Posted May 30, 200817 yr On May 5, I attended a tour of the current School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) hosted by the Pendleton Neighborhood Council. The building housing the SCPA was built in 1907 as the fourth Woodward High School, a school dating back to 1831 and the oldest high school west of the Alleghenies. Due to shifts in population, Woodward High School moved to the neighborhood of Bond Hill in 1953, and the building became a junior high school. SCPA moved into the building in 1976-1977 and took full occupancy of all floors in 1978. A new building combining SCPA (grades 4-12) and Schiel Primary School (K-3) is being built on the other end of the neighborhood, near Washington Park. When the $62 million, 250,000-square foot building opens for the 2009-2010 school year, it will be the first K-12 arts school in the nation. Next week, I'll be posting some shots from the neighborhood and from the rooftop! May 30, 200817 yr Awesome! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 30, 200817 yr Pretty amazing. It's wonderful that so much of the building's original detail has been preserved, and it looks like they keep it in excellent condition. Regarding the Levi Coffin plaque - The Coffins later settled in Newport (now Fountain City), Indiana, and helped great numbers of fugitive slaves as they traveled northward. The Levi Coffin House is a designated National Historic Site beside US 27 in East Central Indiana. The Coffins were Quakers, as were many anti-slavery activists, and there's still a significant Quaker presence in that part of Indiana.
May 30, 200817 yr Isn’t this the school that Sarah Jessica Parker and Nick Lachey attended? But given its long history I’m willing to forgive them for that and just assume that it has produced some artists of real talent! (I would have given SJP a pass, but given the reviews of the new "Sex...City" movie her entire career will have to be re-evaluated) http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
May 30, 200817 yr I know a lot of girls who are going to see Sex and the City. I'd imagine it will do quite well in theaters, especially when you consider the movie probably has a pretty low budget. Theres a giant check hanging on the wall inside there for like 75k from Nick, he does help them out a little bit.

And come to think of it Sarah J. went there only briefly when she was very young (based on what I've read). And yes, the SATC movie is going to be huge; but then again, nobody goes to a Jessica Alba movie for the "plot" either! http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
May 30, 200817 yr I wouldnt go to SATC movie for SJP's frail body and face of meth. today's NY Times review described SJP's face as "Cubistic"--(written by a female reviewer, so I guess they couldn't be accused of sexism!) http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/
May 30, 200817 yr Peter Griffin: "They let Sarah Jessica Parker's face on TV and she looks like a foot."
May 30, 200817 yr I wouldnt go to SATC movie for SJP's frail body and face of meth. HEY! HEY! HEY!! watch that!
May 30, 200817 yr HBO should have gotten a better casting director (me) Why? HBO didn't make the movie! Honey, kick back with a martini and chill!
