Okay, she's no Love Boat, but the Goodtime III is one of my favorite ways to see Cleveland - and the weather couldn't have been more cooperative. Last night was the G.I.F.T. (Gay Invitational Fellowship Tournament) cruise - a benefit for local gay bowling leagues, and with the great weather everyone wanted to get out and enjoy the evening - so it was a boatload of gays - get it? Boatload, nyuk nyuk. Anyway...

There's our trusty craft!

When the moon hits your eye... well, I guess it's a little too far to do that:

At Voinovich Park there was a hoopty (sp?) show - so you had cruising queens and the hip-hop car crowd mingling on the pier - I love this country!

Like this skyline? Get used to it, there'll be a few more shots:

Now, I don't know WHAT kind of dork would call their friend who lives in an apartment facing the river just to say "Like OMG, we're going right by your place!!!". Okay, guilty as charged:

And Goodtime III's bar now serving Great Lakes beer + D'Vine Wine Bar + Velvet Tango Room + Twist = one H#LL of a night!  :drunk:

nice MayDay!  I'm Cleveland-warm-and-fuzzy all over now!

When the moon hits your eye... well, I guess it's a little too far to do that:

MAYDAY!!!  Don't tell me you're a huge fan of Moonstruck starring Cher and Nicholas Cage too...

Great photos, I am SO excited to get out there.  I've decided to visit East Cleveland on Thursday so don't let our fellow flamers burn too much of it down.

I can't get enough of your skyline...the word that always comes to mind is "fierce."

Keep 'em comin'

Here I decided to crop Milwaukee's tallest into your photo to show why I'm so jealous:

CLEMKESkyline.jpg

There's tree kinds a pipe...

Very Nice MayDay.

Nice set as usual MAYDAY.

I like how the skyline looks with Milwaukee's tallest in it, it balances it out some. Maybe when 515 Euclid eventually gets built...

Awesome! we saw the goodtime go by as we were sitting in Settlers Landing park after dinner in te WHD. We noticed how busy it was-just packed! What a perfect night for it. I am kind of bummed there is no picture of us. We are sitting on a bench and I wearing a pink print linen skirt...I digress. As always great GTiii pics

Ps- finally GLBC beer on the goodtime. It is about D-time!

Very nice shots Mayday.  Had to do a double take on the Stonebridge friend.  Thought for sure it was my daughter, until I realized there are no apartments below her.

Nice article in the Cincy Enquirer about the Goodtime's 50th anniversary.  May be time to take another cruise.

Very Nice! I really like that shot from the east.

A fabulous skyline viewed by a boatload o' fabulousness! It don't get no better'n dat!

Whoa, some beautiful shots in there.  Too many fun/lovely ones to pick out (OK, I'm a sucker for those sunset over the water pics).

Looks like a good time was had by all, especially Clevelands own first mate, MayDay.

Thanks for the tour.

Nice.

Great set!  I love the ones of the rusty bridges.

I saw all of that smoke from Quigley Road, but thought it was the steel mill taking advantage of the EPA and City of Cleveland being closed for the weekend.  :|

i loved the peek-a-boo shot and this one

Beautiful pictures, Mayday!

Ajknee, I feel your pain.  I grew up in Cleveland and now live in Port Washington.  The Milwaukee skyline makes me a little sad remembering what I left behind in Cleveland.

Outstanding photos, Mayday!!

All of these Cleveland threads are making me want to come out and visit the city so bad.  When is the next meet?!?! lol

Wonderful photos as usual!

Flamers out for a cruise ....who'da thunk it?!?!

Great pics as usual MayDay

The sunset shot should be sold to Cleveland+

1. Why do critics bust on the cantilevered truss spans?  I like them.

2. I could see that fire from Kirtland--I was cycling through Chapin Park on Saturday night

3. Boffo pics--Please tell me what kind of camera you were using.

Wow, that was one of the best sets of photos that I've seen on UO (and the only competition are some of your other photo threads). Additionally, that is the best/funniest commentary that I can remember. Great job!

driving east on rt. 2/90 in early summer when the sun is just coming up over the horizon (this only happens for a few lucky days)..the sun reflects off the buildings downtown and makes them orange.  I first witnessed this amazing phenomenon about 3 or 4 years ago as I was getting on the freeway to go to my part time job (would have been like 5:45 AM-ish, but this was before we extended daylight savings time).  as I was merging onto the freeway in Euclid and looked in my rear view mirror I saw the buildings and thought they were on fire.  That's how "orange" they were, from the sun!  I didn't want to take my eyes off the buildings, it was so beautiful...crisp but dusky blue sky with perfectly rectangled, outlined and shaded, orange buildings.

Even if I started carrying my camera in my car, I doubt I'd be able to get a decent pic.  Has anyone else seen this?  Anyone want to hitch a ride in my backseat at 5:45 AM on a Saturday so we can get some pics?  lol :)

That view from Kirtland is

do you know how to access gildersleeve mountain in kirtland?  i want to see this from there:

That view from Gildersleeve Mountain is located at the "Scenic View" on this map of Chapin Forest Park: http://www.lakemetroparks.com/parks/CFTrailMap.pdf

I rode my bicycle past that view point on Sunday.  I go there "all the time" because the park has XC ski trails that they blaze and track with a machine.  The employee in charge of skiing is a ski enthusiast, and he records ski conditions on the trails every day all winter, sometimes twice a day.  You can find the park here: http://www.lakemetroparks.com/select-park/chapin.shtml or Google "chapin forest" kirtland on Google Maps.

The other view of Cleveland is from the Lake County Historical Society building on Little Mountain in Kirtland Hills off of Little Mountain Road.  It is labeled as "History Center" on this map for Holden Arboretum.  (I highly recommend visiting Holden Arboretum) : http://hikingohioparks.com/images/Directional-Map-Holden-Arboretum.bmp

Both of these vantage points are on extra tough conglomerate bedrock called "Sharon Conglomerate" that was so hard that the glaciers did not scrape them away.  The rock is 330 million years old, if I recall correctly.  That is about 30 million years newer than the other bedrock in this area.  It got its name because the quartz "lucky stones" in the conglomerate were believed to have washed down into Ohio in an alluvial flood plain bringing the quartz from near Sharon, Pennsylvania.

One of these days, MayDay is going to tell me what camera he is using.

^Thanks.  My sweetie's Canon takes pictures that come up kind of "indigo chromey looking".  I used to lug around a Minolta SRT 201 for a decade until I bought a 35mm Yashica T4 Super.  That's right--I am still shooting film.  Now I know what brand to look for when I go shopping.

It been coined "stonehenge sunset/sunrise".  It happens in Chicago and New York as well.

If you stand on certain streets at the end of May you get great visuals.

Manhattanhenge is the proper term in NYC, MTS.. get it right  :shoot:

I'm coming up blank on what the building is to the right of the North Point Tower. I realize that it is not downtown but what is it?

^ Thanks. The views from that building must be amazing!

hmm..thanks for the reference but to be picky, it's not exactly what I saw.  The pic in the link below is more like it because as I'm facing east and looking back at downtown, the sun reflects the buildings, making them appear as if on fire.

Reflected gold

The others are neat but show the sun aligned between the buildings, not reflected on them.

Just an fyi, Minolta was acquired by Konica, which then sold the camera division to Sony (or something like that). If you're planning to get a DSLR, go with a Canon or Nikon. I would not pay $599 for a Minolta Z6 today (that's the current price on Amazon).
