University of Michigan and University of Toledo: Secret Underground Connection?

Featured Replies

I've always suspected Toledo chose blue and gold for its colors to pay homage to Mother Michigan. Now it seems my suspicions are correct...

From the president of Michigan:

When you tell people in Ann Arbor that you are heading south to Ohio to give a commencement address, their eyebrows go up a little.

So I assure them, “No, no, this is a friend, not a foe. Like Michigan, this university is gold and blue. This university has a rich history, a great engineering college, and remarkable students.”

Eh, both schools are trash so it makes sense.

How terrible would it be to have another school's president give your commencement?

I would feel insulted. But then again, I had Maya Angelou and I was insulted too.

Hey, leave that old bag alone!

We had David Halberstam. He talked a bit about the importance of land grant colleges, which, while true, would've been better suited for State. Oops. That's all I remember.

The loudest boos were reserved for the valediction from a girl from South Bend.

I wouldn't want her speaking at my graduation.  The way she continued to tell all of the state of Michigan she knew best for all of us and we had better not pass Proposal A.

When I graduated from the fine University of Toledo, then Attorney General Betty Montgomery wished us all lots of great sex.

I actually was thrilled to have Maya speak at our graduation.  Having been to a few other college graduations, she was definitely by far the best speaker at any of the ones I have attended.
