Greetings, UO friends.

I rode my bike from Old Brooklyn to Independence Road in Newburgh Heights and trekked through the bowels of ArchelorMittal.  Afterwards, I popped out over by the main post office and headed to Voinovich Park.

I consider this to be Industrial Bike Tour III (Part I and Part II).

And as with all of my photos, if you want access to full-size photos, just drop me a PM and I'll gladly share the link.  Enjoy!

Most seagulls I've ever seen.  The photo doesn't do justice when it comes to how many of them were there.

As w28th (I think) eluded in ajknee's visiting Cleveland thread, Independence is one bad-@ss ride.

Awesome pictures.

nice. that is such an interesting ride. Lets hope they clean up operations and make it a role model for cleaner steel production. I do take that route south sometimes on the scooter. I made the mistake of taking the scooter through there the day is 97 degrees. my guess it was 110 down there. Hell on earth. If anyone wants to bike the route go early or late in the day

According to the Flats Oxbow Association, the Mittal Steel plant in Cleveland is one of the most productive plants in North America,  due in large part to the proximity to the lake and the river (just to add my two cents:)

Great pics!!  I love the first photo shot through the fence with the dramatic sunset!!

Nice!

I'm normally not a fan of industrial photos but yours turned out great.

Cool!

Wow, a part of Cleveland that many of us have never seen up close.

I can't believe that you actually put this picture up!  I know the bridge where this was taken and I have always thought that Cleveland never looked better than from that bridge at sunset.  This is by far the best view in the whole city IMO.

excellent. interesting angles that i imagine are are rarely seen by people in person.

That view is from Jennings Road over I-176.  There's also some great views as you descend down the Jennings hill just south of Old Harvard Road.  Just one of the perks of living over there.

Cleveland Pride, are you from Old Brooklyn as well?

I grew up one street over from Harmody park.  I used to drive over that bridge all the time and admire the view.  It's pretty nice going down the hill, but the view from that bridge is simply breathtaking at sunset.

Wonderful photos. I love industrial scenery. I often go down Independence Avenue to enjoy a setting that used to be more common in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Great views of a Cleveland the tourists never see. The heavy-industry landscape can be very dramatic.

  • 2 weeks later...

I love all the random pipes around independence, just running to and fro, along roads, up and over roads.

I always want to spend time down there at sunset/night taking pictures, but I get afraid of 1) Industrial Security and 2) the RR gestapo.

heavy industry is awesome
