I am currently attending Northern Kentucky University and am criminal justice major, with less than one year until i graduate. I'm keeping my options open once i graduate, so im not sure what i am going to do yet.

i went to case western reserve university and graduated with a BA in Political Science

I went to the one and only Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in beautiful Terre Haute, IN, where I graduated with a BS in Computer Science and Mathematics with a minor in Political Science. Monday I start my new job here in Chicago doing computer security consulting.

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, skipped college and now work for a major local hospital group as a System Administrator.

I went to the University of Cincinnati (originally majoring in architecture, but receiving a B.A. in Classics) and then went to Princeton University where I got my M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics. I taught Latin, Greek and ancient history for 30 years before retiring in January.

I attended Kent State University ("Kent" read, "Kent" write, "Kent" duck... lol) initially as a Graphic Design major, but switched to Fine Craft (jewelry/metalsmithing). My minor was always in Art History.

 

My last year (1996) was really rough (amongst other things, a close friend was killed in a car accident) so I decided to take a break. The break ended up taking quite some time, so I currently don't have my BFA.

 

Nevertheless, I quickly got a job as a graphic designer and have been working in the industry ever since. That's why I'm always baffled by people who say there aren't creative jobs in Cleveland.

 

On a side note (and sorry to sound like a broken record), I developed clevelandskyscrapers.com in 1999 and in 2003 I wrote a book about architecture in downtown Cleveland which was published by Arcadia Publishing.

I (currently) attend The Ohio State University (senior year) and in Landscape Architecture. I currently work for Greenscapes Inc. and founded (with RichNcincy) Cincinnatiuprise.com and, eventually, this site.

I am an alum of Ohio State University (class of 2002) with a BA in Geography.

I am technically unemployed, but spend my time as the unofficial office manager for the Columbus Blues Alliance. Besides ocasionally checking the mail and answering machine, I am officially the Membership Coordinator for said group and write record reviews and ocasional articles for our newsletter as well.

As of August, I will be moving from C-bus to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to enroll in Louisiana State's Graduate program.

 

Since we're all mentioning our websites. I am one half of the team that maintains Roadfan.com. For the uninitated, it covers the highway history of Ohio, Michiana, Philadelphia, Pa, Mississippi Delta, Lincoln Highway, and the proposed I-73 project. Along the way I photograph bridges, goofy highway signs, and urbanscapes in Ohio and beyond (which some of you love to post on the Skyscraperpage forums). I was mentioned in a column by Joe Blundo (of the Columbus Dispatch) in Sept. 2002 due to roadfan.com and I had a photograph published in an edition of (Cleveland) Builders Exchange in Feburary 2003 as well.

No, we're strictly on the design side of the business. Columbus has a TON of civil firms, so you should have no problem finding a job! EMH&T, TransSystems, WD Partners, Moody/Nolan, DLZ, Burgess & Niple, etc, etc, etc,

I just wish they had some kind of urban planning/city planning degree at NKU, where I attend.

At least you have Urban Planning as an undergrad program.

You can only take Urban planning as a minor (as an undergrad) at Ohio State. Their primary focus up here is graduate work. :mad3:

Bah, I know, I know...I kid because I love....

 

They are actually making themselves over quite well--being picky on who they let in, building actual student housing, talk of a large on-campus arena. They're making great strides from being a minor commuter school to being a full-fledged university.

I graduated from Penn State University in 1980 with a BS in Social and Behavioral Sciences. I got into property management in DC. For the last 5 years I've been the Asst. Prop Mgr at the US Secret Service hdqtrs in DC, recently promoted to Prop Mgr. :)

I've been a farm kid, tool and die maker, spent a little time at Purdue and a little more at Indiana U, gave Uncle Sam 4 years in the USAF, worked as an accountant for longer than I liked, and retired in 2000 from IBM Global Services as a PC Support guy on a contract site with an insurance company. Now I indulge my long-term interest in photography and work on my old house in a city neighborhood in Fort Wayne. Recently I started a web site to share some photos at http://www.robertpence.com/

I graduate in 05 in urban planning at Cincinnati. I've worked in a real estate office and for an urban design firm in Chicago. I need a new internship in January that gets me out of Ohio. Any takers?

Then two years after that, I guess it's on to the real world doing somethingorother.

I'm considering urban planning as a possible major for college but am unsure as to what exactly they do. And im really bad at art which i hear is somewhat important to the major.

What subfield of Geography are you studying at OWU? Or better yet, do you wish to stay in Geography or go to a different field for your masters?

If you think along those lines, you'll find a program (and school) you'll like (or you can capituate and go to OSU instead :D )

 

BTW, it doesn't matter how bad you are at art. It's all about visualizing/imaginating and communicating your ideas to others. Afterwards you learn how to operate Computer Aided Design program/systems :)

Graduated from Sinclair with an Associate's in Computer Information Systems, and have A+ and Network+ Certifications.

 

Currently working at NCR Headquarters in Dayton, but not working in my field. I plan on going back to Sinclair very soon to work on my associate's in Radiology.

I was a Music Composition major at CCM for one year, then a physics major at CWRU for two years, then studied to be a priest at Borromeo and St. Mary's Seminary in Wickliffe, got a degree from John Carroll in philosophy, left the seminary, lived in Eastlake, Middleburg Heights and Euclid, then moved back to Cincinnati (and lived in O'Bryonville, Clifton and Walnut Hills). I work as a programmer, am delightedly married for 2 years, and now that I'm a homeowner, I'm truly discovering the joys of renting...I miss getting to know new areas intimately...wish I could spend a couple years in Mt. Adams (even without a view), a couple years in Pleasant Ridge, a couple years in Covington, a couple years downtown, a couple more years in the gaslight...

I moved to Cincinnati just to move somewhere, shake things up, and a friend worked in a company that needed people to answer the phone...I got what I thought was a temporary job, then started handling letters, then looking at results, then querying the database, then building files, then fixing bugs in code, then taking on new projects, then everyone in IT quit but me, etc...we're a Foxpro shop, so it's not as useful a skill as C or VB or something, but it's powerful and fun. We're converting to .Net/SQL, so hopefully I'll pick up some actually marketable skills in the process...

Well, OWU is too small to allow for specialized study in any subfield, but my interests are in cartography/GIS and urban geography. I will be applying to Masters programs in Geography at OU, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, and Maryland. (Don't ask why those particularly- they're just what was left after whatever my process of elimination was... but if you know any to be good or bad choices, do advise.) I've got to start sending stuff this week because stupid Wisconsin has the ridiculously early deadline of Dec. 1.

I would stay in Cincinnati for my co-ops if there were firms here that did urban design or new urbanism, but there aren't any on our list. They are all out of town. As to why specifically I don't want to stay in Cincinnati after I graduate? Well I think you've always known I'm down on this city. But, specifically, because:

 

1) I've lived here for the better part of 20 years and I want to try something new.

 

2) There are no development companies or firms doing New Urbanism in this market area.

 

3) Planning is politics, and outside of the city of Cincinnati, which no longer has a planning department, there are no liberal-controlled municipal governments, and none that has adopted a form-based zoning code. (sorry, some planning lingo.)

 

I hope that's specific and fair enough for you.

Are you looking for an either/or or a combination of both?

I know Wisconsin is strong for cartography while Minnesota is strong for Urban. Maybe give Rutgers a look see (if you haven't cross them off your list).
