Posted May 31, 200817 yr Point Breeze is a wealthy residential neighborhood in Pittsburgh's East End. It's essentially a residential extension of neighboring posh (and more well-known) Shadyside and Squirrel Hill (though it does have a somewhat distinct atmosphere). Point Breeze is also adjacent to the vast wilderness of Frick Park and the much smaller Mellon Park. Lush tree canopies hover over diverse residential styles ranging from attractive middle class homes to luxurious mansions. this secluded area is near the northern gate of Frick Park a verdant trail leading into the park the immaculately groomed lawn bowling courts parkside housing Reynolds St. canopy there is so much vegetation here... it can be hard to find the houses! Point Breeze has a tiny, but charming, business district the Point serves up Belgian fare Pino's was having tapas night... and Make Your Mark Artspace & Coffeehouse is always a delight encounter in Mellon Park one of the many Beechwood Blvd. mansions lush!

May 31, 200817 yr Wow what a great neighborhood. I love seeing the pictures of nice Pittsburgh neighborhoods because my mental picture of the typical hood there is very dense houses with lots of over head wires, and those hideous awnings that the city is famous for. And this is coming from someone who's dad grew up in the South Hills and still has half the family up in Pittsburgh, meaning I know the city fairly well.
May 31, 200817 yr great thread. pitts has the most scenic looking neighborhoods around. re the pics -- you hit the magic hour, but did you use filters or some post-shot photoshopping on those?
May 31, 200817 yr looking at those beautiful houses makes you wonder how anyone who needs that much house would move to some horrible sub division (ditto for any city really). Timewise, I wonder how far they are from downtown 'PTG.
May 31, 200817 yr anyone who needs that much house correction: "anyone who [wants/thinks they need] that much house"
May 31, 200817 yr great thread. pitts has the most scenic looking neighborhoods around. re the pics -- you hit the magic hour, but did you use filters or some post-shot photoshopping on those? just used the editing software that came with my camera... simple stuff like sharpening, saturation and brightness adjustment
May 31, 200817 yr looking at those beautiful houses makes you wonder how anyone who needs that much house would move to some horrible sub division (ditto for any city really). Timewise, I wonder how far they are from downtown 'PTG. Because you can buy "that much house" for a lot less in some horrible subdivision (though the quality of the construction will be vastly inferior)... plus you get around the city's pesky wage tax... plus it seems like it's been a point of pride amongst many to live as far away as possible from the city or their job... though gas prices might put that foolish notion to rest... plus you get what is perceived to be a vastly superior school district (though the schools Point Breeze feed into are rated very highly) Mapquest says it takes 13 minutes (6.4 miles) to get from Point Breeze to Downtown.
June 1, 200817 yr if anyone (I remotely know ) from Cleveland is going to Pittsburgh to see this stuff, let me know. I tried to go to Ikea as part of a multi purpose Pitt trip, and it was being remodeled and pretty much useless. I refuse to drive there for just Ikea anymore as a statement for building in Cincinnati instead of Cleve. Plus it is sort of wasteful. Yet. there are some items I can only get at Ikea. I could send a list and some dough. This stupid place has very little available on line either. We actually ran into fellow Cleveland friends there-equally po'd as they made the trip only for Ikea. I also want to recommend Fat Heads on the Southside. It is a sandwich and microbrew heaven. www.fatheads.com. Really good German in Pitts too.
June 3, 200817 yr Goregeous shots. Love your software settings that brought out the different lush hues so brightly... Very inviting; this looks a lot like a Heights area... I hate the Steelers but can vouch that Pittsburgh has many interesting, inviting neighborhoods ... like this one.
June 4, 200817 yr Another hood for me to bring my bike to! Looks like someone likes to tinker with their saturation settings.
