Was anyone here in a fraternity (or for the few women on here, a sorority), while in college?

Me!  Phi Sigma Rho @ Case.

Frats!  ugh

Nope. My college shunned the greek culture (Kenyon).

I was in the marching band! That's like a fraternity, right??

I was in a sorority at Clemson:  Kappa Alpha Theta

SigEp! SigEp! SigEp!

(oddly enough I was kicked out).

Wait!  You got kicked out....why?  I'm settling in for this tale.

Can't be fun anymore now that hazing is outlawed!

Any idea how much a methyl salicylate covered marshmallow burns?

Frats do exist, but are not as much of the culture of the school as in other schools. There is one sorority, no greek housing, etc.

I'm in the marching band Fraternity... Kappa Kappa Psi... and I'm the current chapter president...

They have satellite houses/cabins in the woods for parties.

But you build a mean pyramid in record time :)

Hey now.....

AND, at least Ohio Sigma can build a mean pyramid in record time :)

SigEp here too. Our whole frat almost got kicked off campus the year I lived in the house. We spent much of our time on probation until recently when we obtained highest GPA on campus. It's amazing how much a frat can change in just three or four years. Once you start admitting more nerds, things change quickly (and for the better). We also began adding things from Balanced Man, and that had some effect as well even though we were a traditional fraternity.

Ugh.. BMP is evil.. stay traditional.

the only events I did were chug, chug and chug.

Wow Pope, I'm growing to like you more and more after each of your posts on this thread.

Yeah, I was somewhat a frasshole for a good two years. You could frequently see me at the Crystal during that time. I was active for four, but only intensively involved for two.

Understatement of the year.

I'm still a frasshole.

No?  You?

Yes MTS, sorry to break it to you.. I was the guy who wouldn't let you into parties in college..

Then you're REALLY old!  Trust me in college, I wasn't going to parties, I was studying!  The majority of the time, when I did want go to a real party, I came back home to Cleveland.

The Crystal.  Good times.  If you were a sigep then I assume you were a CI fan as well.  What year did you graduate as I had some sigep friends.  I was a delt.

You sound like you were really cool in college..

No, I wasn't.  I didn't care what other people thought, I was in college to get an education, not party.  I got a full ride and I wasn't about to f*ck that up!

For some reason I expected this thread to be parented by CDawg.

Believe it or not this is actually a rather appropriate thread given Ohios historic roll in the US "greek system"...Miami, I think, was the birthplace of a few frats?

Sounds familiar.  Though for me it was no big deal since I was and am pretty much a loner anyway.

Yes, most notably the Miami Triad: Sigma Chi, Beta Theta Pi and Phi Delta Theta

I would have been a "loner", but it's kind of hard to do that when 11 of your cousins attend the same school as you do, at the same time.

I helped found the Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Epsilon back in my Junior year, but then it fell through sadly.

I'm not in one. Most of the guys in my old dorm joined them and turned into alcoholics and drug addicts. I feel like I would get too distracted if I was in a frat at a state school. My best friend at NU is in one and it's really laid back, they barely ever throw parties. If I went to a school like that I would definitely be down for being in a frat but I get distracted too easily when I'm constantly around that atmosphere at a state school. It was hard enough, being in a dorm.

I knew some peeps like that.  I really didn't need a frat, my family alone we could have started a frat and a soro.

No dis to anyone but folks in frat, to me, seemed to be looking for something that their family didn't give them.

I completely disagree with that, my family is VERY close knit, I have 8 cousins in the 22-32 range and we all are from Solon.. a fraternity is VERY hard to understand unless you are a part of one.

8?  Oh kiddo, thats kid stuff, try having 32 cousins, ranging from 8 to 44.

So....lon  LOL.

Frats, in the 80s, are a very different than what they are today.  I didn't want to understand then, although I do love a good step show, and I could care less now.
