See the prices at the gas stations now? These are the new "good old days." Next year, diesel fuel will higher still. And starting in some winter (this winter or next), you may not see any price signs for diesel on some station's signs -- because there won't be any diesel fuel in some places!

^ Curious, why do you say that?      Is demand going to be too much or the price or both?

Damn you KJP!

My wife still gets 52MPG on her commute to work so not all is lost. :)

Especially this part.....

In his presentation to the National League of Cities, Whipple predicted the first shortages of diesel will hit during a winter when heating oil is at its highest demand. He publicly said it was possible that the shortages could start this winter, but the winter of 2009-10 was more likely.

I sold my F-250 Powerstroke Diesel pickup a few years ago, and I missed it for a while. Now, I'm happier every day about that decision.

Seventeen MPG didn't seem so terrible, back then.

I can't imagine traveling halfway across the country in that rig now.

^^ Wow, that makes you think.    My buddy just showed up at my house Sat. to show me his new diesel F-350.          I pretty much laughed my ars off.    40,000 bones is alot to waste on something with an uncertain future. ( That applies to new gasoline cars and trucks too.)

F-350?  Shesh what MPG does a vehicle like that get anyway?

^Newer ones might be pushing 13-15.

If he has a business need for that type of truck, the F-350 is probably one of the best rigs out there in its class; mechanically and structurally it's pretty near bulletproof. If he drives a big truck for image, tricks it out with all kinds of after-market gadgets and appearance trinkets and never uses it as a truck, it's a pretty expensive ego trip that won't be easy to come back from.

Tell him to get a Diablosport programmer for the truck and set it to "Road Kill Larry" for an extra 135 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque.

And eliminate all traces that he ever did that, before he takes it in because the transmission blew or something else broke "in-warranty"!

That's like saying, "Please use crack responsibly."
