft. retail component attached to Dillard's (another 200k sq. ft.) out of 640k sq. ft. of retail total. That puts over 2/3 of the total retail in an enclosed mall. I thought this was supposed to be a lifestyle center? All they'll be building is the new version of Towne Mall (which btw is 450k sq. ft.).

Man, I know this is a month late, but you cannot compare a development that has Saks, Macys, and Dillards as anchors to one that has.... Dillards. Heck, my hometown, Sandusky, OH has a more exciting tenant list than this place so far: www.sandusky-mall.com

I'm really happy for Butler County. It looks likes it'll be a nice development for you all.

Good lord.

For a project of this scale, that's fairly common. There is interest in those payments, and seeing as how the project is 70% leased, it's a safe bet that this high quality development will be successful. Steiner + Associates does excellent work overall. Remember that Easton in Columbus cost $225 million for the initial two phases, which has spurred the development of pretty much everything around it. Sprawl? Sure, but Northgate wasn't coming down any time soon.

I honestly don't understand what they're thinking. There is absolutely no reason for anyone south of 275 to go to this place. Just like the lady in the article said, it's too far to go for a Dillard's. If they had some one of a kind stores then maybe it would draw some people, but Forest Fair already tried that and look how they turned out.

 

I honestly wish this project the best for the people of Liberty Twp, but I'm officially a skeptic.

After reading that article and seeing that quote from the township trustee (which really made me boil) I realized what "type of people" this place is being built for and they are basically not the type I would want to be rubbing shoulders with (although it is of course easy for me since I live 4 hours away).

 

I also noted the quote from the lady who is going to shop at the centers Dillards.  She said she would never shop at the Kenwood Dillards since it so far away.  So again, what makes them think that they are going to attract people from Hamilton county, even if they tout it as a regional shopping destination.  It this lady does not want to drive to Hamilton county, what makes them think the reverse is going to happen, especially with the tenant line up which is nothing special.  Maybe they can tout the "lack of crime".

This project is awesome!!  They are beginning to talk about a second department store.  I think it will be Macy's.  They want out of Tri-County Mall.

Mega-project Liberty Center already designed for future growth

LIBERTY TWP. —

The planned opening this fall of the $350 million Liberty Center will see construction on more than 1 million-square-feet of retail and dining, residential and office space completed and leased.

 

But that’s only the project’s first phase.

 

Future phases of construction at the Liberty Twp. site could more than double the floor space that’s now under construction, according to executives for the project’s developer Steiner + Associates of Columbus.

That's so awesome!!

 

But you can't post an entire article on here. Please provide 2-3 paragraphs and then put a link to the original article.

It's fine you think this project is somehow different than any of the other hundreds of sprawl "lifestyle centers" that have been built in this country, but do you intentionally come here with the "IT'S INCREDIBLE" rhetoric to stir things up?

 

It's bland. It's boring. The lineup isn't top notch, it's things like a Dillard's and a Cheesecake Factory. It's crap. Nobody except those directly surrounding the development will ever go there. Why would they? They're not even close to being destinations. It's the same things you can get anywhere else. Boring chains that have no personality and could be plopped anywhere in the country and you wouldn't know the difference. You're not going to find allies in this forum, it just seems futile.

I can't even eat at places like Cheescake Factory.  That's not food.  It's awful, msg infested crap.  I've been three times for friend or family related events, and I'll never go again to eat.  I'll attend, but just have a beer or cocktail.  The food gives me "the trots".

Jmicha, I honestly don't think SAF is trying to hype the place to the point of converting ithers. This place is palatial for the people north of 275 and I think the people up there are really honestly excited about it. Those who think that it will draw anybody up from Cincinnati are seriously naive but for that reason I'm thinking attacking those who think this project is fantastic is equally misguided.

 

Liberty Center is not being built for Cincinnatians.

I'm not attacking, it's just that pretending it's something it's not is what SAF has been doing this whole time. Like I said, he can be excited, but it's NOT a destination, it's nothing new and different, and the lineup is mediocre at best. That's fine if the people north of 275 are excited for it since they won't have to travel as far for those things anymore, but that's not what his posts have been about. They've been about how this is a game changer for Cincinnati, that it's going to draw from all over, that it's going to be poaching tenants from other shopping centers, etc. That's not being excited, that's being naive.

I've never been to a Cheesecake Factory, but don't hate on MSG. All of the hate it gets has been based on a small amount of anecdotal evidence. None of the supposed side effects have ever been observed in controlled studies. I keep a shaker of it and use it often when cooking. It actually allows me to use a minimal amount of salt, which is good because most people get several times the recommended value of sodium in their daily diets, which is actually unhealthy.

This wouldn't surprise me, with Dillard's pulling out of Tri-County, Macy's sees the writing on the wall. It's really hard to stop the bleeding of a dying mall. Much of Tri-County's demise was due to the $75 million pumped into Forest Fair Mall by the now defunct Mills Corporation and Springdale failing to invest in the shopping district by sprucing up the area.
