Haha! I was always sort of bewildered reading the newspaper for movie times and seeing my non-descript-nowhere- special NJ hometown had sixteen screens while Staten Island had like, two.

haha yeah --

they say there is more to come on north shore staten, so hang on!

of course, they have been saying that for 30yrs, so don't hold your breath lol.

for example, we will actually have to walk around a giant 7/8ths built apt building next to the ferry that went bankrupt.

but we do have the new outlet mall, so there is that. 😂

both colin jost and pete davidson are from s.i., so its been getting a lot of snl publicity lately.

The forces in Cleveland and beyond that fought for the RRHOF to be in Cleveland should be proud to watch this.

^Is that from Oct 30th at the Q?

Yes, what great exposure for Cleveland!

Watched the entire induction ceremony on HBO Max… really good and really impressed.

Full on Piano Bar rocking Tower City right now.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

Yeah he didn't get everything perfect, but he really experienced and captured what Cleveland is ... an underrated, livable city with great architecture, culture, parks, sports, and people.

His videos tend to get a lot of views and attention.

That outlet mall, when first opened, was cute.  Now it's pretty basic BUT the views of the city are spectacular.

Beautiful display at the Rockefeller Park Greenhouse.

This is quite a list to be included in, as most of the hotels are Ritz Carltons and Mandarin Orientals in top global cities, but to top it off our lovely Arcade is the featured photo:

Thanks for sharing, BB.  We are so fortunate to enjoy this magnificent space.   Shudder to think how many other historic buildings were lost to the bulldozer of modernity.

Happy Holidays.

Great to have it included, but Is the Arcade really "the lobby" for the Hyatt?    I'm happy to have stayed in 5 of the hotels on the list, including the Hyatt Cleveland.

Interesting that the tweet is from a few days ago, but the article is from 2019. I’d be curious to see what their current 20 list would be now.

We’re heading into the depths of winter and nothing annoys me more than the ‘Cleveland Grey’ trope. So for handy reference, here’s a useful map to help remind people that we get sunshine equivalent to southern France, Italy, the Med. If you really want to see grey, dark winters, try some time in the north of England where I’m originally from.

I don't notice the clouds, but I do notice the sun, if that makes sense. I like to see the sun but I don't want it on my skin. My Irish-Scottish-Scandanavian skin doesn't react well to sun.

And I recall last March when Cleveland had only two overcast days all month. If that's our climate future, sounds good.

From the New York Times Morning email:

52 Places for 2022

Bike trails to inspire carbon-conscious travelers. A Black district that is once again distinguishing itself as a cultural center. And a lush archipelago that resists overtourism.

These three are among our 52 Places for 2022, an annual Times feature on great travel destinations. This year’s list highlights places where positive change is happening, whether environmental or cultural, and travelers can be part of it.

But worthy doesn’t mean tedious. The vistas of Iberá Park in Argentina are stunning, even if you don’t know that the park’s grasslands are crucial to saving the strange-tailed tyrant birds. And the braised artichokes and Burgundy snails served at EDWINS in Cleveland are as much about gastronomy as they are about teaching former prisoners a new trade. See all 52 Places. — Natasha Frost, a Briefings writer

i was reading about james webb telescope tonight and saw this about the mirrors --

probably should have guessed as soon as i read they were made of beryllium:

The beryllium to make Webb's mirror was mined in Utah and purified at Brush Wellman in Ohio. The particular type of beryllium used in the Webb mirrors is called O-30 and is a fine powder. The powder was placed into a stainless steel canister and pressed into a flat shape. Once the steel canister was removed, the resulting chunk of beryllium was cut in half to make two mirror blanks about 1.3 meters (4 feet) across. Each mirror blank was used to make one mirror segment; the full mirror is made from 18 hexagonal segments.

I finally got a place for my Hearne Brothers map! But could someone help me place the year? Most of the interstates are on it, but 490 isn’t complete yet. AND THERE WAS A LAKE AT CLARK FIELDS????

Take a zoomed in photo of Downtown from the river to the innerbelt and post it here - certain street changes there will give further clues to the date.

As I said on Twitter, I think it's 1976. It references Conrail which didn't start operations until April 1, 1976.

Some good humor in the thread. My favorite was everyone is afraid of Euclid but he's actually a sweetheart. Lol, kinda accurate.

The NEORSD (CLE sewer district) Twitter account is a national treasure

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

I didn't know where to put this so...my nephew, a college senior, just received a job offer from a company know as Cleveland Research Co.  I had never heard of them so I checked out their website.  It starts with a really cool drone shot of downtown Cleveland.  It is centered on One Cleveland Center, its headquarters, but takes in a good portion of downtown from a unique point of view.  Check it out.  It is about 2 years old as Beacon was still under construction.  I kept imagining the shot with the SHW tower.  By the way, it appears to be a pretty young company, maybe 15 years old, but it appears to have a national rep with many large corporate clients.  I liked the fact that when they decided to start up a company that was going to try to attract large clients from across the country that they decided to name the company after Cleveland.

Actually, even the inner harbor bridge is looking quite handsome here!

Oh sure. They're heavy hitters in the pharma world.

That bridge still looks clunky to me but in the grand scheme of things it's small potatoes. So much development going on now around town l'm not even thinking about that little piece of crap.

Interesting quote from the link above: "This is an ironic bridge, for an ironic city, on an ironic harbor, said NOACA Executive Director Grace Galucci whose organization helped provide some of the funding."

Always good to read a booster article now and again.

Wasn’t Forbes the magazine that consistently put Cleveland down for years? I haven’t read the article, but I find the title a bit ironic.

Yeah haha their track record is to follow up anything good with a clickbait "worst city" list.

Why doesn't Cleveland get the love....

The irony!

^ i'd like to write an article for some outlet titled, 'malcolm is long dead in his grave, so why doesn't forbes just freakin fold already and go away?'

So glad he decided not to run for the 47th time. What is the expiration date on an old mayor anyway?
