January 21, 201510 yr This was published Jan. 11th 2015 but all the pictures would indicate that she was here this summer. Cleveland, Ohio- It’s Not Just the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame When you hear Cleveland, Ohio rust belt and rock and roll first come to mind, but there is more to this city than music and metal. Multi-million dollar redevelopment projects and new business is playing a key role in the revitalization of a city once rusted over in an economic downturn. Energy and city pride is a constant here, which is why, on any given weekend, the city comes alive with festivals, welcoming eclectic neighborhoods and a colorful outdoor scene that starts with one of the most visited National Parks- Cuyahoga Valley. The resurgence continues with prideful small business owners building community in ways ranging from hosting run clubs, screen printing clever Cleveland shirts and bringing trendy new restaurants to the social scene. Here are 10 reasons to experience the energy. http://catchcarri.com/cleveland-ohio-its-not-just-the-rock-roll-hall-of-fame/

January 29, 201510 yr 5 Public Markets Worth Traveling For The public market has been around almost as long as civilization itself. Even an event as relatively recent as the founding of our country was celebrated at the old public markets that served each town as a a central meeting place. Today, even with all of the Walmarts and Sams’s Clubs across the country, there is still something to be said about buying something local, from a local or made from a local. Here are five great examples of markets that are still thriving today. West Side Market – Cleveland, Ohio Cleveland’s oldest continuously operating municipally owned market opened in 1912 serving the growing population boom of the early 1900s. The building stands 241 feet by 214 feet with a 137 foot tall clock tower and when opened contained 109 stands selling everything from meats to produce to hard-to-find ethnic foods. Today 113 vendors sell their wares and are as diverse as the ethnical make up of the city, with some of the tenants even dating back to the original 1912 opening. Food network magazine named West Side Market “America’s Best Food Lover’s Market.” http://www.travelpulse.com/news/features/5-public-markets-worth-traveling-for.html https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/

March 13, 201510 yr Turning some kind of corner? Clevelanders (finally) hot on their hometown: Survey shows a majority of residents would recommend the city to outsiders CLEVELAND, Ohio - It seems we're starting to like ourselves. And - this probably is no coincidence - others apparently are starting to like us, too. Destination Cleveland, the region's tourism arm, released this week some strong evidence that the city's deep feelings of insecurity and self-loathing may be waning. In a recent survey commissioned by the organization, 54 percent of Greater Clevelanders said they would recommend the city as a travel destination. And if that doesn't seem like a high percentage, consider this: Three years ago, the same question yielded an embarrassingly low 34 percent of residents who said they would suggest Cleveland to would-be visitors. Even Detroiters felt better about their hometown than we did. http://www.cleveland.com/travel/index.ssf/2015/03/clevelanders_are_finally_hot_o.html#incart_river
March 13, 201510 yr I love the positive news, but whoever the pro-Cleveland commenter (BigRichard) is, is really going about their arguments very immaturely. It's actually quite embarrassing.
March 13, 201510 yr Much agreed my friend. Let me just point out that I am very happy to hear this. I just hate how anymore, the comments section devolves into City vs. Burbs (and I am a resident of the city just to clarify)

March 18, 201510 yr Was walking through the Flats today and saw Air Force One fly overhead to land at Hopkins. Really cool to see that massive jet fly over downtown. Was also cool to observe the juxtaposition of Air Force One with some very "Clevelandy" industrial aesthetics. There was an orange helicopter circling downtown with what appeared to be a United State Air Force insignia on it. Also saw a huge C130 fly over the city at about 3:30 heading west.
March 22, 201510 yr Yes, Cleveland really does rock There is no stopping the tide. Cleveland’s once gritty industrial landscape lost its manufacturing base years ago, and people left town. Today, they’re moving back home. Generation Y and millennials are charging up their own economic engine. High-tech jobs, world-class health facilities, and a revived cultural scene are giving this once Rust Belt city an exciting new look. There’s a newfound optimism and local pride, a can-do attitude. The city will host the Republican National Convention next year, and they’re still celebrating the return of basketball superstar LeBron James. (His “Second Coming” homecoming banner is back up on the side of the Cavaliers’ stadium). But it’s more than LeBron and the GOP. Clevelanders are rejoicing in their own homecoming. They see their city as a vibrant, future-forward metropolis making the most of its new found stature. http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/travel/2015/03/21/cleveland-rocks-city-makes-comeback/vjYMflq7YdCoffMNJraG3H/story.html
March 22, 201510 yr "The city’s free trolley service operates daily and can drop you off at the Sweet Moses Soda Fountain and Treat Shop for classic sundaes with its own homemade ice cream." "The Cle (as the locals say) has always been a cultural powerhouse, financed by the city’s pioneering industrialists — John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie — who spent lavishly to give it treasures for the ages." I'm glad to hear that RTA extended the trolley system to Detroit-Shoreway and that Andrew Carnegie was actually from Cleveland and not Pittsburgh like I had mistakenly always believed...
March 22, 201510 yr And the Joseph Carabelli neighborhood of Little Italy is more turn of the century rather "than mid 1800's." But who needs details anyways with such coastal positive press?? :)

