June 27, 200816 yr ^Thank you. Go somewhere else where you actually have a clue what you are talking about. C-Dawg...don't try it. I could buy you, at pawn shop prices (which is still too much) upgrade you, market you, pimp you out, then dismiss you, by selling you, as the over blown know it all you think you are! I'm not the one to play with....
June 27, 200816 yr OU is right up there with them, and yes, we earn our degrees. BTW, the "earn" wasn't meant as a crack about OU, but about how tough the Architecture and Engineering majors were at SU. The "Farm" thing...now THAT was a crack about OU :-)
June 27, 200816 yr We had to wear pledge caps like Flounder! God forbid you were caught on campus without it. The most difficult was the "food runs" from Clifton/Stratford to the High Rise Deli for late night snacks. Long walk carrying 16oz glass bottles of Coke.
June 27, 200816 yr Let's get it back on topic. I wasn't in a frat, but my three roommates were in the Beta class for KDR at SU. I didn't join, but since I lived with three brothers I was like the moochy brother that didn't pay dues but got the upside of going to the parties, etc. Anyway, since it was new, it blew apart alot of the preconceived notions that people have about fraternities. A lot of the founding brothers were in the Architecture school, so some people thought it was the Architecture fraternity. In actuality, it was one of the most diverse houses on campus, from a racial, socio-economic and personality standpoint. Really a cool bunch of guys.
June 27, 200816 yr I miss calling the house phone every hour, on the hour for a few days. (re pledge-week)
June 27, 200816 yr I was living in Calhoun and had a pledge on my floor. He was responsible for getting my bowling ball to Tangeman for my bowling class! He didn't want to take it with him to bio and chem class in Zimmer and A4, so he would walk back to calhoun between classes to get it! He finally gave up and just took it with him in the morning!!
June 27, 200816 yr ^I got an A in bowling the same quarter I failed my only class in college, Japanese Art History. The professor was white and grew up in Japan...he was 85 and somehow in those 85 years never figured out native-born American college students don't know how to read and speak Japanese, don't have comprehensive knowledge of Japan's geography, history, and religions. There was no book and the grad students kept checking out all the materials from the library...at about week 9 I said f! it and quit going.
July 10, 200816 yr This time at OU I moved into an apartment and in the storage room were two composite photos of a Fraternity and Sorority from 1998. I thought about tracking down their owners but instead just used them for decoration. At the end of my lease I told my friend about them and we threw them in the back of his truck... Well I was going through old negatives and forgot that I had actually photographed these things: So nobody doubt my stories ever again. I don't need to make stuff up!
May 17, 20178 yr Nothing like a near 9-year bump, right? http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/15/us/penn-state-fraternity-piazza-family-interview/ A 19-year old died in early February following his first night as a pledge at a Penn State fraternity. He was going through a ritual called "the gauntlet" and evidently fell multiple times during the night, including down a 15-foot flight of stairs. No one bothered to call 911 until nearly 12 hours later the next morning. The timeline read is absolutely sickening. Nearly 1,000 charges have now been filed related to Timothy Piazza's death, including against 18 of the fraternity brothers who were there that night as well as the fraternity chapter itself. No one from Penn State or the fraternity attended his funeral or wake. The family is now advocating for wholesale changes to policies and procedures among Greek Life and universities across the country in regards to underage drinking, binge drinking, etc. Very Stable Genius
