I know that several proposals for this site have been made and never panned out, such as the new Reds stadium and also some sort of slot machine casino.

My thinking now is that with fuel prices as high as they are and with such horrible congestion on the highways leading to the suburbs, the light rail topic surely is going to gain more and more steam in the coming months.  If/when the light rail is made, were there any spots in place for the downtown terminal for the trains coming into and leaving?  What do you think of Broadway Commons possibly being used as the downtown station for the trains?

I thought the Riverfront Transit Center under Second Street was supposed to be the light rail hub.

Should this be in transportation?

I'm not familiar with the Riverfront Transit Center.  Is that what the stairs are leading down to along the sidewalk?

The Light Rail discussion in the city occurred before I moved here, so I don't know too much about except that it was a huge mistake to vote it down.  any further details I would appreciate

The Riverfront Transit Center runs below Second Street, although it's currently underutilized.

I would also motion to have this merged into the streetcars and light rail thread.

You want this in the Cincinnati streetcar/light rail thread?

Isn't that thread supposed to be a catch all for all Cincinnati lightrail & streetcar conversations?

^Speaking of which, now that there is a fairly concrete plan for streetcars in Cincy, and no word on light rail, should that thread be split into separate Streetcar and Light Rail threads?  I mean, it's already at 150 pages and growing FAST.  If one of the local politicians puts forth a light rail agenda in the next year, that thread will be huge, so maybe this one should become the Cincy Light Rail thread and we can rename the 150 page beast to something more appropriate to specifically the Streetcar discussion that has dominated it.

I would agree. I think that's a great idea. Good luck to the mod that has to seperate that thread out and pull out the light rail posts from the streetcar ones.

^Wow.  Separating would be way too much effort!  Just make a declaration that the current thread is now for streetcars and be done with it.  98% of the posts are about streetcars after about page 20 anyway.  Then just start with a brand new Cincinnati Light Rail thread.

How about a regional transit or a regional rail transit thread? Light rail and streetcars are compatible modes and often cannot have very similar characteristics. I can foresee a lot of cross-posting between separate streetcar and light rail threads. I would keep them in the same thread.

However, regional rail/regional transit is enough of a different animal that it could warrant its own discussion, especially with Portune and others proposing it. I'll leave it up you folks in the Greater Cincinnati area to start one.

BTW, I would keep the Eastern Corridor separate since it is a specific planning effort/project.

Or just delete it. :)
