Posted June 23, 200816 yr Just some pics taken from last weeks game at progressive field, which was packed considering it was the padres.
June 23, 200816 yr Lol I was tempted to put it as Jacobs Field, but I guess its time to move on :( Believe me I do not like it either, but the Q has finally caught up with peeps and this will too unfortunately.
June 23, 200816 yr nice pics! Jacobs/Progressive has always had some of the best city sight lines of any MLB field....pittsburgh/detroit/cincy/baltimore aren't too shabby either
June 23, 200816 yr Great photo's with some really interesting views. the city seems so dense when photographaed North to South (vice verse). The shots up East Ninth and the shots of playhouse Square are awesome.
June 24, 200816 yr Haha another thing i noticed when looking at the pictures is apparently the left field bleachers are now called the "time warner cable bleachers"
June 24, 200816 yr Again, it wasn't truly a vote. Fans in every city were asked to rate their own ballparks. Cleveland fans voted more often for amenities at the Jake than other fans did for their own ball parks.
June 24, 200816 yr I'm still shocked by how empty the sidewalks are other than when people get out of the game.
June 24, 200816 yr I'm still shocked by how empty the sidewalks are other than when people get out of the game. You saw one side of the building and you equate that to "empty"? You can't analyze the entire area based on a few pictures over a long period of time.
June 24, 200816 yr You can't analyze the entire area based on a few pictures over a long period of time. Then how do I analyze the area?
June 24, 200816 yr Nice shots. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
June 24, 200816 yr Nice photos. I always liked the canyon effect looking up East 9th. That's exactly what the Cleveland Press wanted when it started its campaign in the 1950s to develop and densify the street as a business corridor. June 24, 200816 yr You can't analyze the entire area based on a few pictures over a long period of time. Then how do I analyze the area? Did you see Ontario, Huron, Bolivar, or Prospect over the same periods of time? If not, how can you make a statement about the status of the streets? Seriously?

I would love to see pics of those streets and have you disprove my point.
June 24, 200816 yr People do realize that the baseball stadium's previous name was that of a real estate conglomerate with a national portfolio, right? I mean, it's not like some Mom and Pop shop decided to build the joint  Great photos, Ctown - nice to see some different angles there. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
June 24, 200816 yr Regarding the streets and people, I stepped outside a few times and there was a fair amount of people walking around throughout the evening. I should have snapped some pics though of East 4th street and the Warehouse District which we went through after. You could barely even walk in those areas and people were still coming in, which was a little after midnight since the game went into extra innings. It was truly packed everywhere we went after the game, I kinda wish it wasn't so crowded though because we couldn't get in a few places especially some of the bars around the area like paninis, Clevelander, and Winking Lizard. BTW East 4th really looks amazing now and has been really packed the last few weeks, it is a really nice vibe down there now and a nice little alternative to the warehouse district.
June 24, 200816 yr Thank you Ctownrocks1. I would love to see pics of those streets and have you disprove my point.
June 24, 200816 yr Nice job! Obviously at midnight streets like Superior/E. 9th/Euclid are not going to be packed. Streets in the warehouse district, E 4th will have foot traffic because there are businesses that are open then. Why would one expect to see people out and about in a financial district that has few other businesses and is closed for the day? If there was open businesses and there was no people then yes that would be shocking.

June 24, 200816 yr "Again, it wasn't truly a vote. Fans in every city were asked to rate their own ballparks. Cleveland fans voted more often for amenities at the Jake than other fans did for their own ball parks. " Good enough for me.
June 24, 200816 yr Yeah, I think most people assumed that, but there are classy corporate names and then trashy corporate names. Jacobs did have a classier ring too it. I don't like the name change, but how is it not classy? Progressive Field? Hell.. it could be a name given by the city to describe the city's views.. I mean we could have such classy names as the orange juice bunch (Minute Maid Park & Tropicana Field) or the cell service duo (US Cellular Field or AT&T Park). We should be happy that we have the nicest stadium in baseball (not referencing that stupid survey, just a common known fact).
June 24, 200816 yr Yes, it is by far the nicest, even if you discount the lack of "retro" brick facade!!!!!

Honestly, I didn't mean for my one comment to get people so riled up. It was more out of a place of wanting to see downtown become more of a 24 hour kinda area, not just in little "entertainment districts". I was disappointed that it wasn't reflected in those photos. I didn't mean to take things so off-topic. If i knew it would have I (probably) would've kept my mouth shut.
June 24, 200816 yr I was sitting right underneath you.... err.... section 117 ;). By the way, for those who weren't there, they gave out little bags of chips to people when they were exiting the stadium.... If for some reason someone didn't know how to get back to Tower City, all they had to do was follow the trashcans overflowing with empty chip bags!
June 24, 200816 yr It is okay JPop-Tart (borrowed from MTS). I'm not in the least bit riled up, just stating facts. :-)
June 24, 200816 yr It is okay JPop-Tart (borrowed from MTS). I like it, but don't think I haven't heard it before. ;)
June 24, 200816 yr I was at that game! Nice pics! It was my fiances first Cleveland experience, and she now loves it too!
June 24, 200816 yr I've been to at least 20 ballparks and can definitely say that nothing beats Jacobs Field. It is beautiful, clean for an outsdoor stadium, has a fantastic scoreboard, and isn't too big. Wrigley Field is probably the most fun ballpark due to its many charms, constant near sellouts, great fans, the IVY, and of course the outside Addison nightlife, but the Jake is still the best actual, physical ballpark. Plus the fans are very nice and won't vilify you for wearing other teams' apparell (as opposed to in New York and Boston, where I've had a few run-ins with "fans" for wearing my 1995 World Series sweatjacket). And yes, from now on I will only refer to our stadium as Jacobs Field or the Jake. That's what I grew up with, and that's how I'll refer to it.
June 24, 200816 yr That's fine, I'll keep posting from the Bond Court Office building, and after I'm done at work, I'll go home to Pelton Park, relax on the davenport after a long night of drinking at the saloon. :-P clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
