These are some pictures I took of the less know part of Detroit Shoreway last summer.  The area is around W65th and Lorain.  I originally posted this thread in the summer but am redoing it since I lost some of the photos.

Although the photos do not show there are actually at least 10 antique stores within 5 blocks of 65th and Lorain.  Some of the stores are in very good shape and others are run down.  I wish more people knew about this great Cleveland asset.

Ok I have been searching for Eco Village for a long time.  Its has been like an El Dorado to me.  The first time I came I found these row houses but could not find any more.  I thought I must have missed something.

 

After seeing this picture I think I figured out the puzzle.  The proposed buildings never were built.  Please if someone has better info. about this project let me know.

 

I did really like the Rapid station.

Cool!  This is kind of the forgotten part of DS with all the attention these days on Detroit.

 

I think you pretty much found all of EcoVillage- that (rather nice, I think) row of green townhouses and the new rapid stop. I think there are some infill houses in the works too, but don't know of any multi fam or commercial stuff on tap.  Hopefully the area around the rapid stop (including the big empty lot between it and Lorain) will fill in.  So much potential there.

Interesting shots... I'm glad the focus was on this, the 'underside' of Detroit-Superior, as opposed to the trendy-upcoming Gordon Square district along Detroit and Battery Park & the newer townhouses along the Lake... Even though, as the photos note, Cleveland touts Lorain as "Antique Row" the fact is, this southern part of D-S is still very seedy and rundown with a lot of shady characters and boarded up storefronts.  Aside from the scenic church shown, the rebuild W. 65th Rapid stop and the lonely strip of Eco Village, this D-S section appears still stuck in a downward swirl. 

 

The hope of TOD around Rapid stop, aside from EcoV, hasn't materialized at all; don't know how much blame should be on the city or RTA (but that's a TOD discussion).

 

EcoVillage isn't dead, but it has stalled.  I do know that Detroit Shoreway Community Development was recently hiring for a new project manager.  My guess is that they are striking while the iron is hot with everything happening up at Gordon Square and closer to the lake, but I don't have the inside scoop.

Basically between West 65th and a couple blocks east of that on Lorain and a couple blocks to the North along West 65th.  Also the row houses were located on around east 58th street I believe.
