I am planning to relocate due to new employment in Solon.  Looking for apartment recommendations in in Solon and other communities surrounding Solon.  Thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

It depends how far from work you want to be as far as commuting.  Areas around Beachwood Place Mall have several apartments as does the Mayfield Road area in Mayfield.  MTS would definately reccommend Shaker area.  But a little more info on your likes, dislikes, family, single etc would help give suggestions.

I wouldn't suggest living in Shaker Square (and Lord knows I'd love to) or Shaker Heights as I think the 271/480 traffic would be murder.

Where is KStay2, IIRC he's from Solon.  He might be of assistance.

As is shs96.

I wouldn't suggest living in Shaker Square (and Lord knows I'd love to) or Shaker Heights as I think the 271/480 traffic would be murder.

I would like to have reasonable access to the downtown area.  I think the importance of commute will become directly proportional to the gas prices.  I do want a community with reasonable access to downtown via self or public transport (bus or train)

Well alrighty then!

Look at

  • Eastern Shaker
  • The Beachwood/Richmond Cooridor (near the mall)
  • There is an area just South/South East of Randall Mall, that "looks" nice but I don't know if its Bedford or Bedford Hts.

I still think that drive to and from Solon, no matter where you decide to live, will be murder as traffic is hell in that area.

Well, living in Solon and anywhere around Solon is not for the young, single, working professional who wants to hang out downtown in their spare time.  And "Solon" and "public transportation" are not compatible either.

If you want to live a more urban lifestyle when you aren't working, I would, as others have mentioned, look into apartments near Beachwood Mall or in Eastern University Heights.

Without knowing how old you are, what you're looking for, and what you like to do, its hard to reccomend anything beyond that.

How do you pronounce "Solon"?

"Sole un"

the only place I can think of geographically close that has a "community" feel is downtown Chagrin Falls-although it is small town like. Still pleasant b/c you can walk a lot of places if you live in the little town

I'd suggest Northern Summit county from Macedonia, Twinsburg, or Hudson.  From all those cities its pretty easy access via the uncrowded backroads to Solon unless you need to take 91.  I was looking at a few jobs in Solon that would've been 8-12 minute commutes.  Unfortunately I didn't get them.  From these locations its pretty easy access to Cleveland (20-25 minutes), Akron (15-20 minutes), and the Cuyahoga Valley (0-10 minutes).

Yeah, I'd stay away from living in Solon.  There's pretty much two options in Solon, Liberty Hills apts which are REALLY overpriced, and Solon Park apts which aren't bad, close to everything, etc.  Like MTS said, Beachwood area has a lot of good places, Mayfield also.  Streetsboro has a lot of options and is close.  If you need any advice on a particular place, let me know.

BTW MTS, I got a place finally, 77th & 1st.

77 and 1 Ave, why doesn't that surprise me?  ummmm.

Congrats on your first NYC apartment!

Haha.. why would I expect you to just say "cool" without some smartass comment haha.  That's right.. I gotta live in the only GOP foothold in NYC.

I could have sworn we had a way for members to communicate completely off-topic things between each other without posting in a thread....what was it called....?

LOL, I love MayDay's Master of the Obvious, obnoxiously large, The More You Know-type graphical posts.

I would look into an area around the end of the blue line (Warrensville/Chagrin) or eastern University Heights (around/east of JCU).  Both are close to the rapid (blue and green lines, respectively) and both will give you a reasonable commute to Solon.

You can avoid the freeway congestion by taking Green Rd. south to Harvard or Emery, over to Brainard, south to Cannon, and come down the parkway onto Aurora Rd.  It doesn't take very long and will save you traffic headaches.

Why is Liberty Hills overpriced?  Is there anything else I should know about Liberty Hills?

They're overpriced and they're not that nice for what you pay in the area.  Honestly, getting an apartment IN Solon isn't the best idea.  Look at Deer Run in Twinsburg, it's right at the Solon border and has a grocery store, bank, drug store, etc all right there.

Any apartment properties you would recommend in these three suburbs?

I like Chagrin Falls; its beautiful and beautiful.  I am now leaning towards Solon because of Asian Indian residents and good schools.

I'm assuming this means you have kids, that when you said "downtown" you meant "downtown Solon", and you actually have no interest in an urban lifestyle; the suburbs suit you fine.

You should probably go talk to a realtor.

Don't be an ass.. a realtor in Solon isn't going to help you find an apartment.  Are schools a top concern for you Seenu?

Yes, schools are a top concern.  I have heard good comments about Arthur Road Elementary School in Solon.

I lived out in that part of the metro area for 15 years. Solon schools had a good reputation, but the communities that had better rated schools were Orange, Chagrin Falls and Kenston (Bainbridge/Auburn). Orange was frequently one of the top rated, if not the top rated school system in Greater Cleveland.

Well according to Cleveland Magazine, Solon is still one of the top schools, fighting year after year with Chagrin for this honor.  Solon is also rated the top suburb according to this publication.  I don't remember Orange as being ranked #1 in the recent past, let alone top 5.  Also, with Orange, the taxes are higher than Solon.

The decision is up to you and where you feel comfortable, anywhere in that area your children will get a good education, you just need to find the right fit for you and your family.

Actually, your children will get a good education pretty much anywhere if you are a good parent and they have the will to learn.  But in Solon, they will be going to school with a higher percentage of children who fall into that category.

I didn't intend to be I was suggesting you should buy a house - hence talk to a realtor - not rent anything if you:

1.  Have kids

2.  Work in Solon

3.  School is important

4.  Intend to be in the area for at least 5 years

I didn't elaborate b/c there isn't much information given to elaborate on.

But renting in Solon is not something I would do - what is available isn't that great and, as others have mentioned, its overpriced relative to comparable rental properties in other cities.  So if you're moving to Solon for the school system, you might as well buy a house especially if you are going to be working in Solon.

My mom taught in Solon for quite some time - school system ranking was often discussed in my house.  From what I recall it was always swapping with Chagrin Falls for 1 or 2 in Cuyahoga County.  I don't remember Orange or Kenston being ranked higher.

But jam40jeff is right; if you're a responsible parent, any of those schools will be fine.

This is one of the best posts ever in response to a reference to school system rankings.

I hear you.

Thanks