March 24, 201510 yr Cleveland Named Seventh Best Food City in America by Travel + Leisure Travel + Leisure recently called on its readers to rank America's best food cities, as well as each city's most crave-worthy features, from street vendors and cafes, to gourmet markets and upscale eateries. Cleveland, it seems, impressed on both accounts, ranking seventh out of 20 cities. http://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-heard/archives/2015/03/24/cleveland-named-seventh-best-food-city-in-america-by-travel-leisure
March 24, 201510 yr I agree that Cleveland is a top 10 food city. I challenge the integrity of the list based on the cities ahead of Cleveland (with the exception of Minny). Unless someone can tell me that Houston, Atlanta, Albuquerque and KC are head over heels incredible food cities, I find it hard to believe. I believe there are only a handful of cities that have better food than Cleveland: Seattle, Portland, San Fran, NYC, DC, Philly. I would listen to Chicago and Boston. Houston?!!!
March 24, 201510 yr ^Have you been to Houston? They have an incredible dining scene. From very high end, to Texas BBQ. Chefs from Jean Georges to Tom Colicchio have outposts there. I don't like the city, but to suggest they don't have a very good dining scene means you don't have the facts.

March 28, 201510 yr Interesting article about Hingetown: Can One Young Guy Lift Cleveland Out of Misery? (No, Not LeBron James) http://talkingpointsmemo.com/theslice/can-graham-veysey-make-cleveland-not-suck “To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”
March 28, 201510 yr Aaaahhhh the splendid backhandedness. Thanks but no thanks. Interesting article. I guess I too am behind the times because I assumed that block was still gay-themed ... but as Seinfeld famously noted: "Not that there's anything wrong with that."
March 28, 201510 yr I found the article fascinating. Cleveland is reclaiming its old bones. Can E.55 and Broadway be next please?!? :)

You seem to have an extreme coastal bias, yet have convinced yourself that Cleveland is second only to Chicago for hotspots between the coasts. Can't speak to the food scenes in Albuquerque or Atlanta which I imagine to be very culturally rich, but KC actually gets a ton of food tourism. Ever heard of BBQ? I always drop in at Arthur Bryant's or Oklahoma Joe's when I'm passing through KC. Houston is also widely regarded as a top foodie city. Houston's metro is experiencing the largest aggregate growth of any metro in the nation right now, adding over 100,000 residents in 2014. It's also a city that has the third-most embassies, counts foreign royalty among its residents, and is so congested that the market preference has shifted to high-density infill. https://nextcity.org/daily/entry/ashby-high-rise-lawsuit-houston-developers-sprawl Rag on Houston all you want, but you only make yourself look behind the times.
March 29, 201510 yr Not necessarily behind the times, as much as having no desire to go to Texas ( other then austin- which where are they on the list??) Maybe someday I'll go visit Houston. But probably not. We are talking about a list that states that Albuquerque, New Mexico has better food than New York city...come on now

April 19, 201510 yr Since there has been so much discussion about Toronto v. Cleveland these past few days.....they're looking to us? The comment section is interesting, it seems like the disaffected are ubiquitous on comment boards regardless the city - some nice things about Cleveland in there too. Anchored in hope: How Toronto is learning from Cleveland’s return to prosperity After decades of economic and social despair that once saw it named the poorest big city in America, Cleveland has become a model of revitalization, thanks to a unique “anchor strategy” that harnesses the immense wealth and power of the city’s public institutions. Now, Toronto is taking a hard look at how the Comeback City’s done it. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2015/04/18/anchored-in-hope-how-toronto-is-learning-from-clevelands-return-to-prosperity.html
