Posted June 23, 200816 yr Saturday June 21, 2008 was All Aboard Ohio's annual meeting, and Cincinnati was the location. So I set my sports car's cruise control for 80 mph and arrived after a 3-hour, 30-minute sprint down I-71 (don't try this at home, kids). The first part of the meeting was a tour of Cincinnati Union Terminal. It's one of the nation's finest stations still standing, and an art deco masterpiece, inside and out. Here's a picture of a picture of CUT from decades ago (the large photo was at the bottom of the steps of Tower A, which we'll see in a little while)... Looking down from the stratosphere, here's CUT and environs circa 1930s.... Our tour started with the renovated executive offices of CUT, including the CEO's office.... Told ya it was art deco inside and out.... Much of the woodwork was damaged. It's about 90 percent restored, thanks to the Cincinnati Railroad Club.... On to the board room.... Getting artsy fartsy... CUT's lofty rotunda.... The photos don't do the massiveness nor the colors justice.... And, yes, CUT is still a working railroad station. This is the Amtrak station, served by the Cardinal route between Chicago, Indianapolis, Charleston WV, White Sulphur Springs WV, Washington DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City and many other cities and towns in between..... Atop and behind CUT is Tower A, the former switching control station for CUT and its approach trackage, yards etc. It's now the home of the Cincinnati Railroad Club, which is sometimes open to the public (along with its gift shop).... Views of the sprawling and very busy Queensgate Yard (used by NS, CSX and RailAmerica).... We then took Metro's #1 bus from CUT to Fountain Square. Our meeting room in the Westin overlooked the square.... We then caught the #1 bus back to CUT to get our cars. I tried my hand at a couple skyline shots from the front porch of CUT, before I hopped in my car and zipped back up I-71 for Cleveland... Until next time, Cincinnati! June 23, 200816 yr Great shots! I certainly hope that any future rail projects for the state include this place. Pictures really do it no justice! I find myself staring off into space everytime I go there. June 23, 200816 yr This was my first visit to the Union Terminal and my first All Aboard Ohio meeting, both were very impressive! and the view of downtown from the steps of the Union Terminal blew me away :clap:

June 24, 200816 yr Anyone know the date of the photo? Is that the Kroger Bldg under construction? Sure was one ugly building until the remodel. Anyone have any photos? I think that was completed in the late 50's. Also looks like the Mill Creek Expy is in the picture also.

June 26, 200816 yr I have done this exact tour. They do this tour for free on weekends for the public. I have also seen that photo by the steps that you mentioned. Just show up at the clock easel to the left of the ticket counter.
